If there was any point in time I would like to relive all over again, it would be January 2006 and onwards. Mainly to fix the egregious mistakes I made when I was younger, but also to add things to my life that I originally missed out on.

The mid-2000’s in general are the decade I feel the most nostalgic for, and I wish I could live through them all over again.

I’ve drafted up some DLC ideas for Mario Kart World, with the idea being to make them feel like an added part of the game’s world.

You know what? All things considered, I’m still pretty damn excited for what the Switch 2 is doing, and I don’t want my judgement to be clouded by what it’s not. I just wish the prices weren’t so ludicrous.

Since we’re pretty much guaranteed to see Mario Kart in tomorrow’s Direct, here’s a last-minute idea for a gameplay mechanic I’d like to see:

Whenever you hit an item box, you can hold up to three times at once (Attack, Defense, and Boost, respectively). The three item slots appear at the top left corner of the screen.
- L/R: Select item
- ZL: Use item
- And ZR is still used for drifting
Coins not only slightly increase your top speed, but also contribute to Frenzies and Special Items
- Yellow Coins fill up a Frenzy meter under your item slots, which fills instantly when you grab a mysterious glowing object. Frenzies allow you to use items to your heart’s content, but unlike Frenzies in Tour, this time you’re not invincible in a Frenzy.
- Red Coins fill up a circular gauge at the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you’ve collected eight Red Coins, you are given a context-specific Special Item.
- Sometimes, a Coin of either color will appear in one of your item slots when you pick up an item box. Like in Tour, your character automatically picks up that Coin.

What do you guys think of my idea for a 3D Mario built around mouse controls?

Super Mario Canvas

A 3D platformer where Mario uses mouse controls to use the environment around him as his canvas (like drawing a temporary platform, for example). King Watinga is the main villain, using other robotic bugs as his army. A mode based on Mario Paint for SNES also appears as a side mode.

You guys know how the Topis from Ice Climber were originally seals in the Japanese version, but were changed to yeti-like creatures out of concerns of seal clubbing? If Ice Climbers ever got a reboot of some sort, I think the seals should be a collectible that you rescue in each level, kind of like Waddle Dees in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

I just thought of something: Sm4sh ended with 58 fighters after DLC, and Ultimate launched with 76 fighters (including Echoes) before DLC. Therefore, I think a reasonable balance for the next game would be to launch with about 67 fighters.

I’ve been thinking about Hayashi’s “Japanese hamburger” analogy in regards to Ninja Gaiden 3 when talking about a Japanese-born game franchise trying to appeal to the West.

And honestly…I think that sort of analogy can apply towards Smash speculation, too. With how USA-centric most of the speculation scene is, it says to me that a lot of Smash fans only want the series to be nothing but a Japanese hamburger instead of letting Sakurai and Nintendo cook their own meals.

Pro tip for anyone with a Switch and NSO: turn on your phone’s hot spot mode if you want to play online while you’re out and about. I tried it for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe earlier today during a walk in the nearby park and it worked surprisingly well.
