I don't like the "subverted kids' show trope", but I really like Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared - mostly because the gruesome imagery isn't really the scary part, as much as the implications of the lyrics and characters - and the grizzly scenes are moreso just a prompt to get the viewer to rewatch those earlier scenes from an adult lens. I think watching #3 as a 12 year old was the first time I ever recognised an allegory.
