Ness' nightmare was by far my favorite fight in EB the 1st time, or least favorite? IDK I was like 10. These days he is certainly a lot easier at least.

Hey Ness boards, just stoppin by to tell you all I finished my first playthrough of Earthbound today. It was a lovely experience and a great game to play through. Ness' Nightmare was a bit brutal, but otherwise the game wasn't to much trouble.

I had the most ridiculous luck though, had 2 Goddess Ribbons Drop and a Brain Food Lunch drop from Ghost of Starman and Starman respectively with no farming but no Sword of Kings, what the heck.
Well, Swords of Kings has a stupidly low drop rate, can't remember it exactly now, though.
I know I had to meddle with hex codes to get one for Poo.
I'll tell you though, that it isn't worth farming at all...for all the trouble you have to get it by normal means, the bonus it gives to Poo is pretty "Meh".

He's better off with his fists.

Yeah, all the Kid's ultimate weapons have a drop rate of 1/128 (about .78%), but that's the same as the Goddess Ribbon and the Brain Food Lunch from Starman. I didn't bother farming to get the Sword of Kings either, I just thought it was funny how I got two of the same defensive drop but none of the weapons.

I don't see why people would ever bother getting the Gutsy bat. It gives ENORMOUS boosts but the enemy that drops it is literally only on the one little stretch of area before Giygas so you have like no time to use it at all.

Yeah, that.

And it's not like you are supposed to be dealing damage to Giygas by normal means in that fight, either.
It's useful maybe in it's first form, but that isn't too hard to warrant that kind of thing.

Completionist sake, is my bet. I don't care for that kind of stuff, though.

As mentioned before, I really enjoyed Ness's Nightmare. I won that one just barely.

Yeah, it's basically a bragging rights thing. It doesn't boost Poo's offense that much. I tried for it, but gave up after a few hours.

Rosalina is actually one of my favorite match-ups.
Just stay centered as much as possible. It is a hard match-up for Ness, but definitely not impossible. Usually when I fight Rosa in tournament, I rarely rarely use PK thunder for recovering. There has been matches where I have used it once or twice, and Rosalinas are very confused lol.
If you find yourself off stage, save your jumps and try to make it back to the stage as your main goal. Also, never ever go below stage.
If you used your jump and have no option, there are times I just PK thunder from above to try and get back on stage. You might get hit by Rosa, but it's worth taking a hit then to attempt to recover from below and losing PK Thunder or getting dair by her.
Rosalina's like to bait their ariels a lot. Just watch out for her baits, watch out for her habits, and punish if you can.
Also kill Luma if you have to. This past tournament, I fought a Rosa in bracket and once I had Rosa and Luma separated I did a hard fsmash to Luma haha. It definitely makes the matchup way easier. PK Fire works on Luma too, but don't spam it so much obviously.
Other than that, don't take her or let her go to stages like BF or Town. High ceiling stages are definitely your strong point here. CP Kongo if it's legal in your area. You won't get many uair kills on her, which is fine. Tons of empty short hops, and nairs work great against her. If you can run, shield, then short hop oos then you should be good.
thanks for the advice ill try it out :)

The funny thing is, in addition to you not having really any time to use it, it doesn't boost Ness' attack at all if you're at level 99 by the time you get there. Ness' (and all stats actually) attack caps at 255, which is easily obtained at level 99 with just the legendary bat. The only thing it boosts is your guts.

I get it because I'm a perfectionist with OCD.

Heck, my Ness had 247 Offense and was only level 74 at the end of the game with the Legendary Bat. That +125 to Guts is still nice since that gives a near 100% SMAAAAASH rate but Giygas has so little time that's useful.

It's true, you'll crit most of the time, but if you've only got 1 fight left, you might as well just use a sudden guts capsule :p

Still, it feels like such a trophy to have. Like, you went into the past as a robot and killed one of the rarest, most powerful monsters that existed JUST for a baseball bat. Can you imagine Ness hanging that up in his room at the end of the game? XD

I just started mother 1, what is the best way to recover PP ?
Can't find out on the internet
Resting :v The game does have a lot of places to free-rest though, the one with the most being Magicant. Yeah, you'll be going back to that place a lot.
Other than that, the PSI stone is the only PP restoring item in the game, and you can find one relatively early in game (Queen Mary's castle). It has multiple uses before turning back into a normal stone, too, so that helps.

Ok thanks a lot man !
Yeah I've noticed Magicant already but it's a long road to get there. Is there any fast way of traveling ?

Hey guys. I'm starting to think I should make Ness one of my secondaries. I really enjoy this little character, his moveset, and I've started to like him more due to the awesome game he comes from (I need to get it from the Nintendo e-Shop for my birthday...). I was wondering if you guys could give me any tips? Thanks!

Not for now, you get teleport later. I'd say, though, it's pretty late in game.
The another easy teleport you have is Onyx Hook, an item you can get when you are exiting Magicant for the first time. It teleports you back to Magicant, so it's pretty useful when you need to get out of a tedious dungeon and forgot to use a bread at it's start. Or when you need an easy rest.
Other than these, you only got the train, when it's available to you. Obviously, you need to pay that.

I'd say Ness shines in the air. You'll always want to get your opponent with PK Fire, D-throw and then forward aerial. I'd dare say it's a pretty safe and easy combo, and when the enemie's offstage, I always chase after them with PK Thunder (considering it's a safe moment, of course).
Also, if you throw an opponent with >100% when close to the edge, it's a sure-KO.
His bat isn't too good, imo.

OK thanks. I've noticed his Back throw has REALLY good knockback, and that has come in handy against some of my friends. But ANY throw works when near the edge? Also, when you say to chase after them with PK Thunder, do you mean after the mentioned combo if they're off stage, or just if they're off stage in general?

With Ness, focus on grabs and aerials. They are his biggest assets and a huge part of his play. F-throw can gain stage control and does good damage, d-throw can combo into multiple f-airs at low percents and u-air at medium though it is his weakest throw, u-throw leads to PKT juggles and is fairly decent, and b-throw may actually kill below 100% at the edge with rage, but you're probably not going to get many opportunities to grab right on the edge if the opponent is smart.

Ness's ground game isn't in my opinion that good: jab racks up damage, but not outstanding, f-tilt is good defense, but nothing else really, u-tilt is primarily anti-air, d-tilt is next to useless honestly, f-smash is slow, but KO's around 80 at the tip or something and can reflect projectiles. Mainly use this for reflections and hard reads. U-smash is OK, but slow, not too powerful, and leaves you vulnerable. D-smash can kill, but difficult to land, mainly use this when people are on the edge. Dash attack, however, is awesome: good range and power, but it can be punished out of shield. I'll cover PK Fire in the next paragraph.

In terms of special moves, PK Flash is only practical in edge-guarding, and even then it is difficult to use. PK Fire not only does good damage, but it can set up into grabs and even f-smashes, but leaves you very vulnerable if shielded or misses. Really, only use for punishes. It can also be DI'ed out of. PKT1 can juggle opponents and is a good long-range/juggling option. PKT2 can KO around 40, but is very predictable and has a lot of end lag. It is also Ness's recovery move. PSI Magnet heals from energy projectiles. I believe it has a Vaccum effect, but is impractical.

Now covering aerials: N-air is quick, disjointed, and does a good amount of damage. It is also very useful for breaking combos F-air has incredible reach, disjoined, and combos into itself at lower percents. B-air can be a kill move if timed right and u-air can juggle as well as kill, being Ness's 2nd best move for that. But d-air is mostly useless despite the fact it can spike: it is extremely unreliable in that aspect.

Also, nice drawing.

Yeah, I'm talking about the back throw. It's really powerful.

If you get an opening, do PK Thunder when they are offstage. I've already spiked some people in some way doing that <3

Also, pay attention to what PSIBoy said :v He has it more complete.

Thanks for all the info guys. I recently played a VERY good Ness who seemed to rely mostly on what you two have said as his good moves. I do find N-air a bit slower than his other aerials, but I'm starting to enjoy this character. Due to Elezir's combo I now have better use for PK Fire than just using it to get an F-Smash in. Also, thanks for the comment on my drawing PSI. I'm attempting to do all of the characters in this game (including ICies since they were one of my mains), and currently have 8 done (including ICies). I'll probably be popping in and out of this thread to try to learn some more from you guys. Thanks again.

You're welcome. I actually draw a little. I've drawn Ness and Lucas with their Brawl models as the basis, and Toon Link with Smash 4 model. I had the pictures in front of me though, and I haven't really drew using my imagination as the basis before.

Played as Ness, got someone counterpicking Villager against me and they didn't do so hot.

Why do people think that because you can get that gimp with Pocket it's a 3:0 for Villager? I mean it's a free win so who complains :^)

Lol I'm not just saying this for kicks dude, but look me in the eye and tell me that my analysis on most of those moves is NOT correct. A lot of Ness' individual moves WERE nerfed. Again, this is why it perplexes me that he's considered better.
People thought I was crazy, I said the exact same thing to people in person constantly and awhile back.. I'm glad I'm not the only one. BRAWL Ness is definitely better than Smash 4 Ness, it's weird how he's better in this game with all the nerfs. It's good that I can find someone else that agrees with me >w>

EDIT: LOL Sorry I didn't realize this was all the way on page 10.

Well, I don't about Brawl, because I never played that Smash.
But Ness is certainly better now than when he was in Melee:4pacman:

I think it's that a lot of characters were nerfed from Brawl. One big buff he got was losing the dumb grab release stuff, so that's something...

I kinda miss playing Ness and spamming these forums with my EXTREMELY awful Ness play.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV5UHvCUAog as an example. Don't even know if that's a particularly bad one, but it should recommend some bad ones. Watch those if you're feeling down about your Ness.

Also @ Earthbound360 Earthbound360 hello sir! I went by Successor of Raphael and was the resident Zelda main who trolled the Ness forums back in the glory days of Brawl. You were the best Ness I faced so I always liked you. :3

I swear to god the stupidest things happen when I play Smash. :p

Don't intend to flood this chat with video clips or advertise or anything, but I gotta share these lol (and hell not all of these are with Ness so lol)

- I know Lil' Mac ain't an air fighter but...

- Why to not shield PK Flash 101

- Ness used Rage Boosted PKT2! It's Super Effective! [Greninja Faints, insert "YOU WON!" message from Earthbound]

- No words.

- Lil' Mac MU for me in a nutshell lol

- 7.8/10 too unFair

Hope you enjoyed these. xD

Lol @ yoshi8984 yoshi8984 , that fair one was hilarious. Did u save that replay? You should totally send that to Waeel for the community combo vid.
Yeah I still have the replay lol. Unfortunately the community combo vid is Wii U only isn't it?

You have no idea how much I desire to play Smash on Wii U (and with a GC controller). No replay limit of only 64, much smoother aerials, better stages and far easier to record... But money is a struggle. ;~;

Ah darnit. Well you should ask him if you can include it anyways. That's probably the second funniest Ness clip I've ever seen for this game!
