The great thing about the quote is that the sarcasm is still there. I just had to spell it out for the dumb people.

Interesting, this is from codenamerevolution.com

Decoder says Wii will launch on October 2nd
July 25th, 2006

With the latest press release challenging fans to decode the press release to reveal the Wii’s launch date or neglect it as a scam, a decoder mentions the following:

The fourth quarter begins on October 1. Now look at the list. At least one game is released every Monday in the fourth quarter except for the following dates: October 2, November 20 and November 27. November 27 is after Black Friday, so it’s out. November 20 is after the launch of the PS3, so that’s out too. That leaves us with October 2. The Wii will launch on October 2.

Could October 2nd be the release date of the Wii? It is known that Nintendo has release the N64, GCN, DS/Lite systems on a Sunday but is Nintendo changing that tradition? Hopefully Nintendo will make an announcement at next month’s German gaming convention. (thanks wesley)

UPDATE: Here is a crazy theory behind this date I’ve read a few times before on message boards but it basically goes like this: If you take the Wii and ‘convert’ it to Roman Numerals in such a way that it looks like “VVII” you get 552 which means that since two V’s don’t go together you take the sum which becomes 10 (the month) and you leave the 2 on it’s own (the date) which concludes that the Wii launch date is indeed October 2nd.

UPDATE: Gamestop once reported that they had information regarding titles that had a release date on October 2nd.

That last one made me laugh. Nintendo will release a definite release date when they want to the didn't decide on the name because that was the date they were going to release it.

1989? You're right, I didn't, because I would have been three. Was is it compatible with all games, or were games mostly made for it? I also thought it was odd that the add said Summer 1990, these days anything like that is almost never released in the summer.

I would be really interested to see how the Wiimote is used in Spider-Man 3, because I loved the last one (I mean Spider-Man 2, I was a little dissapointed with Ultimate Spider-Man.) Mimicing the motions of shooting webs sounds like a no-brainer, but nothing else comes to mind clearly.

Oh, and I want that Rayman game just because of how some of the things I've read had me cracking up already. And using the Wiimote to make Rayman dance to beat the rabbits sounds like it could be fun.

Yeaaaah... the one that used process of elimination sounds like it could be correct, but I don't know if the method proves the facts. And as for the idea using the Wii's own name, numerology never proved anything.

You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online.
Do they know you guys or what?

The throat cutting thing was about the coolest part in the vid, but it was the only intresting thing I saw. Now that I think about it, this is the first game that simulates throat cutting....kinda makes you think about how Congress will react to more violent future games. I also wonder if I'll be making a lot of stabbing motions towards my TV this year.

Trauma Center for Wii info and Gearbox backs Wii

From IGN

July 26, 2006 - Atlus may have given the honors to its American division to reveal its Wii-based sequel to Trauma Center, but it's only now that we're getting full details on the game. The latest issue of Famitsu has Trauma Center: Second Opinion as its big scoop for the week.

Titled Caduceus Neo in Japan, Second Opinion takes place in the near future and puts players in the role of Kousuke Tsukimori. Things kick off in 2018 as mankind feels the wrath of a mysterious incurable disease called Guilth. The Caduceus organization, which works in the shadows and attempts to eliminate all disease, will of course not stand for this. Tsukimori, a rookie doctor, comes into contact one day with a patient infected with Guilth. It turns out that Tsukimori is the doctor who will lead humanity to a new future.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion is actually a remake of the original rather than a full-blown sequel. To the scenarios of the original, the game adds a new scenario at the end and new characters here and there.

Atlus has made some big changes to Trauma Center with the Wii version. The game has updated character designs, with characters looking more adult than their DS counterparts. The game is also voiced, with famous Japanese voice actors providing the voices for the main characters in the Japanese version.

In terms of gameplay, the title's surgery system is now meant to play more like an action game. Listening to the advice of your nurse, you use the Wii remote to perform precision surgical cuts directly, with the nunchuck used in a few areas as well. This mode of play now has easy, normal and hard difficulty settings. You can also look forward to new types of surgery, including broken bones and heart transplants.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion is being directed by Kanada Daisuke and produced by Hashino Katsura, both of whom long-time Atlus fans should recognize. A Japanese release is set for 2006.

Gearbox Backs Wii
Maker of the acclaimed Brothers in Arms games pledges support for Nintendo's upcoming console.
by Matt Casamassina
July 26, 2006 - It looks like you can add another big-name third party developer to Nintendo's growing roster of Wii contributors. Gearbox Software, best known for the critically acclaimed Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox (the latter of which scored a 9.3 by IGN.com), revealed to IGN that it is signed up for the Big N's new console.

"Gearbox Software is enthusiastically supporting the Wii," said company president Randy Pitchford. The company head had no comment on what Wii projects it could be working on, saying only that, "At this time, we don't have any announcements to make about specific games we may be developing for Wii."
Asked what he thought of Nintendo's new console, Pitchford responded: "I think it's great. I'm very much looking forward to playing."

According to Pitchford, Wii has immediate strengths and weaknesses. "The strengths of the Nintendo Wii include the price, the unique interface, the sure-bet library of games based on the great Nintendo properties and the promise back catalogue of classic games from Nintendo and others that they have partnered with," he said. "The weaknesses of the system include its lower relative power when compared to other next-gen consoles and the unique interface requiring more dedicated focus specifically for the platform (which makes it more difficult to amortize larger AAA budgets across more customers from multiple platforms)."

Gearbox is currently underway with the next installment in the Brothers in Arms series, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. The title has been officially announced for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, an allegedly leaked Ubisoft release calendar that hit the Web several months ago also listed an unnamed Brothers in Arms title for Nintendo Wii. Ubisoft has from the very beginning supported Nintendo's console with exclusive titles, including the first-person shooter Red Steel and the ground-up platformer Rayman Raving Rabbids, both of which will take advantage of Wii's innovative controller.

Obviously a debate for a different thread - well, not so much a debate, since I think everyone here agrees with me: Video games don't encourage violence. An M Rated game is completely mild compared to the R Rated movies that have been coming out for years (same age: 17), not to mention the only "Evidence" for these violence-inducing games are kids in court trying to use it as an excuse. They know **** well what they're doing, and they don't think it's a videogame at all as they continue to pump rounds into their classmates: Videogames aren't that realistic yet. If some ******* news reporter can say that a kid killed someone due to playing a game, I certainly have the right to say that crime rates dropped back in the 80's corrosponding to the release of Doom because of the release of Doom. And while we're at it, the rising world temperatures are directly related to the decline in pirates (Yarhg, pastafarianism). The very most you can say is that maybe, just maybe, a violent videogame could be some sort of distant catalyst to an already mentally unstable (by which I mean completely insane), murderous, and badly parented child who should have been in a mental institution to begin with. Also, as for the GTA "Scandals" and such, video games are rated by ESRB for a **** reason. If you're not 17, don't buy an M rated game, and if you're a parent, don't buy your kid an M rated game unless you think he can handle some sex and violence (which he/she probably can). Anyway, it's not like there's much any of us can do - The people deciding on these issues are all geezers with no connection to reality - The kind that would rather debate gay marriage, flag burning ammendments, impede stem cell research, trample all over freedom of expression, and of course, think that the internet is a series of tubes.

... wow... I must be tired... I don't usually write long, boring rants.

You obviously had somthing to get off your chest. Eh Paranoid_Android? I was hoping someone would take notice that the Wii was getting more 3rd party support with the article above, but you did make some good points there. I still hope im going to be making some stabbing motions at my TV soon. :)

Games are different from movies because you actually get to kill instead of just watch. And now with the Wiimote, it's more life-like that ever! :)

Wii have an enemy - Emulation

It’s common knowledge that the mysterious Nintendo Wii is . . . unique. Because of that, many people—like me—were anticipating E3. At this point, if Nintendo doesn’t unveil something else exciting, the Wii may just flop like a Magikarp (excuse the pun). I have a gut feeling that something as awesome as the “light-saber controller” may not be enough for Nintendo to take the coveted first place in the console wars.

Due to the extensive amount of forum-reading, there’s something else most fans look forward to: The virtual console. Yes, the service that let’s you download or rent past Nintendo games; for a price.

If you ask nearly any hardcore gamer that’s great with a computer akin to Windows, that person would probably testify to emulation’s greatness. Emulation is the process of copying a game. Compilation packs would be an example. But anyways, many people can download ROMs of the original game, right to their PC, sound & controls intact. The only thing is emulating isn’t always legal. . . .

Why should we, the consumers at hand, pay $5 for a freakin’ download of Super Mario Bros.? This post may be crossing the line of legal and illegal, but why pay $8 for Super Metroid when you can quietly download it for free? It only takes a few minutes.

What would you do? Copyrights last 75 years, and for that I won’t give away any sites.

I hope this is comprehensive.

Yeah, Brawl news doesn't go in here and those pictures aren't new anyways, they're just captured stills from the E3 trailer.

How much do you guys have saved up for the Wii?

I've got 356 dollars. I figure that will be enough for the Wii, the pre- order, four controllers+nunchucks,
2 classic controllers, and possibly a game.

I need 615 if i want to get all the games I want plus controllers.

Soooo...... how much do you have saved up?

I thought I had $450, but I'm missing $100 or so. I dont remember if I spent it. $362 plus allowance and Christmas should be plenty. I just feel guilty about not giving the money to the poor. I'll get over it once I beat noobs in smash. :)

More info on the Wii horror game Sadness. Oh and I have $0 saved for the Wii :p

From IGN

July 27, 2006 - Poland-based Nibris recently sent some exclusive information our way regarding their highly-anticipated yet highly-mysterious Wii title, Sadness. Fans holding their breath for any new in-game shots might as well pass out now; Nibris has said that they will not publish any screens without the direct approval of their publisher. Just who exactly that publisher is remains a mystery at this time. The only comment we could get out of Nibris relating to this issue is that the publisher is neither Atlus nor Majesco (two companies heavily rumored to be publishing the game).

Nibris also is not going to provide any closer information on the game's scenario at this time: "Sadness is a novelty on the video games market. Both the story and the presentation of the game is going to be a surprise for a player," claims Adam Artur Antolski, one of the game's scriptwriters, "You must forgive us the fact that we present such scarce information about Sadness, but we hope that once you play it you will understand our circumspection. We do not want to spoil the fun."

One of the game's many Slavic legend-inspired enemies

Nevertheless, despite withholding specific details about the game, Nibris has given us a whole lot to think about regarding their Wii-exclusive horror title. The information presented thus far has given us but a small taste of a title which could fill a wholly unique niche in the Wii's software lineup. The game is not only much more adult-oriented in content than what we have come to expect from titles exclusive to Nintendo consoles, but it is also stylistically distinct from any other video game on the market at the moment. We must remind readers of the key selling point to Sadness's graphical presentation: the game will be shown entirely in black and white. For Sadness, Nibris is trying to create a haunting atmosphere of Victorian-era horror. In order to better increase the photorealism of the in-game environments Nibris opted for this graphical technique. If this pans out, the game could end up being visually distinct from anything else out there.

Due to the scale of the project, Nibris has invited some recognized development teams to join in on the production of the game. Frontline Studios -- a 30-person team with experience developing for Nintendo platforms -- will be responsible for the programming of the game. 3D graphics specialists, Digital Amigos, will be saddled with the creation of the visual side of the game. A demo reel showcasing the recent 3D graphic work of Digital Amigos can be found here. Additionally many outside consultants including psychologists and horror authors were brought in to aid with the development of the title.

Download a sample of the in-game music here.

Finally, Nibris supplied us with one more telling detail about the game: Sadness will not have any in-game menu system or HUD. Unlike pretty much every other game on the market, Nibris is attempting to amplify the horrific aspects of their game by making the world as realistic and immersive as possible. This also corresponds to the in-game usage of the Wiimote. "We are aiming at completely intuitive behaviour of the player - just as in life. Every choice a player makes is essential - if you experience traumatic events in your life, they are with you all the time. This will be the same in Sadness. We want the player to feel that he is participating in events, not merely playing a game," says Piotr Bielatowicz, game designer. The Wiimote is going to be a key element in elaborating on this gameplay goal: operations using the Wiimote will be completely intuitive. If there is an item in the environment, such as an umbrella, the player need only reach out with the Wiimote and grab that item. The player can then manipulate that item realistically through motioning with the controller. This should provide players with a whole new level of involvement in the actions of the game's characters. As a further effort to heighten the realism of the game, Nibris has said that they will be employing a save system that will be completely invisible to the player.

Despite the fact that the game remains largely as mysterious as ever, we can't help but feel our excitement growing for Sadness. The Wiimote has offered players an ever-expanding means by which we can interact with in-game environments, but thus far the games announced for the system have not exactly taken advantage of this to its fullest potential. Sadness looks to be one of the first Wii games that fully utilizes the Wiimote in order to really make the player feel the game. Every action in the game will be performed completely intuitively and naturally, making the horrific scenario all the more immersive.

No matter how excited for the title we are at this point, we are going to have to try to contain ourselves. Nibris has said that Sadness will not launch sooner than Q4 2007.

An interesting thing to note, in a recent interview, Nintendo was asked about regional locking. They expected a flat answer, but they skirted around the question, not confirmed it's locked for regions.

I've got approximately $100 in cash saved specifically for Ninty things. This could mean it'll go towards the Wii, or a DS Lite, or just some future games. But even if I spend it ahead of time, I do also have one of those magical credit card thingies.

How much do you think a Wiimote+Nunchuck will cost?

I figured around forty dollars when I made my Wii savings estimate.

Twenty-five washingtons for a classic controller? I hope the Wii has a bonus package that comes with two controllers, Wii sports, and a classic controller. I'd be willing to pay 250-275 for that.
