Huge yes. Too bad the award owner is absolute trash.
I still don't get why Sakurai chose Modern Sonic over Classic - the design is the least of Smash Sonic's problems, but still questionable.

Because he was added in the 2000s Back in Brawl. During those days, there was no "Classic" or "Modern" Sonic, just Sonic. The Sonic Gems Collection for the Gamecube featured "Classic" Sonic games but had "Modern" Sonic in the Cover Art, because that was the design they were using. It wasn't until Generations in 2011 when they started reusing Sonic's Classic Design in Major Products.

Although i would say that if Sonic was introduced in Smash Ultimate instead of Brawl, they could (and maybe even would) have choosen Classic instead since by that point it was just as valid as using the Dreamcast look.

Yeah, I do remember reading an interview where Sakurai said he considered using the classic design, I can see why he went with Modern (the lack of disambiguation at the time made it so people didn't associate Modern with 06, Heroes, Shadow or anything like that), but if he were introduced in 3DS or Ultimate, they may (but not absolutely) have gone with Classic either for positive brand recognition, the association with gaming history/Mega Drive or just out of preference.

Not exactly sure if this qualifies as a take but regardless...
I think the modern design is the best interpretation of Sonic we've had. As revered as the classic design is, I find it awfully derivative and clearly just shows that this character was made to combat Mario in marketing.
The modern design gives Sonic more of an identity, his longer legs emphasizes his movement, the curvature in his face gives him a cockier default expression, the leaner figure overall to distinguish him from slower platform mascots. It gives him more of an identity overall, rather than simply being a contrarian to the norm.
I do think this primarily applies to the Adventure titles though; those games weren't the best but they encapsulated Sonic's spirit to a T. The dumbass soap shoes, the weird shiny textures; wonderful, wonderful.
Personal opinion aside, while choosing the Classic design wouldn't detriment Sonic, choosing the Modern design wasn't absurd by any stretch of the imagination.
Dr. Baby Wario, despite being a baby clone, is a good sign for future Mario spin off rosters, because it means Nintendo are now willing to dig up obscure characters.

It's mostly because the mobile departments finally ran out of ideas and decided to actually take the effort to search things.

Y'know, I wonder if Baby Wario was chosen in response to the huge amount of bootleg plushies in his likeness, like Street Fighter Turbo, just with competitive balancing swapped for ugly babies.
I wonder if people outside the UK know how hugely popular the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amiga were and still are over here... like, we had C64 games on the Wii VC over here.

I've heard of the last two, never heard of the ZX Spectrum. Besides, I thought they all failed or whatever?

black being capitalised is a pet peeve of mine, I get why it's done, but that doesn't stop it from making professional essays look like something written by a 10 year old, especially when white isn't capitalised.
SSBU matchmaking is great, but visible GSP and Elite Smash are not - they've turned SSBU online into a **** measuring contest, where people will cheat just for bragging rights, only to be bodied seconds later
"When did superheroes become so political?"

Yeah, because "truth, justice and the American way" is such an apolitical phrase.
I don't blindly hate IGN like a lot of people, but a word of advice: don't expect reviewers and journalists mostly versed in modern games to give good insight into games from quote-unquote "dead genres" - They're here to review the games with latest tech, not indie throwbacks or retro remakes.

9.3 was much more than Sword and Shield deserved and 7.8 is too little for a game like ORAS.
I can't believe ALF is hosting the Summer Games Fest, that is the sort of thing I'd make up while sober-but-pretending-to-be-drunk-despite-the-fact-I-openly-oppose-alcohol-consumption
Wario is depicted so inconsistently that your perception of him depends on the games you played and where you lived growing up. I personally love how he's portrayed in the Ware games, a slobby jerk who loves money, but has a well hidden soft side - of course I can see why people prefer Wario as a muscular anti-heroic chad, but I generally gravitate towards the weirder types.

I feel like DK has something similar going on with him. A lot of Nintendo fans who grew up with DKC and the TV series see him a likeable good-guy, but the majority of people who are just familiar with the classic arcade game see him as a big mean ape.

Yeah I know that "DK" went on to be Cranky but 1) most people don't know that and 2) DK lore is a mess anyway.

If you grew with Mario games in the 2000s, then you probably see DK as a dumb, goofy, cartoon gorilla, as that's how Mario spin-offs at the time tended to portray him.
One thing that irrationally annoys me is the use of love hearts in character designs, especially female. it's like shouting from the rooftops "THIS CHARACTER IS CUTE" instead of actually putting effort into making them cute.

It can also make people uglier. Slap it on an ugly person and they look even uglier. That's something I've seen a few times.

My Switch has a super weird problem - the left joycon works on the BIOS but not on the games EXCLUSIVELY when connected to the console, but the capture button works in both modes.
SiIvaGunner's doing a charity event where they make on-tune Space Jam mashups for 24 hours. Let's SLAM racism harder than the MonStars!
Is buying a PS4 a good idea right now/soon? I really want to play It's About Time and, to a much lesser extent, the first Spider-Man, and PS4s will probably be pretty cheap now the 5 is coming out.

In a word: yes. My rule of thumb is, buy a console once it has enough games that are worth your interest.

Try to get a Pro model, if possible, for enhancing some games.
The Bugsnax trailer gives me EarthBound vibes - silly and cute for the most part, but with dark undertones that aren't the focus (so not the pure horror game everyone thinks it'll be, but not 100% cutesy kiddie fare either). I've heard Octodad had a similar vibe
Pizza Tower is one of my most hyped upcoming games, mostly because you don't really see the "ugly cartoon" art style in games at all, especially now the leaked Crash merch is taking on a slightly cuter approach.
I feel the Snap/SwSh comparison is really unfair. If you look at Game Freak's pre-Lets Go 3D games, you'll find most are handheld or 2.5D - Bandai Namco on the other hand are some of the biggest in the business when it comes to graphics
There's a YouTube channel devoted to Disney Infinity that still posts frequently, and it's honestly kinda sad seeing them gasp at straws for content, it feels almost hopeless in a way.
FP2 theory: FP1 had rather dark branding, with mostly blacks and some golds - FP2 has the reverse, a lot of gold and some blacks, making a brighter appearance. FP1 was mostly anime-esque characters with a single funny animal thrown in, therefore it's possible FP2 has a focus on more light hearted and cartoon-esque characters with one or two anime-esque characters thrown in there.
One thing that always annoys me in games is when a series starts being good after years of bad or controversial games, but completely ignores characters introduced in the bad games (with the exception of Sonic Mania, but I honestly consider classic and modern separate entities, and while bad classic games exist, none of them really introduced many characters to the franchise - at least depending on your opinions on CD and Chaotix.)

sometimes the best thing after a series of bad games is to just reboot and forget those games existed. when characters originate from a time in a series that was full of bad games, the last thing people will want is to be reminded of that time through those characters, plus in most cases I can think of those characters that originated during that period are bad and deserve to be forgotten.

The Crash Bandicoot series looks like it may be in a litmus test in regards to this: Nitro-Fueled brings back the majority of characters from a time that was filled with controversial entries, in a game that's genuinely beloved. So it does seem like they may put these characters in a rebooted context in the future.
I'm old enough to remember when Mona was the most popular WarioWare character, now she seems almost like the least popular of the WW cast (and TBH I fully understand why - she's pretty basic.)
