I kinda worry that if Frontiers flops, it will hurt the overall 3D platforming genre instead of just Sonic's brand. This is the big show for open world platformers after the Switch-exclusive bundle-tethered mini-game Bowser's Fury, and in a gaming climate where open world is the new big trend and considered by some the "objective way forward", it will likely represent platforming as a whole for a lot of more modern-minded players.
