Geez, I come to the Peach boards seeking help and find it's just a clone LoL thread



ANYWAYS, hi guys, my name's Vocal. I've been messing around with Melee this summer (mostly Sheik) and I'm thinking about learning how to play Peach. I'm impressed by what she can do but what I notice is that she is just so incredibly complicated. How do I even begin to approach learning her from a gameplay aspect?

Also, the guy I get to play against most often plays Marth a lot, so tips on how to play that matchup would be nice.

Oh well that's pretty neat. I used to dabble a little in WC3.

I still really like some of the micro and battles that were in wc3. I remember watching moon and ****ing myself everytime i saw him play cause he did incredible things EVERY game. I was watching one game and during a battle at his base he moved ~6 wisps out onto the field and held position to form a wall to reduce his opponent's surface area and give his archers more area to hide behind his DH. Immediately when he saw a shift in the battle he moved his wisps to surround the opponent's hero and forced a TP. I've seen him hold off 2 crypt ghoul rushes where they sell their TP to get extra minerals to support it with only his DH. Actually it wasn't only his DH cause on that specific map he used his DH and a wisp to buy mercenaries (lure the creeps out with your hero, send wisp in, buybuybuy, runrunrun) but he did a fast tech with no ancient of war. I practiced hard to have micro like that, and at my peak i considered myself one of the top 10-20 US Night Elfs, though i lost passion and quit shortly after (and went to play melee )

That said, I'm still too new to Melee to really say I main anyone. I'm still just jumping around, trying options. For Marth it pretty much just seems like I need to learn to L-Cancel better and wavedash better and then boom I'll have a decent Marth. That's why I'm not really worrying about learning him right this instant.

It's really funny to see a Peach main calling another character weird I didn't get Sheik right away, but after a couple days of playing I started getting the gist of it. Still gotta work on reverse needles, approaching, and improving my edgeuarding game, but I still get her enough.

Lol. I guess Peach is weird. I dunno, she felt rather natural to me when I started toying with her. All I saw Sheik do was needles, tech chase, and fair, and somehow she won. I never understood it to where I could apply it well.

hate to be vanz, but really, cut the SC2 talk, like a post or 2 is fine, but since it's obvious that it's only you 2, take it to walls or pm's or something

i mean it's one thing for all of us to be goofing off and talking about silly things, but when you purposely try and direct the convo to SC2 that's a big no no

and to whoever is picking characters, trust me, it's always good to practice the basic stuff with even just like marth/falcon. you don't know the pain i have gone through to practice tech skill now. it's really hard to will myself to do it mentally too because of the skill gap. i can't even do the most basic like marth/falcon and i get mad trying to practice it, oh the frustration lol

On a related note, I can SHFFL well with Falcon. As a Peach main, that makes me happy.

So apparently, Armada is a campy player who plays gay all the time and deserves no respect for his Genesis 2 win, cause all he did was camp. That's what I'm hearing from people I know, and I have to say, that bothers me.

What is the big hang up on camping. Okay, so Armada doesn't approach a lot as PEACH. Big deal. Giving him no respect cause his opponents mostly run into him and he punishes them is idiotic. (I'm pointedly ignoring his set vs Hbox).

Maybe it's my Peach main bias speaking, but not only do I see camping as NOT a big deal, I think it's easier to deal with than aggression, and if people were smarter about approaching, and didn't feel like everything had to be so aggro, then maybe people like Armada wouldn't be taking advantage of their approaches.

Wobbling is something that I hated at first, but I look at it in terms of IC's not having the best approach, and them having a short grab range. I don't particularly like it, still, and I'll be annoyed when I get wobbled, but I don't think I'd want it banned. I do feel as though wobbling is kind of a cheat, to be honest.

Laser camping...I dunno. As a Peach, I always float above lasers, forcing them to usual do something else. But that's not an infallible technique, either. Nothing about camping is unbeatable or cheap to the point of guaranteeing anything, so I don't see why if someone doesn't approach, they are suddenly playing gay.

I think fox's laser camp is much better than falco's in most cases. Falco's laser is more purposeful tho

Yeah, I never really got that he was really campy. Defensive, sure -- but you have to use Peach's shield a lot against Fox x_x. Armada just capitalizes on people's mistakes, and Peach happens to be able to punish hard, and coupled with his level of consistency in following up, it's pretty impressive. I wonder why no Fox has tried to force Armada to approach with laser camping. (Although, I'm sure it's happened) I suspect he jus turnip->approach them as soon as they start and they have to do something else get FC aerial'd or whatnot.

Something I notice all the time and was extremely showing with Armada vs... everyone...

When you have stage control, (in the middle forcing them to the edge in a float-trap or whatever) using floats and pulling turnips and all of that is good.
When you don't have stage control, (on the side or near the edge and avoiding platform-camp-traps) staying grounded and baiting with shields is good.

Basic logic stuff I'm sure everyone does, but I just like to emphasize things like this when teaching the basics. It's a huge part of the game and often overlooked. Learn both variations of caution/aggression/walls/traps. You'll need them!

Yeah, my words don't make much sense, now that I read them, but to be honest, I see both sides of wobbling, and can't really make up my mind. The thing that I hate about it is that once they get a grab, the technique leads to a guaranteed kill. The great thing about Melee is that almost nothing is guaranteed, and certainly not camping. So when people moan and complain about it, I don't get it, cause it's not guaranteed. Just think.

When I first saw Armada, he looked like the most aggressive Peach I'd ever seen. Now that I know a little bit more, I see what he does, but camping in general shouldn't be that big of a deal to people. It's just something to get around.
