EDIT to avoid triple posting: Well, I'm officially done playing Rage now I think. With gameplay this tedious, with a "story" this forgettable, with an absolutely baffling lack of an autosave, I finally found a bug. And not just any bug mind you, this was the kind that kept me from continuing on with the level.
Shockingly this bug happened as a result of poor design. I was on my very first escort mission. I cleared the area of bad guys. I opened the path to another portion of said area where next linear hallway would most likely open... once the NPC I was escorting got there. Needless to say, he didn't feel like moving no matter how many explosive crossbow bolts I shot at his feet. As well, after retracing my steps back through the stage in the hopes of leaving the way I came in to see if that would help, I found the path blocked. Oh sure, Rage can always find the time to bar the path to back tracking through it's linear levels, but auto saving? Pfft.
This is mission was also the next one after the first stage I actually liked. The place was called Dead City and it actually had atmosphere. There was creepy noises and music. Mutants (Rage's Feral Ghouls/zombies) would jump out and attack me from random directions. Blood would drip from throbbing, flesh covered walls. And right when I entered the area I heard and felt the foot steps of something... BIG... Later I caught the barest glimpse of something... BIG... as it rounded the corner around a building that was barely bigger than it was... again I catch another glimpse, this time I get enough of a look to notice that I didn't even come up to his *** level... and I was about two stories up... At one point, upon entering a room, a hand the size of a minivan reaches down through a hole in the ceiling. Once I found the rocket launcher I made sure to save and sure enough, I got to fight the creature... and continue on with the level. Which was much more boring now. I was no longer moving slowly due to the tense atmosphere at this point. I had just fell a man roughly the size of the Sears Tower, I'm pretty sure those dudes jumping out from behind blind corners are not going to faze me.
Game News: Who else is stoked that Mass Effect 3's multiplayer will have an effect on getting the best ending!.... Anybody?.... I didn't think so.
