One of my favourite tropes is when a comedy cartoon suddenly hits you with an emotional gut punch - usually happens in finales; feature length movies; or Christmas specials.
It's strangely comforting to think that these characters who are pretty much just there to make you laugh can also experience hardship and struggles off-screen. Shows that we're all human with weaknesses, even those of us who can survive having a car dropped on their head.
