Actually I was in w-mart yesterday and saw a mom buy her 9 or 10 year old son GTA 4.
I actually went up to the woman and expressed my concern as to why she would do such a thing. She responded with this. "There is nothing wrong with letting him play this game, and I don't appreciate you putting your nose in my buisness. I know how to raise my son, now shut up and get the f*** away from us."

His moms not any better, she knows her son does stupid stuff (he broke my window with a rock) and she says that we are lying and her little son would never do that >_>

This is the same mom that bought her son GTA 4 and gears of war...

That, my friend, is the sign of a bad parent. If she were just ignorant and realized after being warned that it was a bad idea, that's one thing. But you've got to be willing to take advice, especially if you're stupid enough to buy a 10 year-old GTA. You didn't go in saying "OH MY GAWD YOR DEWING IT RAWNG!", if you merely expressed a concern she should've listened.

No, I'm with the lady on this one. What this lady does and doesn't let her son play is noone's business but her own and I doubt she wants to be heckled by some dude at Walmart. Your intentions were good though, so that's something.

I'de hardley call what I said heckling, or even being rude. While I agree it is her buisness, I was just trying to make sure she was aware of the implications of buying a game like that for someone so young. She could of at least been polite in return, rather than saying "get the f*** away".

Yeah I know rockman2k1 was being sarcastic, I just wanted to address that point.

And that Mother obviously didn't want to listen because she thought she knew the facts while in reality she has been misinformed by people she trust (authority figures), media and probably her child. People tend to believe and accept alot of what their authority figures say (someone they trust, parents, media, ect) which is okay. But when it's negative information such as lies and stereotypes and act on it, that when it gets bad. Like bullies. They obviously bully people who play games because they automatically group them with labels such as 'geeks' and 'nerds' (thankfully I rarely hear those words I this country). They assume that since the have a pastime that usually requires 1 player, they have no friends, 'life' or other interests. These sort of people are the type that find it hard accept when they're wrong since their sort of thinking was built up from 'reliable sources' and now wonder why they should take your opinion above their own. This stereotype was build by generations and in generations it will fade away, eventually, since society is always changing. But unfortunately these people will just move onto something else...

I've actually played GTA (at my friend's house) and I got no sense of reality from it. By people's logic I should be a cereal killer since i'm a Dragonball Z fan :/

Give them Super Metroid and tell them they have to sequence break at least once, single wall jump, infinite bomb jump, and pull off a mockball. They'll probably cry. Even though those aren't, with the exception of a mockball, all that difficult to do.

It's called Mushihimesama. It's based on insects and bugs. It was a arcade game (rip off merchants). I doubt it'll ever be released on the virtual console though

Gaming may be able to show you somethings about real life, but still. These are games. You can't gain skill from games in anything but that game.

Wii Music won't teach me to play guitar, I have my guitar to practice that.
Nor will Guitar Hero. Same story with GTA. How 2 rob, pratic gta lol.

And there also is a stereotype that people who play games mostly are people that phail at everything else. Slight exaggeration on my part, but it's the way they word it.

Some people who are addicted to games may fail at learning if they are completely obsessed with the thing. But I think that's really an addiction thing, and anything else could have taken that role.

I am bad at math. (accordingly, most brits are and are proud.)
OMG is it because of games? No. I just phail at math. I'm getting better, yay, but I'm great at other things. But people always focus on negative things. It's our nature.

Wii Music and Guitar Hero have quite the opposite effect, I'm pretty sure most people are aware of that. In fact, the people who aren't are, from my experience, the people who play nothing but Guitar Hero, in other words, not real gamers.

No one thinks that you're ACTUALLY going to learn guitar from video games, or that you're going to learn how to handle a gun from a game, or a sword, etc. Or how to be an intergalactic bounty hunter. CLEARLY this is true. Games still have benefits. Certain games are mindless, but all games give hand-eye coordination, and games like Metroid and Zelda have intense puzzles which make you think. Games do not have EXTREME benefits, but they aren't benefit-less.
