I tend to have a different mentality between making fighting game rosters and kart racers rosters - when doing fighting games, it has to be moveset potential and uniqueness getting top priority with popularity being a considerable factor that could make or break but rarely does, but in kart racers where characters are mostly cosmetic you have to get in everyone's favourites and justify obscure picks by choosing ones who work just as well as character designs in a vacuum as they do as full characters.
