Imagine the scenario.

A train has stopped at the station and a person is getting out of the carriage as you walk towards the door, close to the train. As he gets out, the following situation arises.

He can choose to take the fast route and walk straight along the train. He can choose to go around and let you take the fast route. You can keep going ahead and assume that he'll be polite and go around. Or you can go around assuming he is going to be inconsiderate.

Here is a poor quality diagram that may assist your visual senses imagining such a repugnant event.

train]
train] | \ <- the man i front of the doors choices.
train] | / <- your choices

But here's the problem.
If you both take the route around, then you will meet and apologize to each other id assume and work out a way to get past each other (which, after you **** this up the first time it tends to be easier not to do it again, usually because one person will just stand still after the first time. Well that's what I do.) anyway; the upside is, you both did something nice because you gave space for the other person because you both went around. But you both assumed the other person was going to be inconsiderate. This displays the lack of faith we have in our fellow man, and you would leave such a situation with the knowledge that the man thought you would simply barge forwards and give him no respect. His uninformed opinion of you was set to the default: Very Low.

However if you both take the fast route, assuming the other is going to be nice, then you will have that mildly awkward collision again, and both of you placed faith in each other to do the nice thing. However both of you disappointed the other. You put faith in the other person, only for them to incinerate this respect. He let down your opinion of him, just as you let down his opinion of you likewise. You will both leave the situation having dropped in each others esteems, and both of you marking down each others faith in humanity. You contributed to each others disdain for mankind.

But, what if one of you walks around, and the other takes the bee-line?
Perhaps this is the worst situation of all.
One of you leaves the situation the "betterman" - politely stepping out of the way knowing the person is going to be a ****. This will only lower your opinion of humans because your belief that they will be greedy and walk straight ahead is proved true. Why should they care if they get in your way?
The other person leaves the situation, unwillingly or not contributing to the ignorance, perhaps also the arrogance, that taints mankind. They are the stain. And should they acknowledge the act that has gone down, they would be tormented at the fact another person has in someway shown kindness, and all they did was stomp all over it. They should feel like the lesser person.

This is just an analogy, and it applies in many realms.

So next time you get off the train.
Run away.

what normally happens to me is i say sorry and so do they, and then we both try to swap routes again and we end up just dancing in front of each other.

What's that mean in your analogy splice?

Then you are bad at reads and need to work on your tech-chasing game.

Instead of just dash-dancing in front of them, Rob, knee them.

err
stand on the side of the door that is opposite to the way they have to go
they get off the train, you go in

also, the rule is to let people off before you get on, so obviously you show them the courtesy

I don't think he means one exiting and one entering. I think he is just using the train as an analogy. I think he means in general, when two people are walking opposite directions along a narrow space like on a foot path or something. Think think think.

Either way, I keep left, because I live in Australia.

Dekar; imagine you are walking to the nearest door coz you only just got to the station, and the man has already exited the door and is now standing outside of the train but in front of the door. This is where your situation begins.

As MTG said though, thats not important.

The filth of humanity has already been awakened and condemned you both.

well splice you shouldn't be walking along the train, since it's your duty to give way to those coming off the train

Man up, this isn't about being condemned by humanity this is about you being a ***** and not hitting the guy in the face. What's he going to do/think when he's out cold on the ground?

I got a better story of why we cant have nice things.

two guys go into a local supermarket, get some stuff and go to the counter where a nice young pretty girl is working, and she's obviously new and not in her comfort zone yet, and one guy goes to give his money to the girl, but he accidently drops it onto the counter as their hands meet, the other guy who was watching out of the side of his vision loudly and rudely exclaims, 'good one, drop the money why dont you'
the transaction is complete and the two guys walk out, the first guy just starts lauging as they get outside and turns to the second guy and says 'you ****ing *******, I didnt drop the money, she did...'

**** move huh?

the twist of this story, is that I am the second guy.

deks i dont think you comprehend the situation

and the fact that its about what you do once you've already fallen into the situation
Not about the fact you failed to avoid the situation or succesfully avoided it.

Your like a detuned radio.

Good stuff Luke.

No, guys, we can't have nice things because Adam ate from the Tree of Knowledge while in the Garden of Eden, thus creating the original sin. Its like they didn't teach you anything at school.

now you are getting there! The thing is sometimes they try to give way as well.
Now you see the four possibilities.

or you could be like me, the red mountain, and then it doesnt matter what the **** gets in your way.

also you're wrong there pete, stealing is a sin, so the original sin was some ***** stealing adams rib.

how the **** is he gonna think about whether or not the apple is supposed to be eaten if he's missing a rib and has heavy internal bleeding?

If only Adam was a red mountain, then that ***** wouldn't have gotten in his way, none of that **** would have.

No ribs? No problem.

they should know not to give way since as they are getting off the train it is your right to give way to them... so if they do give way then you can take it since they shouldn't have in the first place

Yep thats exactly it dekar

They give way to you coz they have no faith in your abilities as a human
And you choose to go forward because you like to condemn yourself to hell. Precisely!

if they give way to you then they are correct for having no faith since you were SUPPOSED to give way in the first place

You know splice, dekar is completely correct when he says the person getting on the train must give way to people getting off the train.
It's common courtesy, like keeping left on an escalator.

no, it's broken because you're supposed to give way to people getting off the train
so if you don't give way, whatever altercation occurs is your fault
