This thread... Haha. Mango has reached a level that no other player has reached, EVER. Without a doubt, the best player in the world. With that said, I was really looking forward to a Mango/Hbox Grand Finals... I think it could have gone either way.

I have to agree with -ACE- I think I would say Mango is almost to SSBM as Isai is to SSB64. ALMOST. Isai's just too good in SSB64 with every character, but Mango is almost too good with almost every character (haven't ever seen him be G&W or Pichu or wutnot).

Sure, Ken was the "king of smash" and he was amazing. And there were other awesome people. However, nobody's ever been as good as Mango is so consistently and with so much of the cast. Well, as consistent as not screwing around and getting drunk goes.

This is actually better than inui logic.

The best part is it works with everyone. Wobbles demonstrated that point very well with his post.

Remember folks, it only works with non-spacies (and non-jiggs apparently) since if you lose a matchup that's not in your favor you are STILL THE BETTER PLAYER. Losing with a space animal means you're worse.

For example:

ICG is the best player in the world, he only lost to Mango because it was really cold out, everyone knows ICG lives on the surface of the sun so he isn't used to the cold. He uses Pichu anyways so even doing damage to Mango means he's a better player. I think ICG just went through a matchup crisis because he never gets to play against any good puffs. ICG was constantly being disadvantaged and that's the truth.

Interesting to watch is highly subjective...roy has a lot fewer (smart) options, sure stuff may happen faster, but it's also going to be the same things happening over and over since those are the smartest options. But if nothing else it's a change of pace. I have a lot of fun playing roy, just not vs. marth.

I simply use perfect logic I think about what i'm doing getting a sandwich, I think about why I want it? Am I falling into a habit of always getting roast beef? Does it matter? If I get it everyday of my life am I a robot? Are these thoughts right or ever this one? Who do I know what's right? If I had perfect lgoc wouldn't I sit there forever carefully thinking about if my logic was right and how to test and etc.

if, in the future, PAL tourneys end up showing different results (armada beating amsah) than ntsc tourneys (amsah beating armada), how will the results be weighed in discussions and rankings? what if hbox goes to europe and loses to armada? you get the idea

For the record, character does NOT come into play when you decide who is best as a player. That is because part of your decision making and skill is based on character choice and counterpicks. Being good at this game starts before the announcer says go.

We play different characters because, ideally, they best complement our innate characteristics and give us the best chance of winning. I play ICs because they let me plan, play tricky, and punish hard. When I lose to a Peach, I can't legitimately say "I'm better than you and I only lost because you played a counterpick character," because part of being good is overcoming situational disadvantages like counterpicks. If I really want to be "better" then I need to either win the counter matchup or have a different character in reserve.

HBox has demonstrated himself to handle just about every matchup in any kind of situation unless his opponent just completely outplays him (leaving us with Mango, pretty much), whereas Armada has several notable weaknesses--Falcon and Puff specifically--that will constantly plague him in tournament play unless he can get rid of them somehow. Those weaknesses and susceptibility to being beaten by HBox's style prevent him from being legitimately called the best in the world.

It's also worth noting that he's come to America 3 times for major tournaments and hasn't won any of them. How does this indicate he is the BEST if he hasn't actually WON?

(By the way, Armada is really really good, and I'm certainly not saying he isn't. But he has his weaknesses and he isn't perfect and even he will agree that he's not the best. So this thread is silly.)

It really sucks for Armada. I think the gap between him and Mango/Hungrybox will continue to increase because Armada has no competition in Europe. He beats even the best Europeans 4=0 and it's very rare for him to attend a national tournament and actually drop a match. That sucks because as great as they are neither Mango or Hbox have ever won a national tournament without dropping a game, they actually have competition over here so they skills stay sharp. Armada has no challenge in Europe so I don't think he'll be able to keep up with America's best.

I'm not saying that is or isn't true, but simply that there's no way to really know. It'd be next to impossible to have a truly continent-wide tourney with all the best players. I'm as big a fan of Armada as the next guy-not-named-Mike-slash-distraction, but I'm not content to just rule out the possibility of good competition in Europe.
