for starters you have the fact that winning a tournament set does not determine who the better one among the contrahents is. srsly you guys are a bunch of idiots if you think so.
and im not talking here about the absurdly gay playstyle that armada was confronted with and that limited him very much. and also not about the temperature that probably got him very out of concentration. in sweden its way colder and im sure he wasnt used to the heat during the tourney. and since hes an extremely adapting player this is actually a reasonable point.

but there is actually more. i strongly believe that he went through another matchup-crisis. it was the same with silent spectre who cannot possibly be considered as being better just because he 2-0 armada. it was a matchup problem and so is jiggs. europe doesnt have any good jigglypuffs. actually europe doesnt have anything good except a peach.

also the matchup is very bad for peach. its definately in jigglypuffs favour. and it gets worse: counterpicks lose their purpose since jiggs is good where peach is. armada was constantly being disadvantaged and thats the truth.

there is still to argue wether mango or armada is number one but since mango is almost in retirement theres no longer need to discuss about this.

ARmada is still stuck at being 3rd best in the world.

MaNg0 beats Hungybox
MaNg0 beats ARmada
Hungrybox beats ARmada

ARmada can barely beat Mew2King, but he's consistent at it
Hungrybox and MaNg0 have fun 3-0'ing Mew2King

i can beat all 3 of them, just not in my favor

mango's not retired any more than I am. I don't play often (cuz of brawl) but i'll still enter if 30+ people bug me to like they did at apex (I do it for the fans even though I don't think I'm good enough anymore). He plays with lucky before tourneys, but then uses not-mains in tourney sets.

Why I think Armada is not the best player in the world

1. Mango
2. Hungrybox

You can sling together all the theory you want but the results still stand. Hbox 5-0d him. I don't think much needs to be said for Mango. He's the best in the world.

Mew2king get outta here with all this talk about how you're not good. You still place at least top 5 at like every 'national' but barely touch the game.

Character selection does not dictate who is the best player in the world. If your character has a poor match up, and you're at the top of the chain of players, it's time to learn new characters to deal with the threats that are coming at you.

hypothetical here for you guys

armada wins every PAL tournament in europe
all of the assumptions in this thread are based on ntsc results
amsah is 1-0 vs armada in ntsc tournaments

if, down the road, armada continues to win every euro tourney and amsah beats him in every ntsc tourney, who would you consider better/who would be ranked higher?

armada would beat amsah 90% of the time, but the times amsah wins are in the game that the rest of the important results occurred in

quite a predicament in my opinion

i thought the sheik peach matchup was in peach's favor...plus the added fact that sheik doesn't have dthrow to gay *** fair in PAL makes me think something is up.

Mango and Hbox are the best, but if anybody is going to end their reign, it's gonna be Armada.

Amsah claims the Sheik:peach matchup is

NTSC
50:50

PAL
35:65 (in Peach's favor)

The best player in the world can't deal with many common match-ups and CAN'T deal with the weather. also your johns are really bad it's very possible to beat puff it's not like fox on PFs or anything extreme. If you can avoid and land hits without being punished you can win.

Not a chance. In friendlies on either the second or third day of Apex (I think it was the second when I saw them?), ARmada played a few friendlies with Darc and he just looked like he was having a lot of difficulty fighting him. If you saw his face, he looked pretty tense and unfriendly. ARmada really hates Jigglypuff.

50:50? ****...how?
I used to main Peach, and from what I know...

Peach can crouch cancel a lot of Sheik's moves, aside from ftilt. She can just cc dtilt or cc dmsash, and dtilt leads into good comboes, even vs Sheik.

If a Sheik player tries to attack too slow from dthrow at like 20%-100%, Peach can nair out to escape afer DI'ing away, but it's a pretty tight timing. In PAL it's guaranteed of course, at like any%.

Oh, wait, that's all I know about Peach. Ask Amsah for his theories.

50:50? ****...how?
What Peach has going for her
- Dtilt beats nearly anything Sheik can do and leads to combo's that make me want to play Brawl.
- CC Dsmash works on nearly any ground attack
- Can nair out of most combo's (except from grabs)
- Can't be edge guared or gimped easily
- Edge guards Sheik with her eyes closed (like most characters do)
- Can't be tech chased (because she doesn't tech 99.9% of the time)
- More useful projectiles (in this matchup) and I'm not even talking about stitches or bombs

What Sheik has going for her
- Grab that leads to anything
- Automatic kills from a grab at 130%

I'd say that's about even..:embarrass

I didn't know d-throw made the match-up from even to get *****. also in pal I would think d-throw fair would work for sheik nair doesn't outrange sheik's moves.

maybe, depends on why you play. i obv understand the viewpoint of picking tournament winners as the best players, but to play devil's advocate: if the matchup list indicates the expected win%'s when two characters, played by equally skilled players, faceoff then you wouldn't be doing anything too crazy by using it to determine who the better player is.

e.g if a matchup is accepted to be 5-5 but player a wins it 80% of the time, then he should be given credit for this. doesn't mean that player a could necessarily switch characters and dominate, b/c there is uncertainty but to say the onus on them is to change characters in order to be recognized as being better is meh to me

edit: fwiw i'm not saying that any player who gets off w/o a top tier character is in contention for the best, but there should be leeway for calling player a better than player be imo even if his tourney performance is slightly worse. i know that may not be popular, just how i feel

I agree. From the look of matches I watch, Mango's reads and his quick adaptations are simply on a higher level than other players'. I think he may be bored because he feels this way as well.

That said, M2K you're still awesome

Dthrow leads to nothing in PAL. He can DI away from me to the point where I can barely hit him with a dash attack..lol

Honestly, I still think it's 55-45 in NTSC in Peach's favor, but I don't feel like arguing about it every single time so I just say it's even.

It means more than your thinking about. besides that 3% or whateverit's control of the match it can give, as a bottom tier main I totally understand the value of taking ANY free damage you can take more delays, more space/control and damge. It makes your grabs more than useless. There is still punishment no matter what they do. like puffs up-throw vs space animals.

air needles can get some stuff going sometimes.

well if he's so good at adapting then why would the temperature bother him???
