Maybe I'm wrong on this one, but I think an Echo Fighter is supposed to be from the same series as the character they're using (almost) the same moves as.
A semi-clone, on the other hand, could be from a different series, even though they have moves that are similar to another character's moves (e.g. Captain Falcon and Ganondorf, at least during Melee)
You know what the next Smash game needs? Online Training, so that players can help each other improve, in case there were any specific characters they needed help getting better at using.
I guess I could try and main Simon and Richter. They both seem pretty easy (but also pretty hard) to use, but hard to master.

I think Nintendo should make successors to some of their NES and SNES games, like Pro Wrestling and Joy Mech Fight.
I might have to watch Sisu.

Oh, and, if possible, they could also add spirits and music from Snatcher and Policenauts, including One Night in Neo Kobe City, Pleasure of Tension, Twilight of Neo Kobe City, End of the Dark, and Old L.A. 2040.

Sometimes I wonder how many 5th-gen and 6th-gen video games used the same sample libraries for their soundtracks...
Imagine if we got a remaster/remake of Bishi Bashi Special 1 & 2 (Bishi Bashi Champ, Super Bishi Bashi Champ, Handle Champ, Hyper Bishi Bashi Champ, and Gachaga Champ) for Switch or Nintendo’s next console with both offline and online multiplayer…
And eventually other consoles and PC via Steam, with cross-play.
Actually, this is me with fighting games in general...
If Solid Snake makes it into the next Smash game, I'm hoping they'll add Big Boss (Naked Snake) as his Echo Fighter. Except, both of their movesets would be slightly different, kinda like Ryu and Ken. Solid Snake uses most of his moves from MGS1 and MGS2, while Big Boss would use most of his moves from MGS3, MPO, MGSPW, and maybe even MGSV.
Also, if Big Boss got his own stage, it'd probably be Mother Base from either Peace Walker or The Phantom Pain, and it'd have to include more music from MGS3, MPO, and MGSPW, and maybe some music from MGSV.
It just occurred to me that when it comes to Smash, I still have a character crisis...
You know who would make some good beat 'em up representation for Smash? Either Kunio (Kunio-kun/River City), with Riki as an Echo Fighter, or Billy (Double Dragon), with Jimmy as an Echo Fighter.
If the Dragonborn from Skyrim ever gets into Smash as a Bethesda rep (possibly after Doomguy), they should include music from Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.
You know which four characters would make good some Metroidvania representation for Smash? Shantae, Shovel Knight, Juan (Guacamelee), and The Knight (Hollow Knight).
You know who might also make a good SEGA rep for Smash? Joe Musashi from Shinobi.
It might not happen anytime soon, but I'd love it if Tee Lopes and Jun Senoue collaborated and did an arrangement of Egg Reverie Zone.
They could add music from both Virtua Fighter and Yakuza/Like A Dragon, including remixes of Jacky's Theme (Virtua Fighter 1), Ride The Tiger (Akira), Funk Goes On, Baka Mitai, and Judgement ~Shinpan~. They could even include music from other AM2 games (Yes, I know Yakuza/Like A Dragon is made by RGG Studio and not AM2), like Space Harrier, Hang-On, After Burner (although, I suppose there's the Bayonetta version), Super Hang-On, Daytona USA, and maybe even Shenmue.
And maybe Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, Jun Senoue, Shoji Meguro, and Hideki Naganuma.
It'd be pretty unlikely, but what if the next Bandai Namco rep for Smash was Rick Taylor from Splatterhouse?
Was Simon's Quest really that bad?
If we get another SEGA rep for Smash, I’m hoping it’ll either be Akira Yuki (Virtua Fighter) or Kazuma Kiryu (Yakuza/Like A Dragon).

Sometimes I wish I was the main character in a Character Action game.
Again, it'll never happen (I can't stress this enough), but I wish Konami would bring back the Orange and Red Stripes (AKA the Bacon Strips) and the classic Konami jingle and mix it in with their current logo. It could look something like this:
