Completely making stuff up and pretending like you know everything about Brawl could be entertaining lol.

You know, none of the austin brawl players are going to show up because you guys talk about hating the game all the time and they aren't really interested in playing with people who are just going to complain a lot lol. Most of the austin brawl players just like to have fun they just do like low tier doubles and all ganon ffa's with items on etc being degraded isn't really appealing. Considering we always play at chads anyways there really isn't much incentive :/.

I would go to play melee with you guys but there are usually tournaments or I'm working so :/.

A lot of us do prefer Melee over Brawl but we respect Brawl players for enjoying the game and having the determination to get so good at it. I guess the main reason I want you guys to come is to possibly inspire the inexperienced Brawl players that come to meetings to learn to play the game at a high level. I mean, I was a complete noob the first time I went to Smash Club a couple years ago but I played some really good Melee players and it made me develop a passion for playing the game and improving. So, it's about fostering the growth of the general Austin smash community. The more the merrier, right?

Pragmatically speaking, if you guys come to this meeting I would say you have a pretty good chance of making top 3 and winning some cash & we are recording losers, winners, and grand finals so your matches can be uploaded to YouTube. It would be nice to have some vids of high level Brawl matches on our YT account.

Anyways, I would like to get an idea of what side events people really want to do. I'm thinking Brawl doubles would be popular since there will already be so many people there for Brawl. And maybe they would also be willing to enter a Brawl+ event? As for a Melee event, we will probably do a random char random stage tourney lol. Actually, I'd like to make a poll for side events in the thread--does anybody know how to do it?

EDIT: Apparently you need a premium membership to be able to make polls. It looks like you have one Justin--can you try making a poll so people can vote on all the different side events we're considering to hold at this meeting?

congrats Clay on the 1000th post, you win a cookie
Vegeta, what does the scouter say about Smash Club's post count level??

Like, we get that you all like Melee and other games, but the constant OPEN condescension towards Brawl is a pretty big deterrent for Brawl players. Like, I tried to convince the people that weren't going to Mizumi-con to go to this, and many of them weren't interested for this reason.

I think you should try coming to a meeting once. If people constantly make fun of you for playing "Barlw" or if you have little to no fun, then I would understand if you didn't want to come back.

Honestly, Kal is the only one that openly insults the Brawl players, and he's usually just joking around.
That shouldn't be any serious reason for Brawl players to not show up.
And Clay, IT'S OVER ONE-THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks.
Nice jiggs.
lol, thnx dude, but Jiggs is so broken in minus that a lot of people can be **** with her.

Yeah, what "constant OPEN condescension towards Brawl" is there? The people who show up to play Barlw get no hassle from me. Seriously, I don't remember even having any interaction with any Austin Barlw players. Where are these memories of condescension coming from?

If you guys just give it a chance, I guarantee you'll have fun. We really don't act the way you guys think we do.

Nah, I mean on the forums. A lot of people haven't met you guys, and this is all they have to go by, and I'm just telling you that it could deter some people. I don't personally care, and I'd go to the meeting if I didn't stand to win more in San Antonio.

This is exactly what PX is talking about. Brawl scene doesn't misspell "Melee," yet a lot of people in the Smash Club spell "Brawl" as "Barlw." Just doesn't help in convincing Brawl players to show up.

Well, there's kind of an inside story to the misspelling of Brawl. I just don't see us misspelling Brawl as Barlw insulting enough to discourage anyone from coming.

Regardless, it's a good point. We'll spell it Brawl from now on.

Yeah, there isn't actually a whole lot of condescension toward Brawl at Smash Club. We do make jokes from time to time, but even with regards to the "Barlw" thing, it's only Kal who really spells it that way consistently, and you'll just learn that Kal is a jerk to everybody, haha.

However, personal preferences aside, we welcome all Smash players and would love to see good turnout for Brawl as well as Melee.

Although many of us prefer Melee and make fun of Brawl from time to time, we do not hate Brawl and Brawl players. We do not mean to deter anybody that enjoys any smash game from coming. On the contrary, the purpose of the club is to make it easier for ALL Austin smashers to meet each other so they can improve and have fun!

I just met with a campus representative for EA Games, Kevin, that would like to work with us. Specifically, he wants to bring a setup (TV, console, controllers) for certain EA video games to meetings so people can try out these games and provide feedback on whether they like the games or not. He would hold free raffles and give away free EA games and merchandise. Finally, he *might* be able to provide pizza, depending on the budget he is given (he will get back to me on whether or not this would be feasible).

So, what do you guys think, should we accept this offer? Seems pretty harmless to me. If he really can bring pizza I think that would clinch the deal heh.

But I will have to check with SALD again to make sure this would be completely legal.

IDK, not sure what events we could have put in, but there you go
I also have a dreamcast w/ soul calibur, if anyone's interested

I could care less for Brawl, I mean, I already suck at one game, not gonna try to do the same in another one...
We're forgetting about the 64 crowd though =P

Once a lonely caterpillar sat and cried
To a sympathetic beetle by his side
I've got nobody to hug
I'm such an ug-i-ly bug

Then a spider and a dragonfly replied
If you're serious and want to win a bride
Come along with us, to the glorious annual ugly bug ball

Come on let's crawl (gotta crawl gotta crawl)
To the ugly bug ball (to the ball to the ball)
And a happy time we'll have there, one and all and the ugly bug ball

Well I think the "ugly bug ball" is actually analogous to "Barlw" in this case, where all the ugly bugs(caterpillar, beetle, spider, dragonfly) have to resort to when they aren't beautiful bugs (Melee players) and thus are kicked out of the "lovely bug ball" (Melee).

Kal did I interpret that poem correctly?

Just kidding. Brawl is legit.

I only spell it "Barlw" because Kal does, I don't actually hate it, haha.
My only frustration is that Brawl was released the way it is instead of as B+, with combos and edgeguarding possible.

So,...I've read the last four pages (I'm of the normal Brawl smashfest attendees over @ Chad's) and...

I guess I'ma be there. Bashing Brawl on the forums IS a deterrent since I know none of y'all BUT if I go, and it's not apparent @ the tournament (or at least not in your face obvious), I won't hate myself for going.

Hopefully I can bring home some $.

Hm, I don't think the people who play Melee for this club are really insulting Brawl. They probably do make jokes and insults inside their own circle, but in the end, you have to respect the people who play Brawl competitively. Especially on the outside. They are putting just as much time and effort into the game as you guys are for Melee.

No but in all seriousness, Brawl is legit. I just choose not to play it and sometimes it is fun to crack jokes at the game, but I give respect to the Brawl players' decision to play the game and I hold nothing against them. It's essentially my immature side that bashes Brawl, and I think it's the same for most of the Melee players, so don't feel deterred in coming to these meetings! We're all smash players, after all.

I like Brawl for certain players I can play as
I think playing Pkmn trainer is awesome, same thing w/ ROB
All the negatives of Brawl have already been thrown out into the open (tripping... etc.) so I could care less about bashing a game that has problems like every other fighting game.

Matt, I only posted lyrics from that song because I had just heard it. It's new and exciting!

JoWii, I think that you'll have fun. If you don't have fun, it at least won't have anything to do with us bashing the game. I wouldn't say you should expect to find great competition there; those of us who consistently show up are only good at Melee (well, at least me and Mitch are good at Melee, everyone else is terrible, teehee), but the environment there is very inclusive.

Was your first set with Darkrain closer Mitchell? At any rate, you held your own against (arguably) the best falcon in the world. O.o

Smash Club does not condone the use of drugs at meetings. But we won't have drug-sniffing dogs or anything. *wink*
But we will have 5 pit bulls there to guard the money. And yes, that's an absolutely necessary expense.

Does the Brawl singles tourny start at 4 or 5? I've heard different things.
Meeting starts at 4pm (we will start setting up early so should be set up on time). Tourney starts at 5pm.

About the meeting, we will need 2 or 3 extra tables and I'm a little worried about us not being able to find tables in a neighboring room/bldg to borrow. Anybody know where we can borrow tables?
