October is setting out to be an exciting month for me.

Getting back to work again at both jobs, movies I'm looking forward to (No Time To Die, Halloween Kills, The Last Dual, Dune, Last Night in Soho), the final fighter being presented not to mention it being the month of Halloween so getting around to watching my Halloween traditions (Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark). Not to mention by then I'll be getting a new therapist to talk about my issues I'm currently experiencing which will hopefully improve my life.

I'm looking into this homophobic Chris Pratt thing and all I can find is this "guilty by association" thing were some execs and is church were homophibic and so he supposedly must be as well.

Am I missing something here?

I just still can't picture and imagine Chris Pratt and Jack Black as the voices of Mario and Bowser.

They are great actors don't get me wrong but I just can't see how Jack Black could manage to do the deep low-tone voice of that of Bowser we've heard and seen in the games and Chris Pratt, his voice just doesn't really match of that of Mario's...

They still feel rather out of place IMO.

Yeah, can Chris Patt even do an Italian accent, at all?

Who knows though they might just surprise us.

Also Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong...I guess it fits given Donkey Kong is sometimes depicted as kinda stupid. Also expecting it's just gonna be a minor appearance like the characters briefly coming to his jungle.

Iirc, the church he regularly attends is notoriously anti-gay, and other stuff
There was a problem fetching the tweet
Of course, people are gonna be rubbed the wrong way

At this point may as well just separate the art from the artist, no one in Hollywood could be "innocent" at this point.

I think the Super Mario Bros. movie would be better if they didn't have Mario, Luigi, and Bowser not talking and just like in the games the former two just saying their particular catchphrases (Voiced by their original current voice actors).

I could however let Peach fly by with talking.

How can you stretch a film where three of the major characters don't speak for 2 hours?

I think it can be done. Take a note from the SSE in Brawl. Body language and expressions understanding what they're thinking and such.

Wall-E for a part of its movie not counting the human parts managed to do that especially. Also an apples to oranges comparison but A Quiet Place as well.

That wasn't a cinema movie, though, as it was a video game. There may be some films where there is no talking, but most films have spoken speech in them, and I have doubts that the Mario film will be an exception.

Again this is where Wall-E comes to mind if you don't take the human parts into account.

Yeah, I know. Still, I can imagine some people find it odd that the main character in a film like this does not speak. I mean, the robots, as far as I know, weren't made with voice chips, especially Wall-E, who was made with a bunch of other robots to clean up Earth or whatever before the humans left for space.

It's just Mario is known for only saying certain catchphrases. Be weird seeing Mario talk normally.

Other example is Alpha (2018) an highly underrated and very overlooked movie set in prehistoric times. I know Michael Dougherty, director of Trick r Treat, Krampus, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters wants to do Godzilla B.C. focusing mostly on Godzilla's point of view and also some of our prehistoric ancestors.

There's also Quest of Fire (Ron Perlman's first film role) and an apples to oranges comparison but A Quiet Place

This shows it could be done.

Yeah, but those were beasts who could not speak at all. Not to be mean or rude, but why not try some examples with humans who don't actually talk.

I don’t agree with this, Bowser has some of the best dialogue writing in the series,
I remembered he talked a bit in Super Mario Sunshine but otherwise most other games had him just grunting and growling and such. Even then he only spoke a bit at the end of Sunshine.

Are you calling our ancestors beasts? Because Alpha (2018) was about a young boy, the son of the chief's tribe being separated from them and surviving together with a wolf he befriended.

If you don't put in the English subtitles, that's an example of using body expressions and body language.

Also Quest for Fire, Ron Perlman's first film role.

I thought you meant prehistoric beasts that weren't human.

Still, I do recall a move with no dialogue, now that I think about it. Still, that, as well as the movie you mentioned, Quest for Fire; assuming they weren't made for kids, I don't think they would do well for a family movie like Mario's movie, as many family movies involve speaking.

Also, we are beasts, just a different kind of beast. ;)

Regardless I still think they could have pulled this movie off with Mario and Luigi just using their particular catchphases.

Perhaps Bowser could still talk only just not that much since I recall the only time you could hear him actually talk was at the end of Super Mario Sunshine and even then that was only a little.

Otherwise everyone else I think could talk like Peach and the Toads.

Either way though Schnee brought up The Super Mario Bros. Super Show which somehow I apparently overlooked. :embarrass:

Okay yeah that nude scene definitively qualifies as sexual harassment. And I'll never defend abandoning an animal like that.

I still don't think it's fair to go around calling him homophobic when he hasn't said or done anything that specifically qualifies (as far as we know). I do think it's an important distinction to make between someone who's complicit in homophobia (such as by voting for homophobic politicians) and someone who's outright homophobic (directing anger/fear towards homosexuals). Someone who's complicit might just be apathetic to LGBTQ+ rights. Granted that's still a bad thing and LGBTQ+ individuals still absolutely have a right to be upset by it.

I guess I just really value honesty in our language, especially in the socio-political world where misinformation runs rampant.
