I suppose that's true, but at Apex a lot of top melee players and myself went to watch M2K vs Brood and stayed for GFs.
I was on of them.

But to be honest it wasn´t worth it.
The only reason ( If you ask me) that turned out in so much hype was cause it was USA vs Japan.

The matches was hella boring (one timeout and one match was really close to timeout if I remeber correctly).

:p

MLG was Brawl's peak. Now that it's over, I think we're going to see the Brawl community shrink and the Melee community continue to grow (from its low point in '08).
Melee was at a low point in '08?
Shoots, I started playing in december of 08. (wombo combo day) I still thought it had some of my favorite moments though when I was watching matches.

Brawl came out in March of 2008. Many people migrated to it, though even if just for a couple weeks until they either decided they didn't like it/hated it or whatever adjective you choose to use. There was a lull in melee specific things and certain Brawl/Melee events would ban the other game to hopefully not have to deal with the drama between the two communities.

I didn't know about competitive smash until december, and I played brawl when it came out till them. Sheesh, brawl has been out a lot shorter than I thought.

All brawl matches are boring, it seriously puts me to sleep.

I'd rather watch a pichu ditto.

Well Brawl does have more people than Melee, but if you look at it like an even ration between Brawl members that like melee also, and Melee itself, I'd say Melee is the favored big brother of the series.

melee is way more fun to watch and play, most pro brawl matches are slow MK dittos that take forever to finish. melee is, in my opinion better.

I enjoy playing brawl alot more than watching it. With melee, I enjoy both.

There are a few key ingredients that keep people playing a game for years.

1. Love for the game, first and foremost; nobody will keep going back to a game that isn't truly fun in the long run
2. A strong national presence; an assurance that you're not alone playing the game in your own hometown/Smash community
3. Evidence that the community is still gaining new members; comfort from seeing a new generation of players
4. Evidence that the game's potential has still yet to be fulfilled, and that there are still new and exciting gameplay elements to learn about

Brawl is currently 2 for 4 in this list in my opinion, and soon to be 1 for 4. Melee is sitting pretty at an indisputable 4 for 4. To be honest, I don't see Brawl surviving past a couple more years. I can't speak for players outside my home region, but almost every Brawl player I talk to in the Midwest seems to still be playing out of some sort of misguided obligation to do so. They simply do not love their game nearly as much as Melee players love their game. As far as I can tell, now that MLG has dropped Brawl for good, the feeling of hype and hope for future progress that came with big Brawl events like Axis and CoT4 is long gone. Melee has proven its resilience through time... the release of Brawl has strengthened the Melee community's determination to not only survive, but prosper once again.

To be honest I'm not sure which two you're talking about, Juggleguy. If you have doubts about the players' love for Brawl, take a look at the Brawl boards. Look at how much discussion there is. The players are obviously really into the game

Brawl is played in tournaments not only throughout the country, but throughout the world.
Afaik Brawl is also gaining new players all the time. It's easy to get into because the game is available in stores.
Brawl is constantly evolving, and there is just no way the metagame's full potential has been tapped yet.

i wouldn't honestly say that brawl players hate brawl, but melee players i think are definitely more passionate about their game then brawlers are, just in my opinion.
