I still think Mew2 should be given a 90%.

He is the only true villian of the series. . . like Bowser and Ganon are their serie's main villians.

Being villains isn't what makes Bowser and Ganondorf top choices for SSB though - being among the most important characters of their series is. Besides, even whether Mewtwo can be called a villain is debateable, since hes only portrayed as such in one of the movies, and is otherwise just another legendary Pokèmon.

I know MookieRah posted something about it which made me question if something might be going on with the company or something.
My info came from a much older thread a while back that basically outlined how Isaac isn't first party and Nintendo doesn't have all the rights to it and what not. It was pretty **** convincing at the time, and I was unaware of any changes, so I'm not sure which info is right. I would love to see Isaac in Brawl though, I loved Golden Sun.

Homeless, why the hell do you have percentages? The Percentages are nothing more than ranks. You've used Percents in the completely wrong manner. Percents could never be calculated on a character for Brawl.

OK I've got a few things to say. Hate me if you will.

I believe Waluigi is a shoe-in.

Minor Mario characters such as shyguy, birdo, and koopa are possibilities (not large ones, mind you).

It is my personal opinion that any previous character is a shoe-in. It is kind of foolish to think they would take any characters out, unless they replaced them with a clone (but why would they do that?).

Provide evidence because you seem to be BSing that...

What in the world would lead you to that conclusion?

Proof:

I don't even think I need to support my statement about all the Melee characters being in Brawl, but I will. All the 64 characters transferred over to GCN, so why would you have any reason to expect them to all of a sudden to decide "You know what? Ness isn't that cool after all."? I think it is safe to assume that, with time, all Melee characters will be confirmed.

Waluigi is probable because (duh) Wario has been approved. And I know Wario has been in way more games than Waluigi, but what games does Luigi have under his belt? Luigi's Mansion? I think Waluigi is a probable character, and I would have expected him far before Snake. Mario has Luigi, and Wario has Waluigi. He has been in Mario Party for quite some time, as well as Mario Kart Double Dash. And if you don't follow any of my other logic, I think Luigi deserves his own villain.

And Shyguy, Birdo, Koopa, etc. are jsut BS pretty much. I could see it happening, but I wouldn't put money on it. My only support is that they have been in Mario Kart games. To be honest though, I would see Boo or King Boo before shyguy or birdo. My point is that any Nintendo character is more than fair game, so why is it so avant-garde for me to suggest them as possible playable characters? I believe a host of minor Mario characters will be playable characters.

To add though, I would expect Toad. He is a very popular Mario character. He has been in every Mario Kart game, and a bulk of the Mario platforming games. I would say he is very likely for brawl.

Waluigi isn't in Wariorware, and all everything pertaining to Wario in Brawl draws from Warioware.

It most certainly is not. Take a look at Samurai Panda's translations of [thread=72642]Sakurai's journal[/thread], specifically entry #81-90. It quite specifically states:

As for the previous game's characters, some of them will disappear. Definitely.
Nothing ambiguous about that. Some veterans will not return. This has been known for over a year.

You're kidding, right? Luigi has been Mario's partner/sidekick almost since the beginning, and has two games of his own under his belt (Mario is Missing, Luigi's Mansion). Wario is a long-time enemy of Mario with his own series, Wario Ware. What is Waluigi? A fusion of Wario and Luigi whose only appearances are in the spin-off Party and Sports games, and even there hes a filler character, designed to give Wario a doubles partner in Tenis and hardly expanded beyond that role since. Short of the dime-a-dozen flunkies, hes as minor as Mario characters get.

Coslem said:

Which is poor support indeed, since Mario Kart is restricted to drawing upon Mario characters, which forces it to use characters who are minor to the series unless it wants to use only a small handful of characters in every incarnation of the game. SSB has no such restriction, and thus no need to draw on the minor characters for aught beyond assist trophies.

That is true, but as quoted by Carl Sagan: "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

Ok you guys win. You are way too serious about this. Reading the dude's diary to get hints about Brawl? Crazy. And you can't rely on the translation. You would not believe how much gets lost in translation. I guess we will just have to wait and see. My suggestion is to chill out about it, because my opinion is my opinion.

They included Pichu in Melee, and what was he? He was a filler character. He had no purpose in melee except to humiliate players by using him, and in Pokemon he was jsut there to look cute. Furthermore, what are the bulk of Pokemon? Filler characters. Like 100 something pokemon every game. You cannot disprove Waluigi in Brawl by saying he is a filler character, when Pichu was nothing more but the same.

Pichu and Waluigi, in term of Smash Bros. inclusion, are entirely different. Melee was incredibly rushed, which resulted in a lot of those "filler" characters, like Pichu, being added simply because they could essentially take existing characters' movesets and graft them onto a similar character. I.e. Pichu and Pikachu, Mario and Dr. Mario, Link and Young Link, basically all were only included to fill up the seemingly smaller roster at the time by using existing movesets on new characters with altered stats/abilities slightly.

Brawl hasn't really have any of these time issues, and leaves a lot more time for the original and essentially "non-filler" creations. Even the delay shows they won't be rushing this to get it out by the holidays really. They've had plenty of time with still months to go, so I really doubt we'll see any filler/clones this time around. And, by extension, Waluigi just isn't popular, well-known, or important enough to merit an original moveset and roster slot, I'd say.

Wow.. I was expecting they'd be sort of similar but it really seems like Lucas just stole his entire moveset, tweaked it a bit, and left Ness to rot >.< Things certainly don't look good for him... He's pretty much gone really.

39) Ness = 70%
Honestly this is a hard possition to give because Sakurai could go three ways. He has shown more love to Mother 3, and Ness's role before had just be a replacement because Lucas couldn't be used so....Sakurai could go entirely with Mother 3 and add Lucas and Claus, give respect to ness as the replacement and have Ness and Lucas as characters or just stick with Lucas. Hmm this is quite difficult indeed.
Advantages
-Ness was in the first two games of smash
-Ness's game mother 2 (or earthbound) was released in both the US and Japan.
Disadvantages
-Ness's moves aren't even his (most them at least)
-LUCAS! Most would say that it doesn't have a remark to Ness in the slightest but these words of sakurai make it highly debatable to whether Ness will be or not, "Is it possible he can surpass even Ness?!" Yeah that definitly says something.

You might wanna change Ness's chances to like 10-20% chance if not 0%. Some people are still denying he's gone.

Homeless, why the heck do you have percentages? The Percentages are nothing more than ranks. You've used Percents in the completely wrong manner. Percents could never be calculated on a character for Brawl.
Yeah, I would agree. The precentage system has almost lost it's full meaning. However it still apllies to tell viewers that this list isn't my personal "who's in" thread but general probablity thread. So what do you guys think? Should I get rid of the precentages for a more favorable ranking system? You're feedback will help make this thread a better place.

Also thanks to today's dojo post, I moved things around. While it may be sad moves to some, notice that all newcomers now have their special moves revealed. This update might also explain why Lucas wasn't in E for all. Still Wario is unexplained.

I'm going to reiterate this, because it seems you've skipped over my post entirely. Pay particular attention to that last paragraph.

I take issue with the placing of WW Link at 15% over Midna. Not just because I like Midna, either. There are a lot of things that I feel you didn't take into account.

For one thing, you've bought into the hype that WW Link is different from the other Links in any way other than design. You're forgetting that no two links have ever had the exact same moves at their disposal. Arrows, Bombs, and the boomerang are really the only recurring weapons. The first Link didn't have a hookshot or grappling hook or anything. So citing a "different moveset" is bunk. Furthermore, despite the fact that very few Links have been the same as a previous Link, they have all been the bearers of the Triforce of Courage, which is what made them Link in the first place. Nothing else. Thus WW Link is as much a different character from TP Link as TP Link is for OoT Link or the original Link. You may as well consider WW Zelda to be different from the one in OoT, and her transformation would be Tetra, but then that would be silly. Why is Link any different? You could also go so far as to say that the Link who appeared in WW, having starred in two games, is more likely than TP Link. Thus far, TP Link seems to have won out for the representation.

I realize that the precedent for the same character appearing twice in different forms has been set, but in every case where that happened in Melee, the resultant character was either a clone (not supposed to happen in Brawl) or a transformation (TP Link transforms into WW Link? puh-leese).

Yes, there is the potential for a unique moveset, and that's why WW Link sticks around. However, Midna has an even greater potential for uniqueness. She's almost universally loved by Zelda players, she has a background all her own, she's technically a female, and Sakurai is thus far looking to Twighlight Princess for inspiration in Brawl, judging by Zelda and Link's designs.

You mention overpopulation, but frankly, that removed, I'd say that the two characters are at least equal, and your application of "overpopulation" is arbitrary, as is your removal of 15% seemlingly for that reason alone. I'd like to see real argumentation for both characters, plz.

Actually, your application of the overpopulation rule seems arbitrary in most cases, such as Wolf or Bowser Jr., or Lucario, even. It feels like just an excuse to put a less favored character even lower. IMO, this rule should not be applied unless the confirmed character population for a given franchise has maxed out. Thus far, one Star Fox rep is confirmed, three Mario reps and three (at most) peripherals are confirmed, and two Pokemon reps are confirmed. None of them has reached any kind of maximum, IMO.

"There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar."

That pretty much deconfirms Ness totally. There is the slim possibility this was translated wrongly, but since the guy who does the translating (a guy giving a demonstarion comments on this on IGN) seemed to know his stuff and i doubt hed put that if Ness was indeed in the game.

I think the new debate should be who gets the number 50 spot. Paper Mario, Dark Samus, Wolf or even Chibi-Robo are maybe's.

I think Paper Mario has edged past Black Knight and Ness to get a spot on the 50. Black Knight is more deconfirmed than Wolf with Ike having a heavy moveset and his entrance. Fox's costume didnt really look like Wolf that much. The icon sort of helped Dr. Lobes chances as well maybe the docter could make a glorious return to the 50?

True, but unlike Ridley, Black Knight doesnt bring much to the game moveset wise, isnt that important to his overall series and, if im being honest, very generic and unoriginal.

They'll probably throw it down in the S.E. anyway. Ike with Yoshi or Lucas or someone else thats very out of place, by his side.

Yet unlike Ridley, the Black Knight isn't a nearly-omnipresent character in his series, and is less important to the games he does appear in than Ridley is to his. Where Ridley leads the Space Pirates, the Black Knight serves the real antagonists in his games. Only Ike really considers him more important than any other enemy general, and he only does so for personal reasons.

Ridley is important to his series and one of the most popular choices for Brawl anywhere. The Black Knight, not so much.

+Wolf did well on the poll's and has high suppport in japan.
Paper mario has high support well...everywhere.
Dr.lobe has the icon backing him up.
So i don't quite see what's the problem of putting ness and black knight (Mii's also ? :/) Over them .

I really don't think we will have the same character occupying 2 or more character slots this time around. And before you go pointing to some sort of Link/Y. Link clone, hear me out.

Subspace Emissary is looking to be a hard worked one storyline, not something that was thrown into Smash at the last second. One of the things mentioned in the "What is the Subspace Emissary?" update was character development.

"The Adventure mode also emphasises character development. You’ll see many famous characters persevering under the weight of their personal histories, shouldering their unique burdens... It’s really something you won’t see anywhere else."

We've also seen my characters pairing up with each other as they fight the Subspace Army, mainly for the purposes of Co-op mode. Pit & Mario, Kirby & [Insert saved Princess here], Link and Yoshi, and more recently Fox and Diddy, are all examples of this happening.

Now, having 2 of the same character in 2 slots in the context of Subspace just seems.. odd. Ike and Paper Mario fighting somewhere makes little sense when Pit and Mario are off doing something else. Previously this kind of thing didn't matter in a Smash game, but now, in Subspace Emissary, we're seeing a lot of crossovers with an actual storyline behind it.

It's mainly for the reasons above that I find it hard to justify multiples of a character, and thus have a hard time accepting people like Paper Mario, Wind Waker/Wolf Link, and others. I think we'll be seeing other unique characters to help propel the Subspace storyline.

Makes since...but how do we know that a double would even be in subspace emissary. Also if Sakurai wanted to he could find a loop hole to fit that character in the storyline.

Well donkey Kong is a seling point for nintendo (though not as big as other franchises)
4th best selling franchise for Nintendo, 4 million less units than LoZ and not as big as other franchises? There are only 3 bigger than it :/

Still I believe an unnoriginal moveset, limited popularity as well as other factors keep K. Rool from reaching the top.
Oh I get you've never played a Donkey Kong Country game in your life!

Why is Ness still in top 50 most probable after being directly deconfirmed on the official website. Just because Lucas doesnt have exactly the same moves doesnt mean Ness is back. Ness's moveset needed improving and if he would have returned instead of Lucas he would have had those moves in all probability. Add someone new to this list. Im unsure who though. Dr. Lobe? I liked that idea.

And remove black knight , He has NOTHING Going for him , And maybe mii's as well , I Mean think about it...BK Is in a series with 10 games so they have to pick the iconic lords right ? Do you think they will put in two heavy swordsmen one that is unpopular over a magic user a light and a heavy swordsmen :chuckle:? And mii's...Don't get me started.
Anyhow here are some idea's to add in mii's/Bk's/ness's (I think personally.) Also stafy should be moved down a bit but you can keep him there if you want (Just saying.) There is also a 3-d picture of him on that site...Wait why did you put a different ridley pic >_> ?
Anyhow some ideas:
-Dr.stewart (Or anyother F-zero rep.)
-Dr.lobe (Epic win.)
-Paper mario.
-Wolf o donell.
-Animal crosser.
tell us what your plans are :chuckle: , Anyhow i think that you should keep the percents (It's what makes this unique.) AND GET RID OF THE FLIPPING COLORING SYSTEM (But that's just my opinion , You do what you want.) , Anyhow we need feedback on it , Tell me what you think :chuckle:.

WTF??? Dr. Lobe over Ness? I'm going home.
Dr.lobe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>A Rock>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ness , Go home then.
