Woke up in the middle of the night so I have no filters, so I'm gonna drop a hot take.
I legitimately don't know why people care about box office performances, especially not to this degree. A movie making a buck at the box office means jack **** for its quality, if anything a lot of box office hits get completely forgotten, and you don't need to look any further than the highest grossing movie of all time, Avatar, to see that I'm right. I feel like the only time it comes up at all is when people talk about how forgertable it was.
To me, box office numbers just serve to reaffirm how ****ed the entertainment industry is, because 99% of the time it's Disney leading the charge, which is owed in no small part to their monopoly. And even when it's not, original IPs rarely get very far ahead, it's always either reboots or other comic book movies. The only exception I can think of, ironically, is the aforementioned Avatar which again, no one ever talks about.
So yeah, I don't get why people make such a huge deal out of box office numbers. Especially Marvel fans, I think it would be more interesting to see a MCU movie fail to make it's budget rather than succeed, because they always suceed, and due to the oversaturation I frankly don't think we're too far from when it starts happening.
