Looking at the release date, the delay makes sense
Early April of next year seems pretty barren when it comes to notable releases, with little to no real competition box office wise
Meanwhile it's initial Dec '22 release would've had it the week after Avatar 2

Actually... when was the last time Illumination made a bad film? The Lorax? Minions was just mediocre, but Rise of Gru actually looks damn good.

I can't just see Jack Black doing a deep gruff voice.
They should've went with someone who could.
Such a cast feels so out of place. Chris Pratt I can at least see doing a decent Brooklyn accent for Mario.

Somehow I'm not surprised considering we have not seen any form of advertising since the cast reveal.

They should've went with DreamWorks Animation instead of Illumination. Then again they could always get them to do a Kirby or Splatoon adaption, the latter especially feels like it'd work as a DreamWorks film given its artstyle.
Unless they end up delaying it agian.

I don't feel Bowser necessarily needs a gruff voice. I feel for an Illumination movie, Jack Black could actually work out as a more comedic Bowser pretty well.

Super hot take, the animation fandom weirdly overhates on Illumination big time.
They've made some solid films (The entire Despicable Me trilogy is solid, and I actually liked Sing) And most of their lower stuff is still 5/10-6/10 material.
I like to assume people are just sick of Facebook moms spamming minion memes, so they need to vent their frustration somewhere

When I look at Bowser and the way he sounds and how he especially talked at the end of Super Mario Sunshine, a gruff deep voice is exactly how I'd picture him talking like.

The Despicable Me films are genuinely good films for some reason. I've rewatched Despicable Me and Despicable Me 3 a couple times (I had nothing better to do and they weren't showing anything better) and it's been enjoyable each time.

Honeatly, one of my biggest issues with the animation community is that just can't let things go. In the example of Illumination, yeah Minions was mid but... it was also 7 years ago, Illumination has made better films. Please, let it go.
There's also the issue of realizing that some movies are just not made for them. When minions came out, I was a little too old for it, I hated it, despised it, but I remember a couple years later I was at a family friends place and her kids+their friends (all a bit younger than I am), loved it and talked about it. And it hit me: it wasn't made for me, so I should let it go. Sometimes, things are just for kids and that's ok.
Now how it gained a massive Facebook following is beyond me.

As a counterpoint: Helen Mirren.
(Jack Black's definitely got the comedic chops, especially if Bowser's handled similarly to how he's written in Paper Mario, and his voice seems deep enough.)
