I wonder if Mega Man would still be the first Capcom character if Smash only started doing guest characters now and took a “guests with a connection to Nintendo approach”
Like Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil are more successful and pushed way harder than Mega Man now (especially because NES nostalgia isn’t as common as in 2014) and they can all be argued to have strong Nintendo connections. They all have equal or more connections to other consoles though at the same time.
