I don't wanna sound like a prick, but I'm turned off when I find out the person I like is religious. :X

I'm also turned off if they're packing a lot of weight, to the point where it's clearly unhealthy.

Plus, I'm racist and I'm only into Asians.

Fake-ness.
I am unattractive to the girls I see wearing all designer clothing, bleached hair, over-sized sunglasses, more makeup than actual... skin. That whole bit.

And I agree with Victra. I can't really be attracted someone who is very religious.

This, and the opposite of the weight part, meaning she's so thin it's clearly unhealthy.

Smoking? Biggest turnoff. Same with excessive drinking.

I tend to be deterred from people with poor hygiene, but sometimes I walk through some of the messier markets here and enjoy myself.

Otherwise, I can be easily deterred if someone is racist, "Religionist", or is an overly-hyperactive person. Manners can also be an issue.

Speaking in terms of girls, I dislike the snobby, seemingly dumb, or makeup-stuffed ones.

If a girl is affiliated with any of the Abrahamic religions I am turned off entirely.

Girls who say that evolution is just a theory.

Oh and yeah, the bad hygiene and whatnot.

Oh, and racism. I have dated every ethnicity except for maybe west indies or something.

Oh yeah, and smoking >___>

That's the worst, straight up. The smell by itself makes me gag.

Men.

No, but seriously: Girls that fawn over movie actors. I appreciate a woman who can see farther than her nose, so to speak. Shallowness is something that I absolutely hate. However, I've learned to really break out of that habit of judging shallower people, and realizing that they're not that way permanently. Sometimes the surface contains a good deal of information, and when you spend your whole time digging deep, you tend to forget the most obvious things. So I can appreciate that in a woman, or any human being at all.

But what's with all the religious hate? There are people even of the Abrahamic faiths who have *gasp* real reason to believe what they believe. Oftentimes the people who hate religious people have never really taken an in-depth look at the proves on either side. Likewise with people who think that doubting evolution is crazy. Just because you're taught it in high school doesn't mean it's true. If you really dig into neo-Darwinian evolution, there are a lot of problems with it. You hit the wall of irreducible complexity when you really look at the functions necessary for the life of even a single-cell organism. The gap between what Darwin knew of cells and what we know now is mind-blowing and it seriously harms the theory. For anyone who's interested, take a look at a book called Darwin's Black Box.

I can understand people getting frustrated with ignorant religious people, but there are ignorant athiests as well. And besides all this, their ignorance is only their lack of knowledge. If they're willing to learn more and just haven't been presented with the information: Are they at fault? Not quite. Are many religious people ignorant? Absolutely. But I'd also say that many people are ignorant. Not everyone has the access to the education they would want--and not everyone has the mind to learn it. But regardless, you should not put religious people in a box, thinking they're merely ignorant. If you do, you run the risk of becoming ignorant yourself.

If you want to respond, do it in a PM. This is a cool thread and I don't want to ruin it, but I also wanted to make my stance clear.

@proverbs: If you were my girlfriend, we would not get along and we would constantly bicker.

That's as much of a reason I'll give in this thread.

Evolution is a fact. You see this computer you're using? Guess what, we understand less about what is going on in the computer than we do about evolution. But, you accept that you are reading this message right now through the medium of photons--and we understand that less than evolution.

Also, irreducibly complex systems are predicted to arise in evolved systems. That was predicted in circa 1900. There is no wall to irreducible complexity. It is part of evolution.

Like, I really want to know where you get this propaganda from. I really want to know. The motor Flagellum for instance was considered a PERFECT example of irreducible complexity. Well, guess what? Ken Miller showed that you can take away nearly 80% of its parts and it still has a function!!

So much for irreducible complexity. Plus, your body is an irreducibly complex system. You take away your liver, and you die. You take away your heart, and you die. But it is an evolved system. Why people cannot realize this is beyond me.

Please do not act like you understand evolution, or the theory of it. Also, just so you know, a theory in scientific terms is not a conjecture or a hypothesis. It makes predictions, and contains axioms and accurately represents a process.

If theories were just hunches, then we wouldn't have had an atomic bomb that killed 150,000 people in Japan. It's a theory because it explains a set of phenomena.

Evolution is occuring--did occur, will continue after we are all dead too, but the theory of evolution is imperfect. You are correct. No theory is perfect. There is always things that need to be added, or amended--but for the most part it is as approximate as you will ever get to anything you can say is a fact, or truth.

I don't get it. Do you have any real evidence to say that evolution isn't a fact? Antennapedia, Nylonase, the newly discovered properties of prions? Like, seriously?

I mean hell, anyone with cancer is a beacon for evolution. Cancer is a perfect example of one of the mechanisms of evolution. A mutation turns on a particular set of genes, and begins to produce telomerase which regenerates the telomeres of the cell, and thus making it immortal. And thus it can continue to mutate.

Stop being so daft. I am sick of stupid kids who take one biology course and think they understand what evolution is.

Sorry if I derailed the girl hate here, but you can't be seriously contending that evolution didn't happen. The evidence is absurdly large. Like, as if someone came into your house, wrote their name on the wall, took a picture of themselves, then printed it and glued it all over the house, left their blood everywhere while writing "I STOLE YOUR STUFF", and then stole everything--and then someone says, "well hey, we didn't see it..." but what about all the forensic evidence you'd exclaim, and they'd simply say "well hey, we didn't see it."

That's the kind of logic you seem to have.

Define your version of evolution, because if you are talking about monkeys into humans and people getting smarter you are wrong.

Monkeys into humans? What the hell? That's not evolution. We share a common ancestor, but that's about it. And, we have gotten considerably smarter in the past 2.5 million years. Our cranial size has almost quadrupled.
