Meeting starts at 4pm (we will start setting up early so should be set up on time). Tourney starts at 5pm.

About the meeting, we will need 2 or 3 extra tables and I'm a little worried about us not being able to find tables in a neighboring room/bldg to borrow. Anybody know where we can borrow tables?
plan on starting on time this meeting? :p

just so u know i dont know if i can bring my roommates wii this time again. ill let ya know though

oh wow, Zelda is that bad now? she started out like mid-tier...
so I haven't exactly been following the brawl scene, but some interesting things about this new list:
The number of Wario users has exploded, and yet he falls from 3rd to 7th?
Virtually no one uses Falcon at a high level, his match-ups are still abysmal, and yet he moves up?
MK once again has his own tier... the only one... hmm...

Zelda was high tier when Melee came out. One spot below Marth. It just goes to show you how much the tier list changes as the game develops.

Also, Hylian has confirmed with me that he is coming to this tournament. GET HYPE!

Too bad he's going to get ***** in Melee. teehee

There will also be a Melee Singles tournament with a $5 entry fee and cash prizes!

As far as setups are concerned we will have:
-8 TVs: Rohan and I bringing 4, Juan bringing 3, and Edgar bringing 1.
-4 Brawl setups: my wii, Jose's, Kal's, Hector's
-4 Melee setups: my GC, Edgar's wii and GC, Juan's GC
-1 64 setup: mine

If anybody else can bring a setup, please do so to ensure that we have enough!

Ash, i never questioned Zelda's position as a great character, she's one of my favorite. This only means Zelda had a rough year.

Had a fun time. Great to see the club being more organized. The only recommendation I wanna make is that as far as refreshments go, it would be nice to have water bottles. I'm probably the only one though that doesn't enjoy drinking soda. No johnz.

Great to hear guys.
Mitchell, we WILL finish our B+ set, I was in the middle of bairing your face when Kal made you stop.
If you want it to feel more like Melee, use fox or sheik, minus wavedashing.
Marth operates differently, and Falco's moveset itself is a lot different. Falcon is awesome, but he lacks priority.
I'll prolly hold back on the Brawl tourneys for now on, cuz the game just isn't fun for me anymore, I can't ever be aggressive w/o getting punished for it. And somehow I keep playing the same people over and over again. I go all the way to Dallas and still end up playing Clay.

sux to hear. seems like you have the worst luck going up against the same people, especially ones that consistently beat you or something.

yesterday was definitely fun. weird room choice but we were able to do what was needed to be done haha. then ending it with original smash on the projector made it even more fun.

hylian, bored, how much money did ya'll win?

When should the next meeting be?

Since spring break is basically March 13-21 I don't think we can have a meeting on March 13 or 20. So either we have another meeting this Saturday March 6 or not until Sat. March 27. The problem with this Saturday is it is too late to plan/advertise for any big events, I haven't reserved a room yet, and maybe people will be studying for midterms just before spring break(?). We could still certainly do this Sat. but don't expect a big turnout.

So, who all wants to have a meeting this Saturday?

i think its just best to wait until March 27 to do another meeting. no need to stress ourselves trying to get another meeting underway a week later when we havent reserved a room and such.

we can always have a not-very-formal meeting somewhere if you guys know of any places available. like last time I saw a group of people playing brawl on one of the tv's at jester west. in one of those lounges by the ping pong tables on the first floor. since not many will come, I figure it'll be alright.

oh yeah, and nice games everyone! I remember dean and rawr and jamal, and the guys who were playing free-for-alls with me, hylian and the president and his twin. I don't think I played anybody else other than that. oh yeha, edgar and he beat me for sure, told me something about shine oos and delaying nairs.
I pulled some cool combos on jamal and I wish I could see them and clarify whether they were indeed as cool as I remember them or if it was just the sugar rush 'cause I think they were pretty nice.
nubz and sg and matt and justin and marty and xest didn't arrive, I wanted to play all of them and record matches and ****, but hopefully next time. oh and the guys that played free for alls with me, we should play with items on next time.

I vote we have a meeting this weekend. If not, smashfest at Clay's with recording every match. If not, smashfest at Edgar's with recording every match.

I want to get some videos of my Marth up so I can put it up in the Marth thread and have people critique me. And Jose is fat.

I'll get my recording setup working so we can have two setups this weekend.

Also, Matt, if you want some critique, you could always ask me or Mitch.

If we're going to have a smashfest this weekend anyway I tend to think why not have a Smash Club meeting? Also, Juan sounds like he is willing to have a meeting on Saturday, so he can bring his 3 TVs. I'm going to go ahead and reserve the room.

I want to try using the ticketing procedure to charge a $1 or $2 venue fee at the door instead of for tournament entry fees. Think about what money or free events we should hold. I think those at the top of the list are random char random stage, melee low tier, Brawl-/Brawl+, and bowser challenge.

Student organization policy--we have to use the ticketing procedure to collect money. Except for membership dues.

Thoughts on a new melee ranking for the smash club? I think some things have changed and we're willing to see new rankings so we all know what is generally accepted as the rankings, and it can give us some motivation to go up in the ranks.

1. Mitchell
2. Kal
3. Tirno

I think Tirno is significantly better than Reqy as of now. I've only ever seen Anupam at a meeting once, so he's either very rusty or to the point that we shouldn't consider him anymore. So continuing I guess it would be:

4. Reqy
5. Spike

Then it gets pretty ambiguous here. I think that the next 4 people listed are tied in a sense for 6th place. It's weird because, for example, person A would beat person B consistently, who would beat person C consistently, who would beat person A consistently. So we I don't think a line can be drawn as to dividing these four people (in alphabetical order):

6. Jose
6. MT
6. Noc
6. RedShadow

Though if I had to pick one of the four to say was better, I'd lean towards RedShadow, but who knows? Continuing (just throwing stuff out there):

10. blackfox51
11. Rawr
12. Xest
13. El Queso Grande
14. Shiameyo

etc. etc., something like that. Thoughts?

The main idea is that I think there are significant changes to be made from the current one, namely adding in Michell, and upping Noc & Tirno. I also think I've improved a bit, so shove my bias in there and you get this from my POV.

That's a pretty good list so far
I don't think I've gotten to face Clay and Jamal as much since the first few meetings last semester
But I do take out the "bottom tier" lol
And if we do have something this weekend, it might have to be in the afternoon

I would continue your song Kal, but it wouldn't make sense cuz you're supposed to be Simba, haha.
Scar needs to sing "Be Prepared" on our thread.

I'm gonna be the main event, like no king was before! I'm brushing up on looking down, I'm working on my ROAR!

I don't agree with those rankings, Matt. The first three places I agree with (though I am superior to Mitchell for I am vengeance; I am the knight; I AM BATMAN), but tying a bunch of people for 6th just because they beat each other is nonsense. RedShadow generally places higher in tournament than Noc, and you and Jose have no tournament experience. So the rankings would go:

4) RedShadow
5) Noc
6) Jose
7) Matt

I don't see enough of blackfox to make a judgment call, so I would say Rawr is better. The remainder of the rankings seems fine.

Also, it seems you may be basing this strictly off of smash club tournaments. That's fine and all, but then Mitch and I should be tied for first. Again, recall that I am vengeance; I am the knight; I AM BATMAN.

I was actually basing my idea of the rankings somewhat loosely on smash club tournaments, and then just my personal opinion. I think your idea of the rankings are fair enough, but don't forget Reqy and Spike who I think are 4th and 5th, above RedShadow/Noc/Jose/me.

Smash club meeting this weekend?! I kind of want to record sets against pretty much everyone in the club that's willing to play me. It'll be awesome.

So Kal, you want revenge from Scar for killing your dad three times and want to take your rightful place as king (i.e. the People's Champion)? All I can say is good luck.

The rankings do need to be updated but maybe we should wait until after the meeting this Saturday to change them. Hopefully most of these people will show up and enter a melee singles tournament. This extra set of results would help in determining with greater certainty who is better than who. If Hylian keeps coming to meetings we should probly add him around Edgar's level. And don't forget about Tuco.

Tentatively, the meeting this Saturday will be in WEL 1.316, 5-11pm. (Would start earlier but Juan doesn't get off work til 4pm.)

Edit: We just got some Brawl results so we could make rough Brawl rankings soon too.

I agree more closely with matt's rankings though as kal has said, we've not participated in any tournament lately.
I personally believe matt's better than me, and I think I beat clay and jamal more often than they beat me. playing clay is more difficult for me so I would say that clay is better, but it could just be the falco-sheik match-up that makes it easier to face jamal. I would rank us four as matt, me, clay and jamal.
I do know that my input is pretty much moot since we will have the tourney this weekend, but I thought I'd get my opinion out there. as for the higher rankings, it's all pretty much set I believe aside from edgar and reqy since he's always screwing around in matches.
the last four I think would be rawr, justin, xest, el queso grande/shiameyo, but I don't know who those last two are. santos and nubz are both about rawr's level but they oftentimes don't appear.
oh yeah, and if we have to pay above a 2 dollar fee to enter a tournament, I might as well play everybody on the list and find out where I myself stand without having to show everybody. I'm cheap as hell. and fat.
