What is your first fighting video game? In the competitive sense.

The pizza place by my house seemed to favor SNK over Capcom, although I did play my fair share of SF II Turbo. The first fighting game I got serious at was Melee. First 2D serious game around the same time were KoF 2002 and 3rd Strike, but now I pretty much play them all. The arcade in my college had a Vampire Savior 2 machine when my brother was a freshman, but when I attended they got rid of it >_>

The first fighting game I played widespread against people I didn't already know was probably either Melee (in the back of Cybergames - Kirby all the way!), or Marvel vs Capcom (1). Can't remember which.

Street Fighter II: Turbo? ...I think. In the arcade scene

It's the one where Balrog, Vega, and 'em all were playable.

My first was DOA4, I traveled to tournaments and was known as one the top Jann Lee players. From there I moved to Brawl, and now Blazblue, and more general competitive games.

I honestly can't remember. I went through a crapload of fighters in the arcade when I was little, but I'm pretty sure SFII was my first fighter.

Competitive-wise, melee.

My first was Tekken 5 for the PS2 when I was like 15, but then I got annoyed when I got ***** by Devil Jin's lasers one to many times and stopped.

I played Soul Calibur 2 (The one on gamecube of course) quite a bit when it came out, and I was pretty dam good. But it's mostly just melee for me from 2006-now I'd say...

Uhhh...I wasn't too competitive about many games until I played Melee, because I honestly didn't care about the deeper aspects of games until then. After I saw professional Melee players, that casual side of me completely left. :urg: I started to become extremely competitive and always wanted to get better. This carried on to other games, and now I'm in the Hisouten/soku/Smash competitive communities. x.x Tried Soul Calibur, but didn't like it too much. I also play Tekken.

This post needs more of the word competitive. But erm...yeah. It was Melee.

Soul Calibur II.

Its beautiful flow and noticeable depth was the first fighter that inspired me to take my skills further and further.

It's not just your typical "memorise this 30 button long combo", it had this finesse to it that I really enjoyed. I'm not very competitive by nature though, so I'm not usually compelled to pursue a competitive mindset for most games.

Where I played competitively, probably Melee, but I didn't play much and never went to a tourney. For Brawl, I went to some school tournaments and wanted to compete in actual tournaments, but by the time that happened, I got sick of Brawl.

Then Street Fighter IV comes in. I have yet to go to a tournament for various reasons, but this is the game where I'd want to go to EVO 2010 with. I intended on going to tournaments starting this month, but it'll be difficult starting next semester.

You sir, know what a great fighting game is. This was mine as well.

(and anyone else who picked Tekken)
Sweet! This thread needs more Tekken.

You two are my heroes lol Kazuya = one good time :bee:
Has anyone ever played Primal Fury though?
Heh, well technically I started competing in TK3, TK and TK2 were too... ... stiff. Yeah... but TK3 unleashed the real potential in 3D fighting, SO smooth, seamless, just... amazing, way ahead of its time, I actually like it more than Tag or 4, haven't played 5 or 6 yet... yet. I main Heihachi, hell sweeps FTW :D

Haha no never played any of the Bloody Roar games... though I hear their fun, just not as ... technical as TK or VF.

I was gonna hold out for SF4 before getting into another fighting game, but NOW... ugh. We picked up the MK Kollection and I'm totally into it now, I'm really surprised at how much effort went into designing the fight system. I'd never played Deadly Alliance, really... but now w/this boxed set I get to play Deception (we're still unlocking it -_-) then Armageddon, and I must say they're actually very sophisticated in terms of move sets, combos, juggles, there's a lot to them, way more than the 2-d ones. It still fails in one way so far I can tell, that ridiculous drop-animation you get if you take a KO hit that is less than a certain %, cause then the character has to stand up, then fall over like a tree >< looks really gay
