Belated but Bloated shoutouts:
RJ - Congratulations. I was barracking for you to win the whole weekend and I'm really glad you pulled through. A lot of people still don't rate you as one of the top players in the country, but I definitely hold you in high esteem and I think your placing a tier below ZXV and Ted on the NSW rankings is a crime. I love everything you do with Peach and the consistent spacing on your aerials winning clutch situations is great to see. Nonetheless I hope to improve and take a set off you soon
Can't wait to meet again (and next time, we'll play!)
ZXV - Too good at too many games. Great mindset. Always a pleasure to watch you play and play against you, although I didn't really have the mindset of a competitor in our tournament set. Really love the Brawl friendlies
I really enjoyed those friendlies they were definitely a highlight of the weekend. Pity my GnW is dead though. Thanks for housing people and being super cool the whole weekend and for talking to me about problems I was having with Melee. It would totally be worth coming up for a local sydney tournament if I could hang out with you and summoner on the days surrounding the event.
Summoner - Wrecked a lot of VIC dudes in PM. Big dong so strong w3w~
Thanks a million times for the housing, Milo and more importantly infinite kindness and willingness to put up with everyone and everything for the whole weekend. You were super welcoming and I hugely appreciate that. The weekend was a breeze. Jared, Kai and I were hooked up with everything we needed the whole weekend.
To ZXV & Summoner
Thanks a hundred times, thankyou forever over and over one hundred times forever, thankyou.com one hundred times forever.com,
www.thankyouonehundredtimesoverandover.com forever, thankyou.
Jonas - Was great to play a few friendlies with you. Wish I could play against your fox a bit more though, it seemed a bit more on point at the time. I really appreciate your Fox; you are a lot more aggressive than a lot of Australian fox's and it works because you are more consistent and a bit smarter. So it was a lot of fun to watch and to play against. Good luck in your travels!
Jared - Thanks for putting up with me the whole weekend. Melee doubles was the only thing motivating me to bother to push through the mood that I was in and I'm glad that we could pull together as a team for it and deliver what I knew we could. Nicely played from you overall too, it was a great performance; against Syke, Myself and Jonas you played really quite well. You really took it to Jonas game one, if you'd have won it I think the next games would've been closer too.
man we bodied everyone in doubles
we're so ****ing good
puff & fox are so ****ing good
I felt like this paragraph would be longer than it is; basically thankyou for making the entire trip, it was a very shared experience. <3
Shoutouts to all the Roadtrip crew
Daniel for driving for a collective 20ish hours total without killing all of us, with the added bonus of totally safe shennanigans such as driving against traffic in a Truck car park, Entering ZXV/Summoner's driveway through the exit, Snaking, and safest of all, allowing Limp Bizkit to play in the car.
Matt for being Hearthstone master and throwing games against me in PM so that my world got turned further upside down.
Congrats to both of you for winning ALL the marbles.
But one day, there will be a rematch. Your skills will be tested again. And perhaps the marbles will.... change ownership?
Bonus shoutout to Sarah
Spud - Good stuff studying matches on youtube each night, especially before a tournament. I used to do that, don't know why I stopped. I'll be doing my research again from now on thanks to this reminder. Bad luck about the Sheik and Peach matchups. I think you already plan to do this but just in case, it's probably better if you worked on your Marth more for the MU's than having a pocket Falcon. At the very least, in the short term your Marth is still oh so crisp.
Good games across the weekend, happy I could make you salty too a few times.
We'll probably money match next time, I think I'm feeling it
Syke - aww yissss
great to see you there, definitely improved the weekend heaps for me <3
GG's in doubles too, hella fun. Shame about the SD's but I support your Fox pick in the last game. I think it was a smart choice.
Unreon - Always good to see you and play against you.
Interesting that you switched to Falco in losers bracket for doubles. Atticus and I both feel like your Link gave us more trouble than RJ did. It's really difficult to navigate around Link on the stage while trying to deal with another opponent. Your Falco was still really solid the whole weekend though, but idk I think the Link was working tbh. And in my opinion, Falco is not great in doubles, especially if he isn't teaming with a Fox. As far as tier lists go Link and Falco are probably pretty close on the "teaming with Peach in doubles" one.
Either way, the set against you and RJ certainly felt like the closest doubles set for me, and was my biggest achievement of the weekend. I did a little fist pump when we won haha. Thankyou very much for the experience. GG's.
Good friendlies too though, and good work defeating Blaxxon in Singles! You seemed to pretty on point across the weekend.
Ted - Was hoping to play, but Kai deprived me of the opportunity to do so in bracket. Would've been nice close games. Hope that you're planning to stay with us and enter more Sydney tournaments when you have the time. Good to see you anyhow and talk about how Cal is insane.
Joe and Seb - Good to chill with you guys at Toms. Shame we didn't play much Joe but we both got wrecked by Spud heaps which was fun hey? Seb glad you understood the hype of the Korean game show (The Genius) and thanks for showing me the Dota 2 Immortals. I have the TA one now <3
Oh and grats on 9th Joe. The set against Unreon must have been a close one; he was playing good that weekend.
Atyeo - thanks for being a big enough dude to authorise the car lift and socialise even if you think I'm a ****. smash censor lets you fill in the blanks with whatever you prefer. Get rekt by VIC btw
Gman - why didn't you enter Smash 64
Shaya - Good to see you for like, half a minute. I blame myself for not messaging you letting you know I'd be coming up for a few days. Would've liked to spend a day together. I was rooting for you to win Smash 4, perhaps you would've if I'd been there to watch the matches and lend energy.
Kai - You were keen to have a tournament where you didn't have to worry and then you spent a lot of time giving stream tips, commentating and complaining about WTFox stream overlay. You can't get away from it. Whole weekend was pretty rad I could say heaps of stuff but congrats on defeating Ted. Didn't choke yourself out of a win, against one of NSW's best. That's a notch in the belt.
Gabe - Too bad I lied, I'm still gonna use GnW in Melee sometimes I'll take the Best GnW AU title back thankz
Zorsy - Chilli Chicken forever. I saw Lovage nearly drop a game to some Yoshi called SwiggitySwooty at EVO. By the looks of it you would've beaten Lovage. You're the only person who I feel feeds off his low tier to do better, but also suffers at the same time. So I thought about this to try to make something productive of it. Your offensive game of using Yoshi's ridiculous unique strengths (he's the best in the game at several niche things) is tight and getting better, just needs more consistency on punish game and understanding zones - stay at a space in neutral where if the opponent misses an attack you can punish. too often you're in Egg or already jumping the wrong way so you can't always punish. But too often you get caught out and played for Yoshi's weakness of no double jump and getting combo'd hard by Falco. Granted Falco is ******** but you could do better. aMSa seems to do a good job of making Yoshi look like he has a decent recovery. He factors the risk reward of getting hit out of double jump better. Think about all these things to do with recovery like SDI, DI and Teching. I think you're great at killing me when you get the combo (consistency there will come) but it's too easy to kill you. Never stop playing Yoshi.
I was planning to just do a one liner but ended up being hype for your Yoshi instead.
Here's the one liner anyway
p.s. thanks 4 chicken
Ignis - Congratulations on repping Victoria incredibly well. You played the game with a lot of courage and creativity. It's a shame not all of the plays you did worked out, but Waveguider is very skilled and intelligent himself.
Extra - Grats to you for also doing very well. Be interesting to see if you can improve on consistency and become one of VICs top players soon.
Deez - I'm really proud that you travelled out of state and represented yourself and Victoria at Smash 4 in NSW! Despite being relatively new to competitive smash, you and the other Smash 4 guys who travelled had the confidence to travel interstate and I think that's pretty cool. Hope you can keep working on your Melee game too haha, sorry I haven't been able to teach you much though
Also our 64 set was heaps of fun! It took me a moment to remember how to fight against Kirby, but the first few games were heaps close and heaps of fun. Would love to see you playing more 64.
Phibzy - I loved talking to you about 64 and playing you. You were a super nice dude and the Pikachu wasn't too shabby either. Glad you took home the money! I had so much fun playing that I'm kinda toying with the idea of paying for an adapter...
Gords - Thanks heaps for hosting this event. I really appreciate that you made this event happen and went through with running it. I also really liked that you allocated 1st seed vs 2nd seed matches in pools to be played on stream. Even though you missed some, I think this is a great procedure instead of just watching one dude demolish his whole pool.
I don't disagree with some of the complaints (seeding is the main thing to work on imo) but at the end of the day not only did you make the tournament happen but you also made it end and finished the whole event, even despite unfortunate obstacles you faced. Tournament was super worth the trip to Sydney, and you deserve a pat on the back from everyone.
Our tournament sets were a lot of fun too.
Despite what commentators say in the match, the GnW pick in Melee was not at all disrespect. I wasn't feeling Falco and I was also hoping you'd bring out your Zelda. I loved the GnW vs Zelda games we played at BAM in the hotel room and I wanted more!
Our 64 set was hella fun too, but you really pulled a Gords by bringing the wrong adapter though
Again, thankyou for hosting and congrats on a successful tournament.
Jamwa - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Macky - Good for you to get that out of state experience. It'll allow your first VIC breakout performance this weekend to be all the more huge. Can't wait to see what you do with the game. Let me know next time we can boot camp. Ready as ever apart from the upcoming Uni.
Mytus - Good to see you and your smile! Thanks for commentating a few games it made some of the sets a bit more enjoyable to rewatch. Sheik dittos were heaps of fun and very motivating! I'm loving her so much and have gotten wayyyy better with needles and UpB
She's a keeper!
DonB - I know you ain't gonna take this poor performance lying down. You have to do better next time, anything less than better will not suffice. see you on dat grind son
btw I was going to eat KFC in front of you while you played against Wibbles after you ate Subway in front of me vx. MC.
But I realised me doing it to you in melee while you did it to me in PM was not a fair trade
PCG - Grats on beating Kai and Joe. You got dat fine Falco prac under the belt. Apparently you didn't get a lot of practice while you were living in Sydney but I feel like you've improved heaps, playing you since you've been back at Mackys etc.
Keep coming round for short sessions. Short but regular and relaxed. Hope you are able to keep playing despite falling further and further into the illness of having a job.
Scabe - Congrats on huge wins all around. idk if you play a lot but I think it's pretty obvious from your ability to win games with Link in Brawl that you're just straight up smart and talented. Keep doing upsets and keep saying hi, hope we can one day hang out over lunch at one of these tournaments instead of just briefly.
Cal - Good to see you playing again, for a hot minute it felt like you'd quit. Your QLD results seemed on and off. But glad to see you are still with us and pretty good!
GG's in doubles and I condone your feelings about PM. That game is weird man!
Fudge - Where were you in Melee top 32? I don't think you're spending your Roy heads wisely. Hope you and da boys had a nice trip
Lux - Grats on 2nd in PM. You deserve it for being really good and applying yourself. Just to clarify btw, there was no salt about the Zelda at Noser's meet, it was just a bit too hard for me and I was a bit generally sad anyway.
Max - Thanks for finishing Sunday night off right
GG's in PM doubles Falcon Fsmash too long. You seemed to have a lot of fun this tourney which it seems is what you set out to do, good stuff man!
Meteor - Aww man I really wanted to play you first round. Good excuse to catch up and brief on what's been going on. Congratulations to yourself and Zero for good placings in Smash4
Noser - Thanks for allowing strangers from other states to come to your house to play Smash Bros.! Dunno if the chips and drinks were yours or not but I'm gonna assume they were and give you 10/10 for hospitality. You lost the bonus points round though by not having a toilet seat.
Scraddles - Hey dude sorry for having no advice to give you after pools. Truth is I was depressed the whole weekend, and didn't want to play Melee because I thought it was garbage. I was too upset to be able to make up any sense of neutral game, reads or spacing or anything. It just seemed to be almost random and the only influence I had in the game was to hit people when they messed up and to not kill myself. The beauty of the game and what it is about was lost on me and I felt very deflated. I played on autopilot for most of the singles tournament including in our set. I was planning to money match you after Grand Finals so that I could right this wrong but every TV got turned off pretty much immediately after the tournament ended. Sorry for wasting your time.
