Genuinely, how far should a game take to "get good?"
For a platformer, it shouldn't take any more than five minutes to plop you in a level and teach you the central mechanics. Fighting games can take maybe ten or twenty until you get most of the moves and mechanics. Rhythm games should just be however long it takes for you to pick a song. In any genre it should only take twenty minutes at most.
Except for RPG's. Sure, the best ones start with a bang (like FFVII or Remake), but I feel like most of them take about an hour for the meat of the story to begin, which is reasonable since there's often way more worldbuilding and exposition that needs to happen in those games. Regardless it should only be an hour at most, and anything over is asking a lot.
