Pac-Land was the best option for a Pac-Man stage that isn't maze-related or from a connected IP. Most non-maze Pac-Man locations (and dare I say games, even as someone who loves PMW) are awfully generic (Clown Prix comes to mind as an exception), and while Pac-Land is a generic locale, its aesthetic - kinda existing in the middle ground between 8-bit and 16-bit - is really unique. That being said, I would've prefered a stage based directly on the Hanna-Barbera show, since that show had some really fun archetecture designs, but Western multimedia adaptations, especially older ones, are something that has always been out of Smash's zone (...for now. Peaches is like a 50/50 chance of being a music track depending on how negotiations go.) - Ghostly Adventures took a similar approach to its backgrounds, but at the time I don't think it would've been a good idea, given all the paranoia about it - though now that's just kind of a nostalgic 2010s throwback, it'd be a cute pull.
