UK South and South West Thread (Brawl and Melee)

I don't agree with Charles's attitude, it's typically scrubbish sometimes. Thinking it's way above it's actual standing. I know I'm a good smasher but I'm not going to claim I can beat Armada yet.

If you watch back the videos of me vs Charles you can see which of us was making more errors and which one didn't really know what was going on. If you watch me or prof vs Edwin you'll see us both adapting and ****** him. Edwin really didn't know what to do against my Peach in the 3rd match and you can see it.

Charles has the wrong attitude, he ranks people by how well they do against him. i.e. Edwin can beat him in friendlies therefore edwin is the best other than him.

To me it indicates a lack of understanding of Melee. Charles has demonstrated a few times that his knowledge of the game falls short of mine and many others in the community but he still knows how to win and is a very confident and clutch player. His tech skill is fluid and he doesn't **** up or fall for things easily, it's how he beat Adam I assume. Just went about his business.

Prof understands the game better than Charles, not perfectly but still to a high degree, probably sees a lot that I don't. I understand the mechanics of melee to a very high level and I also understand options in a way that I believe most of the UK smashers don't even know about. Smash is more than just a game, the option approach is the way you must view the game to be successful and until you can analyse your every movement you won't be reaching the pinnacle.

IMHO its only a matter of time until my tournament play is consistent enough to do justice to my real skill, we'll see how things turn out then. I believe that Prof has more global potential than Charles until Charles can adjust his attitude. The problem behind this lies in that if Charles changes his attitude he'll be less confident, a vital part in his 3 years of UK dominance.

Also: Peach is not my best character xD

Haha, nah, I'm good on that front - if I ever bother getting a PSP I'll MM you on it once I'm sure I'm better than you. I'd give it maybe two weeks tops after actually getting the game...

I'm still happy to MM anyone at guitar hero or tetris DS, though I guess the first is pretty unlikely to happen at any monthly any time soon...

Also, I love the fact that everyone in NTSC goes on about 'omg, how do I do that 3 jab combo with falcon?!?!?!?' PAL is clearly the superior version.

Charles did this against me as well.
Because Edwin was beating him when he went fox and also with his main character this meant Edwin was the second best in the UK and I stood no chance lol.
And when he made a ranking list he placed Edwin above me, despite me going to every tournament and placing top 2 and Edwin not going anything since ALT....he just went round his house, had a few friendlies, and all of a sudden Edwin is the second best in the UK and also apparently the best marth player in Europe lol
He still sees Edwin as a better player then us despite both of us beating him

I went to maining falcon recently, my confidence level dropped but it was a good step imo instead of just having an ego with chars and not knowing how to play one solidly (look at mango with his jigglypuff..good example >_>). I had about 2 months of feeling like I'm not gonna win but tried so hard to up my game..you can see the improvement from the first tournament I used falcon. I still honestly don't feel confident with falcon yet.

Of course I'm still making a lot of mistakes with my new main (infact a lot in that set, such as up throwing peach and mistiming on baiting her n air sometimes).. lets see you main a char for 1/2 a year and do amazing kthnx.
Or how about try falcon and see how hard it is at high level, I still find it funny you're saying I dont know much about the game after maining falcon and still winning tournaments + beating one of the best players in europe in a tournament set?

Also I just read charles's post properly and it's a huge testament to everything I was saying.

Charles is the UK no1, representing us as a community. His attitude comes off badly in Europe, i.e saying he can beat people he has no hope of beating. Also patronising and talking down to his competitors in the UK is pretty bad form, it's not "trashtalk", it's ignorance.

The reason I say you don't know much about the game charles is that you say things like "try buffering your grabs, I didn't know about it until recently". Then you'll say things like "my peach game was off". These imply that you don't really understand Melee nearly as well as you think you do. OBVIOUSLY, you know what you're doing, you know what works to an extent like I said in my original post and I said that's how I believe you beat Adam.

Anyway there's really no point in me posting things like this as it seems most of the community are oblivious to it, I believe prof knows exactly what I'm talking about. When you reach a high level and your comptetion is saying things about you like "i ***** him" when it was last stock every game or "he's ****, I only got taken to 3-2 because I was playing ****" then you'll understand that this kind of disrespect is really unhelpful in a lot of ways.

From my point of view: I've lost to Prof the last 2 tournaments. The first time I'd say I wasn't playing my best, I lost. He was mentally stronger when it counted. I would say at PH2 I was playing a lot better than I ever have in tournament and he still beat me. I can do better, I had chances against both Prof and Charles but I'm still working on getting my tournament play up to scratch. It's not helpful for Charles to be disrespectful about whatever happened in tournament by marginalising the games we had.

Bill: it's like if I said to you, I was sandbagging completely in every game we played and I still 3 stocked you. It's not really worth me saying that is it?
