Wny 2010-2011
Hey guys, I hope you all had an awesome summer. I spent a lot of time with the apartment kids playing Smash, and they've all gotten way better.
This year is going to be big for us. San and Neil have made names for themselves in Brawl, and after the PA shenanigans, other regions are def going to be coming and trying to show us what's up. Same with Melee, after my trip.
I have a lot of personal goals in Smash, going deeper than just trying to win all the time. As I said though, those are personal goals that I must meet.
However, I think over this past year we've really come together as a region. There were some crazy times we had, with Smashfests and upsets. (Minh beating my Fox on FD, great stuff.) Everyone is motivated to win, and now Steve and Minh are living together, so they're going to get way better as well. Snowman's been coming over to improve, Juni's gotten much better, etc.
I'm looking forward to having fun Smashests, chilling with everyone, etc. However, this year, I really want us to break out as a strong region. I think some of us have gotten a little tired with Smash, as no one is constantly playing as much anymore. Steffon rushes home to play Fallout, Neil plays other games and chills with Amber a lot, and others as well, me included. It's all good, people have other things in life they have to deal with.
But, other regions don't care about what we have to deal with in life. They don't care about what other games we play or what we have going on with our lives. They care about tournament results and how they do vs. us.
We're getting there guys, we really are. We're not a deadly region right now, we're still trying to breakout. We need more dedication though, and this is something I struggle with too. I feel horrible letting my region down when Canada comes and beats us, or when I go OOS and scrub out and lose to people I know I can beat handily. It hurts me mentally and emotionally, but those are all problems I'm dealing with personally.
Everyone else here has the chance to defend this region as well. How much do you love playing at our Smashests? How much are you impressed with the improvement of your peers? I'm so excited to see Minh become absolutely **** in Melee, as well as other people. That creates pride in me, and I think pride in all of us.
When we were playing vs Pennsylvania, I wasn't playing and I felt like I was letting us down by not playing. I'm so thankful for San, who was able to beat them all pretty easily, and Neil for coming back and showing them that we will fight till the end....But I don't want to be that region that fights to the end and loses. Neil won thankfully, but against better players, maybe he wouldn't.
We're all brought together by Smash. Even people I get annoyed with, like Kyle...We were brought together by Smash as well. I'm working on a lot of things, especially my mindset. We all need to focus on Smash as well. Some people will focus to varying degrees, and put more or less time into the game. That's cool. Let's just make the time we put into the game matter though. If someone feels like they are playing and not learning, ask one of the more experienced players, me included, to help you. I'll help anyone if they ask for it, they just have to say something.
Well, I've talked enough, I think you guys get the point. Basically, I'm super excited to play with everyone, but I want to see us stronger this year. I want to see us become deadly. Many of us have gotten much better, Rob, Min, Steve, Foy especially. We can do it, and we will with enough practice.
Here's to an awesome year for WNY Smash.
