Rather be that than someone who sneers and condescends people for not having interest in casual conversation about early 20th century Ethiopian history.
Um hello? I'm talking about rasta posers, which are a dime a dozen around these parts, and why they bug me.

Besides, in that one particular case they were already talking about Bob Marleys song War, which is basically bits of a speech by Haile Sellasie. It's not like I go around randomly asking people if they've ever heard of historical figures and then hating on them for not wanting to talk about it, that's just stupid.

I'm guessing you assume that's what I do, since you are so good at instantly jumping to conclusions and flaming for no reason. The real question is, why are you so mad?

Are you a fake rasta? That'd be a laugh. one love bro.

EDIT:

LOL!!!

Sorry, I didn't even read your whole post.

Disregard this but I'm leaving it here for posterity to remind myself that I'm dumb:

-----

I'm not talking about rastas, dummy.

"Why can't they just go away forever? I have actually been laughed at by a group of these people for trying to bring up what they called "boring history crap" when I started talking about Haile Selassie I, who they had never heard of. Something similar has happened to me when I brought up Marcus Garvey to a different group. Surprise surprise, they'd never heard of him either."

I don't care about rastas. I'm just saying...Why would you bring up Haile Selassie I in what I'm assuming is a casual conversation in the first place? And for that matter, why are you talking to a group of people whom you apparently loathe? Why are you talking to these type of people on more than one occasion? Is it to enforce your intellect and feel superior to some strangers by namedropping historical names that are vaguely related to your assumption of what their lifestyles are and feeling smug when they aren't familiar with the regent in Ethiopia in the 1910s-30s. My bad, you sound like a very pleasant person to know.

I should have just saved my time:

Frotaz, it is YOU WHO IS THE WORST POSTER ON SMASHBOARDSSSS

anyways, besides being dumb I'm kinda down in the dumps because I wish I had a lot more money. Filmmaking is my main passion...but god it's expensive. I should have bought a cheaper camera so I could get more high quality accessories and external equipment.

also I'm trying to figure out a way to get a more stable moving image and it's so frustrating. waaaaaaaa

I think you can make a conversation about Justin Beiber deep and intellectual. It's not so important the factual information so much as the synthesis one can make given the factual information. I know people who try to inject obscure references into conversations and then act superior when others have not encountered said references, be they star wars or ethiopean history. I'm not saynig that's what you do, but you've sure made it sound like that. That said, that's not the anti-intellectual movement I was referring to.

LT, I stumbled upon a video for stable moving shots a few years back. Remind me in a few days and I'll try to find the link (would search now, but I'm currently working on homework, and i shouldnt even be on smashboards...)

Speaking of homework though...venting time!
Intro to Game Development sounds fun...but it's not xD 8am on Fridays. Teacher is too nice, but does not teach a lot. Plus, we've had about 3-4 weeks to completely design a working board game.
And only 2 of those weeks were spent actually constructing prototypes.
This week being one of them.
Which is what I should be doing now.
So difficult! And instead of working in a group, I decided to stick with my own idea, since I got a 100% on my presentation and impressed my teacher. Hoping this will all work out. Well, minus the fact that photoshop is taking forever to install and I'll probably be pulling an all nighter. The game is pretty well developed so far, and is rather simple and cute/fun compared to a lot of my classmates' projects. And, the first prototype had a good test run
But, I'm glad I chose working on my English paper all week opposed to this. This is a LOT easier than what became an 8 page annotated bibliography PLUS another assignment (ranted about PUPPY MILLS. Those make me unhappy too)

Sigh. Silly college.

/stress vent

Gamemaking sounds awesome. I hope that I can get into some of that one day.

Meh, I'm a little unhappy about people I know at school but I don't feel like ranting about it. (but I rant a lot online to my friends anyways lol)
Society will do as it does.

It is, but it's really difficult. What aspect do you want to get into? Game Design? Storytelling? Programming? Art (2D or 3D both included)?

Game design is the act of going in and designing gameplay and whatnot
it's really rewarding and a lot of fun
except when your class is at 8am.
I did finish that assignment....at 4am. And now im exhausted and i have a headache since i need sleep.

Think about it like this...if somebody was wearing a cross around their neck, would jesus be considered an obscure reference?

Ironically, you're exactly the type of person I was lamenting when I mentioned dumb people being anti-other. That's an obvious no. Nobody ever is going to disagree with that statement. In addition, nobody ever is going to wear a cross and not know who jesus is. Did you claim he was a socialist who prolly would have been pretty cool with homosexuality and the other person rebuffed you? Or maybe you're being more metaphorical and you assumed because someone has a nintendo shirt that they have an opinion on melee vs. brawl (*duck and cover*). Anyway, do you understand how that's very different from what you implied in your quote? It's a matter of degree. You know it does you no good to make dishonest arguments in a dispassionate discussion. You are making dishonest arguments. Therefore, you are not interested in having a dispassionate discussion. Well, I'm not interested in having a debate, so I guess we're done.

I don't know why you've made it your mission to pigeonhole me into one of your boxes of judgement, but you seem pretty adamant about it. You seem to be taking way more from my posts than I am putting into them, which is always recipe for disaster. You also seem to be under the impression that I'm arguing with you, which I'm not. I don't know what your problem is with me (besides "UR ONE OF THE DUMBZ IM TALKIN BOUT") but maybe you should stop acting insane and stop using every one of my posts as justification for your narcissistic masturbation.

Nobody ever is going to disagree with that statement. In addition, nobody ever is going to wear a cross and not know who jesus is.
Exactly. If you can understand this...then maybe you can understand why it's ridiculous to me that somebody would wear Rastafari colors without knowing who Haile Selassie is. Or maybe you don't know anything about Rastafari so you have no idea why it would be ridiculous. *shrug* how would I know? All you do is insult me so I don't really have much to go on.

That's different though. Rastafarianism is as much a culture as a religion. It's entirely possible someone likes the culture without the religion. It's like bashing someone for going to an anime convention and not knowing who emperor Tojo is, or someone seeking material transcendence without Siddhartha ringing a bell. Or, to be as hyperbolic as you, I enjoy watching basketball. I do not know who invented the television. That doesn't make me an idiot, does it? There's a large scope of knowledge you expect someone wearing a particular outfit to have. I suspect it is unreasonably large.

Let me make this clear. I don't know you. I only know the words you type. You're being way too defensive about this. I know when someone tells me I'm being defensive, I get defensive about that, and recursion occurs. Hopefully you can be more mature than I am.

On another note, it's impossible to write code when god hates you. It's too late to do anything about it though. I chose the wrong path, and my life is ruined. I'm pretty sure this whole running 100 miles an hour so I don't starve to death on the street in the middle of winter is purely psychological, but pragmatically it doesn't matter. I can't get drugs, because I don't have company insurance yet, and even if I did I can't set aside any time for an appointment. More immediately though, the coworker to my right won't stop sighing. It feels like he's dealing with about an ounce of ****, so he's shoveling it into my 10 lb. pile. I'm guessing everyone feels like that whenever others are inconsiderate, so I'm seeking confirmation, which is absurd because nobody knows me, and you all are from the internet. What the **** am I even doing, lol.

First of all, there is no such thing as rastafarianism.

Second, the religious movement is not separate from the culture. What exactly is the rasta culture when you take away the religious aspect? It's nothing. It doesn't exist. I would wager that the only reason you think that this separation exists is because of these posers that I'm talking about. You can't know anything about rasta culture unless you know about Selassie I, the man that the entire movement is based upon.

I get what you're trying to say with your anime examples but it's not anything like that. It's like I said...it's like wearing a crucifix without ever having heard of Jesus. Sure one could make excuses for the person say "Well it's as much of a culture as it is a religion and they're probably just into the culture aspect" but how ridiculous is that? There is no culture without the religion. They aren't separable.

Actually, you can, as evidenced by the people this whole argument is about.

I'd argue a white man eating a taco and wearing a sombrero doesn't make him part of the mexican culture

What would be the problem here? Maybe they just like the design. They don't have to subscribe to the entirety of the religious beliefs associated with a piece of jewelry. How you think that's any of your ****ing business is beyond me.

It is, but you'll more than likely have a job if you are good at it :D
Most my teachers say that gameplay outranks story in terms of a good game. They're completely right, because there are some games with really cool stories...but tank because gameplay is boring or just really terrible

If this doesn't deserve an infraction, then I don't know what does. Like this isn't even directed at me and I'm still vexed by it. Pretty impressive.

Eighteenspikes, if you want to give people who think Jah is "how Jamacians say yes" the benefit of the doubt, go for it. Besides, it's pretty amusing watching people who live hundreds of miles away vehemently defend people I've known for years :awesome:

I personally love this post. And it has an excellent point. No one can give of all the information of all the things they are WEARING RIGHT THIS MOMENT. You think that is different? Well, tell me where to draw the line, and where all people should draw this imaginary fickle line. Wear what you like and do what you like. I have heard of many people getting annoyed with others wearing clothes that supposedly represent goths that get hate from goths or others because they are "misrepresenting" themselves because they aren't goths. I see it as they misrepresenting them. Symbolism deals with semantics, and that implies subjectivity. Meaning you cannot dictate the symbolism is for someone individually even if it does represent something "officially" for others.

It's like a rich white kid from the suburbs wearing a shirt that says "crips 4 eva" because he heard some snoop dogg songs.

Obviously he can wear what he wants and should do what he likes, but that doesn't mean he's not an ignorant tool.

;)

Where people get NOTHING.
Probably was a grammar nazi.
And the worst poster of all was Alien Vision, I think most of us can agree to that. lol

On more on topic note..I quit smoking..because my lungs are so ****ed up from this cold that I can't breathe and due to no one being available I still have to go in to work today.

And my gf had been doing a little better lately...is now spiraling down again..she refuses to go or do any kind of treatment I just idk what to do on that..nothing helps nothing works...almost seems like just a matter of time..

When I was on vacation for thanksgiving to avoid my family somebody graffitied (take a wild guess) in front of our house. Sadly enough, it was extremely likely to be the kids of our relatives because they were all in the area (which was why we went on vacation). I really hate my relatives, they are such aholes that talk shet about me behind my back(that's the most insulting thing to me). It's sad that I have such horrible relatives on my dad's side and then on my mom's side I have super nice christian relatives. It's not that I hate christians they just hate me..... can I ever win with any of my relatives?

@Sonic: gz on quiting and like I said b4 I wish you luck with her.
