You are not worthy!

I'll see if we can find housing in Dallas.

Phase 6 was awesome, looking forward to my next major tourney!

Anyway, the main event for the meeting THIS Saturday, Feb 27th 4-11pm in Welch 1.316 will be a Brawl Singles tournament. Entry fee is $5 and payouts will again be 60/30/10 after a 10% house cut. Maybe the Austin Brawl community will come and show us a thing or two about this game? (Please?) Otherwise, my twin JR5, who is finally coming to a meeting, will win this too easily heh.

Side events (not involving money) that will most likely happen are:
-Melee random char random stage or low tier tourney
-Brawl doubles (so I can team with my bro and to give Brawl players another reason to come)

Other possibilities:
-Brawl+
-Brawl-
-Melee singles/doubles

Well... what are you expecting the turnout to be, and how will the prizes be given out (like, will they be gift cards/whatever)? Also, what time would this start/end? Lastly, what are the stages/ruleset for this tournament (double elim., etc)?

Just curious because there's a tournament in San Antonio this weekend as well, so I have to choose between them.

Start time will be 5pm. Prizes are not gift cards but cash. I am not sure about turnout seeing as we don't often have Brawl tournaments but there will certainly be more than 15 entrants. It will be double elimination. The ruleset will be pretty standard, I think just like Phase 6. Except MK is banned...haha kidding.

PhantomX, I'll be running the event, and I can make it go quickly if necessary. We'll have at least 4 Barlw setups, and it's just a matter of announcing match-ups on particular TVs and not allowing friendlies. I'd guess we can end it by 7:00 if everything goes well.

I'll try to get those of our group who aren't going to San Antonio to drop by, especially if it's a quick/short tournament.

Correction: the meeting will NOT be in Welch 1.316. It will most likely be in WCH 1.120 but I will announce the room as soon as I get confirmation.

Alright cool, isn't that across from the Shell Auditorium? It's mostly chairs and no tables... but I'm sure we can make that work

Make sure that the school doesn't catch wind of this, b/c I'm pretty sure they disallow cash payouts as it's considered gambling for some stupid reason.

Taken care of already.

I did send an event proposal for a pot tournament to SALD and they basically approved it. However, we cannot avoid the rule that, when collecting money on-campus, we must use the rolled ticketing procedure.

So here's how we can run money events:
1. Fill out ticket request form and pay $1 for a pack of a hundred tickets Friday before the event.
2. At the meeting, tear in half one ticket per $5 entry fee collected. Save the stubs and keep money in locked drawer.
3. Once the tourney finishes, one officer (I can do it) pays in cash out of his pocket the prize amounts to the top finishers. This would probably be 1st-60%, 2nd-30%, and 3rd-10% of the pot after we take into account a 10% house cut for the club.
4. After the event, we return all ticket stubs to student organization bank and deposit all the entry fees into our account.
5. The officer that gave out the cash prizes gets reimbursed from the club account.

It's basically similar to the way we did the last money event but we would spot the winners their cash prizes, we would not need to bother with getting gift cards in advance, and the club is guaranteed to profit somewhat.

So, not the simple pot tournament procedure I was hoping for but it's an improvement over the old way.

Hey guys, I can bring another brawl/melee setup again if you need, but I still need the lens cleaner for my Wii, or the iso file for brawl. I'd rather not send it back to Nintendo with the possibility of them wiping my homebrew just to play brawl. Even if they didn't... I'm lazy.

Yeah, I specifically checked with a student organization policy advisor to make sure we were not breaking any rules with this type of event. Really, the only thing we aren't allowed to do is collect money for an event without using the ticketing procedure.

Alright cool, isn't that across from the Shell Auditorium? It's mostly chairs and no tables... but I'm sure we can make that work
Yes, it's across the street from WEL 3.502. It has one or two tables but we will have to borrow more.

Haven't sent out an email yet but will as soon as I get final confirmation of the room, which should happen tomorrow/thursday since they already kinda indicated that WCH 1.120 is available.

You guys ever do any on campus advertising for events?

Also, I just brought up the gambling thing b/c I didn't want anyone to get banned, lol. We have a nice symbiosis going.

I posted that one vid on my account where I did that epic fsmash to knee on your pikachu, lulz.

Yes, we put up fliers in various buildings around campus. Trouble is most Barlw players here are casual/noobs and don't want to enter tournaments.

I put up flyers in Burdine, RLM, TX Union, and Welch Monday. Now that we got the room finalized we'll post more and I'll send out email to members. We've never advertised a Brawl tournament like this so hopefully we'll draw in a good turnout.

I wonder if anybody would/could/should do commentary for the Brawl matches we record...

Hey Budget Player Cadet, do you have an estimate for when the latest Brawl- alpha will be released?

Mitch and I can commentate. I don't know **** about Barlw, so there's a good chance I'll just point out how much I dislike the game instead of provide insight.

I'm quite sure Kal commentating Brawl would be hilarious. I have some concern that some Brawl players might be offended by it though lol. Well, if anybody doesn't like it they can mute it. And it's ok if it's not incredibly insightful; I think many of us are more interested in entertaining rather than informative commentary.

Yes, but you see, I posted on GameFAQs once asking for a critique on my commentary, forgetting to explain that it's not really commentary, but me yelling. And you see, they got upset, and I promised to try and commentate better next time.

Then again, Barlw ****ing sucks. TEEHEE

Kal should commentate, then preferably also someone who doesn't hate Barlw.
It'd be nice if Hylian showed up for that... *hint*

Hey if I watched Barwl videos i'd want to have some insight to the gameplay and strategy since I don't really know anything.

But I don't watch Barwl videos.

I believe Hylian is going to Mizuumi Con on Saturday. But if any people in the Austin Brawl community that are coming are up to the task of doing commentary, that would be cool. Totally optional though.

True, people that take Brawl seriously would be interested in insightful commentary. So, in case such people watch these vids, it would be good to sprinkle some thoughtful analysis here and there between the entertaining stuff e.g. sarcasm and yelling. We do want to show respect for Brawl as a competitive game. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to pretend it's your favorite game heh.

Yeah, don't worry. If I commentate, I will provide commentary as insightful as possible. Just nonsense speculation.
