There's indeed a Ness Skype chat. There's a topic for it floating around somewhere. I think Noa. has it in his directory thread too.

Welp, can someone give me tips as to how control PK Thunder in the 3DS? :v
I honestly want to play with Ness more, but this problem drives me crazy sometimes.

And as completely off topic stuff, here goes a video I already shared in the Robin social thread, but I feel a strong need to put it here, too.

It's probably my favorite tribute to Earthbound. <3

That is indeed a great animation. it was in the works for a couple of years, and I can't say I'm disappointed with the results. It just oozes EB love in every second of it.

Just then was the only time I allowed myself to watch all of it, because it wasn't until a couple weeks ago that I finally got past the Cave of the Past and beat Giygas and thus the game, so I wasn't allowing spoilers for myself haha, even though I knew what was going to happen-ish. :p

It was incredible, I can definitely feel the love that went into this <3

I've seen that animation before, but it's so much more emotional now that I've finally beaten that game. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get chills during the final fight and smiled throughout the epilogue.

I think Mr. Itoi actually saw that video and Tweeted something about it, don't remember what he said though.

Hi! Are you in it? I was wondering if it's possible to be added to it! Would love to keep you guys updated over the weekend!
And I'll link anything if I am on stream! I'll be doing a 3v3 thing with MJG too which I am excited about!

Also I never played Earthbound! >__< For shame I know~ But I need to play it since I love Ness so much!

I am in it, but I don't visit it very often admittedly lol. Last time was sometime last year for me.

And you really should play it. It's definitely a worthwhile experience!

Just watched it. I can see why so many love it (I do too). A lot of effort put behind it, and it was really good too.

Ohhh fun:happysheep:
When you do it be sure to share with us.
Also, you should play Mother 3 (if you haven't yet), too, once you complete Earthbound.
Mother 1 I'd say is kinda optional, since it can be crazy with difficulty, random encounters and huge maps that will get you lost easily.
If you want to play Mother 1, though, you should play it before Earthbound, otherwise you may get a bit disappointed. Still has the best soundtrack, imo.

I'll add you when I get the chance (and if no one else beats me to it).

I actually recommend the order 2, 3, then 1 last. I feel like Mother 1 was an enjoyable game for me, but not great for everyone (let's be real, it hasn't aged gracefully). I suggest it only for the REAL Mother fans.

But and EB stream would be awesome. I'd like to see people's reactions to the quirky humor and uncanny twists. I'd like even more to see a M3 stream though, especially if the person going into it is going in blind.

I sent out a Skype contact request of whoever said they made it in the original thread, but if you could add me (skype name is ren0ace) that would also be super cool! :)

Yes! That would be really awesome if you could! I haven't been added yet ^^ I am leaving to Chicago tonight, so yeah!!

And I heard that too! People always told me to start with 2! I heard 1 is very grind-like!
Thank you so much for your suggestions and for the future add to Skype! ^__^ You are awesome!

I am excited to do my best with Ness!! Maybe I can try and play Earthbound while I am travelling up today hmmm! I wonder if I could put it on my 3ds some how *looks into the possibility*

Mother 2 realy is the best game of the series to start with. It is the most famous and after all it is the 2. best among those 3 games

After that I'd recommend Mother 3. It got the best Story and is the longest of the 3 games, so it places between the 1. best and the 3. best of those 3 games

The last (but not least) game to play would be Mother 1. It is the Original, but it might be a bit frustrating to play through, if you don't like the series itself.
So after you've already played the best and the worst game of those 3 games, you're ready to go to play this one.

Just had to do that

I started with M3, but I'd recommend EB to start with instead. It makes you appreciate the in-jokes in Mother 3 more, and Mother 3 spoils you with free healing and some other mechanics like running that EB lacks.

Okay so this gas been bugging me for a while, but the arrangement of the Onett theme annoys me so much OMG. I mean the actual Onett theme from EB.

The arrangement's melody uses the lower pitched line for the melody, not the one a third above, which bugs the **** out of me because well, I kinda just always heard the music in what I assumed was the natural way, where the prominent upper register made up the melody. It's not like it was an obvious accompaniment line, it literally follows in stereo a third above, making it the obvious melody.

I swear for a second I didn't even recognise it was the Onett theme until I listened properly. So salty because I love hat music. It's weird though, I've heard other renditions of it played the same way, is there something fundamentally wrong with my ears or are people just unable to hear that line? Lmao

Manfred von Karma, what are you doing here

I...never really paid attention to it?
And even now while listening it from youtube I can't really say I get it ;p Sorry, I absolutely have no talent in music for perceiving that, I suppose.
Maybe you have Absolute Pitch? ;p

Yeah, it sounds almost exactly like EB's original version to me, just a bit quicker-paced and with a guitar in it (plus Snowman at the end, obviously).

Set it to a higher quality and listen to your left earphone clearly from 0:10 You'll hear the melodic line I'm talking about.

Omg I know exactly what you mean XD

In the original Onett theme in EB, there are 2 pitches in which the "melody" is played, one is the main tune while the other is supposed to be the accompaniment. I primarily heard what I assume most people regard as the accompaniment being the main melodic tune. Our brains are probably perceiving the melody and accompaniment as flip flopped.

I still don't hate the theme, but it does strike me as odd that they use the lower pitch, just because I've trained myself to hear those higher notes as the main tune. I have a similar problem with the song "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons because I heard the Pentatonix version first, in which their harmony is just as prominent as the main melody. So when I hear the original, it sounds liek it's being sung at a different pitch.

@ Earthbound360 Earthbound360 duuude... **** the haters, they probably only think that line is the melody because it's on guitar. How you gonna have an accompaniment line a third above the melody?

In any case, even if it is supposed to be an accompaniment, the fact that it isn't there at all bugs me :(

I've found some more information about Mother 4 fangame here.

So here's a list of everything we learned from Zane, Dave, and the rest!

  • The flag in the trailer is the Pleiades flag. It's meant to look American, and Pleiades is pronounced Play Uh Deez.
  • The Modern Mind is not the final boss.
  • The PSI lists shouldn't be considered final.
  • Party members ARE dragged around when out of HP
  • Every town has their own daytime and night time music
  • To quote Dave: As long as Travis has a bat, he has a chance to hit back a projectile launched at him. Things like lasers, rocks, comets, rockets, and so on. It's an unscripted event that occurs with low probability.
  • PK Beam is gonna get revised AGAIN
  • Balancing is still being done
  • NO portable ports
  • There are side quests or "errands" to do for NPCs
  • The references will mostly come from the 60s and 70s
  • NO MEMES
  • Still no confirmation if it's a sequel or a prequel despite taking place in the 70s
  • Only Travis can use Telepathy
  • The way you spend your turns in battle is apparently "pretty important"
  • No loading screens
  • No artificial retro
  • Staying true to the feel is always important to the team
  • Boom Town Special is Boom Town's daytime theme, Boom Town Lounge is its night time theme
  • Some of the dev team started five years ago
  • The game as it is only started 2 years ago
  • The game would be called Mothra 4 if it gets a C&D
  • No confirmation either way regarding open source
  • 4th D Slip can be used to access new places on the overworld
  • Meryl saw a future event involving her, Travis, Floyd, and Leo.
  • You mail postcards to save
  • You get money in the mail
  • No word on how early the email list will get their copies
  • Leo's favorite thing really IS dish washers
  • Groovy builds up when you eat food or take damage. Almost everything else decreases Groovy, like eating bad food or getting sick or taking damage.
  • Floyd's ability is to talk to enemies
  • Sometimes he will chat, sometimes he will bribe, sometimes he will perk up a party member
  • Chatting wastes turns for Floyd and the enemy
  • Bribery makes the enemy leave
  • Rogg is still in but being redrawn!
  • Hotel floors are being fixed
  • Whether or not the Modern Men are human is an enduring question in the game
  • The party interacts
  • The girl on the street corner is based on old Meryl
  • When looking back at the old blog, it's best to assume that what's being spoken about is no longer there.
  • Town life was never really a feature?
  • Different NPCs and Enemies between day and night
  • Enemies with different designs between Mother games are getting new designs but not things like Ramblin Evil Mushrooms
  • Coal and Hydro power are popular in Pleiades
  • Leo is bad to the bone
...Why I am so hyped for a fangame?:roll:I know I shouldn't, but heck, it's difficult when there's all these awesome information.

oO Heck, after reading it I actually noticed that, and now I can't stop hearing that odd note:sadsheep:
Why?:urg:

It took me awhile but I totally understand what Teran's talking about with the music. Speaking of, Omega Onett should be the only legal stage.

I'm not going to listen for the error so that I can enjoy the song, not unhear an error which ruins part of the song for me.

Guys, I've had enough. I'm going to make a full PK Fire video guide. I'm absolutely sick of bad players and Ness noobs claiming that PK Fire x100 into bat is a 0-death on every character. I'm going to go into the weaknesses of the move, how to get out of it, and its limits.

However, this is NOT just going to be for those scrubs. That's just part of the deal. In addition to the list of ways to get out of it, I'm going to list punishes for us Ness players to exploit that I feel work reliably. For example, when characters with fast jabs constantly jab you, you can toss another PKF their way. Or when Zelda Nayru's Loves it, you can tipper a dash attack and get an aerial follow up.

On top of that, I'm going to give a rundown on optimal follow ups and knowing how and when to use each one, as well as some PKF ATs. I'm tired of seeing Ness players PKF someone and charge a bat, only to miss completely, or use an aerial PKF and not lag cancel it, dying to something they shouldn't have.

It might take a while, but I'm pretty set on doing this now.

Hey guys! Wanted to give you an update!
So I got 1st in 3v3, 5th in doubles out of 45 teams, and 13th out of 125 in singles all Ness. There was a mishap with seeding in singles, so I kind of got underseeded but still 13th not bad! But I managed to go all Ness which is awesome! And was recognized a lot on stream! (Yay Ness getting tons of rep!!)
Hopefully they'll upload the videos on YT but it is on their stream!

Also, ;__; wish I could have spoke to you guys during the tourney. There were some questions I was wondering during the tourney. (i.e. ROB matchup).

It seems like maybe there isn't an active Skype chat? If so I'd love to start one where we are active! I think it would be cool to kind of chat with each other during tourneys and help with each other and give advice!
I guess I am saying this because there is a ROB in my carpool that is in a ROB Skype chat, and they're all really close and give advice to each other during the Skype chat all the time. They also just talk about ROB tons, make ROB art for each other, and play each other all the time. It would be an awesome way to strengthen the Ness community and to make sure we can continue to get better in our placings!
I know there is the Ness Skype chat but it seems like it's not being updated or people not being added. I don't mind adding everyone if it meant starting a new one or getting an active one at least!
Or is there not many Ness mains to begin with? x__x
Sorry, just wondering!

I totally want Ness to go all strong and would love to support each other! (= Thanksss!

if rosa uses down b after you PKT then she might hit you with it and you can get a second chance.
otherwise just avoid being forced to use PKT2, if you have to, go as far away as possible. also try to make her KO you outright instead of via a gimp.

Rosalina is actually one of my favorite match-ups.
Just stay centered as much as possible. It is a hard match-up for Ness, but definitely not impossible. Usually when I fight Rosa in tournament, I rarely rarely use PK thunder for recovering. There has been matches where I have used it once or twice, and Rosalinas are very confused lol.
If you find yourself off stage, save your jumps and try to make it back to the stage as your main goal. Also, never ever go below stage.
If you used your jump and have no option, there are times I just PK thunder from above to try and get back on stage. You might get hit by Rosa, but it's worth taking a hit then to attempt to recover from below and losing PK Thunder or getting dair by her.
Rosalina's like to bait their ariels a lot. Just watch out for her baits, watch out for her habits, and punish if you can.
Also kill Luma if you have to. This past tournament, I fought a Rosa in bracket and once I had Rosa and Luma separated I did a hard fsmash to Luma haha. It definitely makes the matchup way easier. PK Fire works on Luma too, but don't spam it so much obviously.
Other than that, don't take her or let her go to stages like BF or Town. High ceiling stages are definitely your strong point here. CP Kongo if it's legal in your area. You won't get many uair kills on her, which is fine. Tons of empty short hops, and nairs work great against her. If you can run, shield, then short hop oos then you should be good.

Hey Ness boards, just stoppin by to tell you all I finished my first playthrough of Earthbound today. It was a lovely experience and a great game to play through. Ness' Nightmare was a bit brutal, but otherwise the game wasn't to much trouble.

I had the most ridiculous luck though, had 2 Goddess Ribbons Drop and a Brain Food Lunch drop from Ghost of Starman and Starman respectively with no farming but no Sword of Kings, what the heck.
