random question:

How do i effectively gimp yoshi? (put in mind the yoshi has a superb knowledge of the matchup, can catch effectively AND abuse super armor in his jump)

advice? besides racking up to 150% lol

SA frames end just after the beginning of the jump correct?

Wish I played more Yoshis or I could give you a helping hint aside from "tough luck!"

But seriously, make traps for Yoshi on the stage. Despite Yoshi having a rather ineffective third jump, he still rarely gets gimped. Just don't be too aggressive and eat a bunch of eggs, those things are quick and deal decent amounts of damage, as well as setting him up for a safe way onto the stage o.o

Forgot, if he's planking you, just hug the ledge and force him back onto the stage. He's one of the better characters at planking (like ROB, and Tink >.>)

they last almost through out the whole jump O_< i dair twice on him and sighs... it wasnt super effective lol.

the traps i do set are traps where he cannot get back onto the stage without jumping which im ready to expect an attack/airdodge and punish appropriately. but to counter the trap they always plank...and yes that egg sometimes shield pokes me O_<... but what i hate about this match is that i have trouble killing him...my fresh dsmash (sweetspot) didnt kill a yoshi at 140% O_< i was outraged!

edit: i hate getting fair'd or getting secks kick gimped >_<

im not saying the match is unwinnable its just very frustrating and would like it to be more in my favor...i rack twice as much dmg but in vain :\ tho %'s mean nothing in this game half the time : <

Not wishing to troll post in the rest of the forums, i think this is the right place for this kind of question.

I am fairly new to Diddy, and have just fallen in LOVE (<3). He is just so creative and 'different' in his gameplay. (I often feel like I am playing an RTS within brawl- the bananas are the units that i am managing :p). I am able to GT, aerial dodge catch etc. and I am currently working on Both types of locks (Banana and single Banana lock), yet I have trouble with basic banana movement techs such as dribbling and Backwards GT and Backwards Reverse GT, I don't really understand the difference and i don't nderstand the concept :/.

Simply, I would greatly appreciate tips on Dribbling and all types of GT's and how they differ from each other.
-Do they require different timings?
-When i Attempt to GT with a D-throw I don't move, Why?
-Difference's between the concept and technique of Double Dribble and Dribble.

Sorry I realise this may have been too much to ask, but as these movement skills are such a vital part of a Diddy's Gameplay, I wanted to get it right!

Cheers

1. I dont think the different GT directions (backwards and forwards) differ in timing. And I dont think the direction in which you throw the banana (the 4 cardinal directions) changes the timing either.

2. Youre hitting cstick too FAST. I had that problem too before. People said dribbling was technical so I thought we had to cstick down ASAP after rolling. Just use the same timing as a GT. Slow it down a little and you should be able to get it down 100%.

3. You can check the Kongpendium for a more complete description but here a general summary

Double Dribbling- GTing back and forth between two bananas and throwing them down allowing you to follow up with another one. It looks like WDing back and forth in melee. The mindgame is that youre opponent never knows when you will mix it up and suddenly toss the banana forward out of the GT instead of downwards.

Single Dribbling- GTing backwards and throwing downwards and then hitting A before the slide is over so that you repick up the banana. What happens is you slide backwards while keeping the banana. Very useful since you can use it for spacing, to fake an opponent out (charge the opponent then dribble back at the last second) or even to stop approaches. All in all, an awesome technique.

Hope I answered your questions. Dont hesitate to ask if you have more. And welcome to the Diddy boards ^_^

EDIT: Its really OK to ask as much questions as you like as long as they arent spam. If it pertains to Diddy, just ask away. Itsnever too much.

EDIT2: I actually have a question too xD

What does AFAIK mean?

DFEAR, I've got a lot of videos of me going up against Bwett, who is widely considered one of the Top 3 (if not the best) Yoshi mains in the country in my video thread.

Due to his ability to recovery wide and far and close distance pretty quickly with his fast horizontal aerial movement, I tend to think that Yoshi is one of the most difficult characters in the game to gimp. More often than not, I end up getting the tables turned on me due to how effective the super armor on Yoshi's second jump can reverse our positions, so I don't even bother with trying to go for a flashy early gimp. Yoshi gets ***** on the ground pretty badly and it also doesn't help that he has some of the most limited options if you properly apply mid-range zoning against him; when this is effectively deployed, you ought to never be touched.

Hmmm...the masses have learned yet Hanson...but they will. The only characters i have a hard time zoning is Snake/Meta...with good reason.

I would try to explain mid-range zoning, but Hanson will just **** me with his big block of text so yeah. >.>

My strategy is to stay just on the barrier of the opponents range, close enough that u are a threat but far enough that u aren't threatened by them. That will make them want to initiate something, and u punish whatever they attempt, considering they must come even closer into diddy's range to attack. Me and Hanson call it a new form of camping. I haven't played anyone yet that has not been suspectible to this except for UltimateRazor...and thats slightly because he makes me approach him >.<. Now u can destroy me Hanson.

play arakune
...YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSZ.

@gnes: I need to get better at utilizing all of my mid-range options at the right time. It's hard to practice it when my only options to do so are Wi-Fi, in which the lag makes it a bit tougher, or offline against my brother's Marth...and he's Marth, A.K.A I mess up and get a tippered F-smash to the face.

Mid-range zoning helps in a LOT of match-ups though. This really ***** Fox. Like...really ***** him.

I thought it was called spacing, nvm :p

Blazblue isn't realesed in Europe yet, plus I'd need to buy a PS3 "^^
There was a preview at the tournament I went to on saturday, and it looks cool.

Hey Hanson, what characters do you recommend doing this against (mid range zoning I mean)? Im gonna try practicing this but like Avarice, my bro mains Marth so Im a little reluctant to practice MRZing (abbreviations FTW :)) against him.

Also, I still want to know what AFAIK means :ohwell:

Provokes DK's to filt or Down+B and those are easy to punish. Same for Falco's reflector if your in GT range. A little foxtrotting/DDing with a naner in your hand is going to make someone anxious.

@ Inguilt:

The banana toss is still ideal cuz it lets you do any of those options off the trip. If you don't have a banana it depends on who your playing and how you play. You can d-tilt in succession to beat those spot dodge happy players who throw a move out and then spotdodge your counter.

The only time I GT backwards is to throw a naner at someone teching back towards me or to quickly gain space and escape out of an attack.

OK thanks Inguilt

Why dont we have a thread about mid-range zoning? If its really such a gamebreaking concept, we should get a guide/discussion thread up. And I would really like to get some info about MRZing into the Diddy guide so the thread would allow me to pick out the more useful posts.

Too bad I dont know enough about this to start one myself

I think some of you are over thinking it a little. All MRZ is staying at a safe distance from your opponent but close enough to provoke a punishable action. I don't know if you could make a whole thread about it but it should be something you try to do sub-consciously.

It's called spacing!!!

Anyway, I'd like to address all of the Diddy boards, I asked AZ last night on the AiB (lolololololololol!!!) chat how often he uses instant tossing, he said NEVER due to it:

"not being useful/haven't worked it into my game yet."

Now... I don't know about you guys, but once I mastered instant throwing in all directions, especially instant throwing bananas right back at people... well, let's just say my Diddy hasn't lost in tourney, MM, or training friendlies, since SWAT (pre-instant throwing).

It's just too beast.

I know. I love instant throwing ^_^
I also like to use it against people with obvious throws. Just instant throw back and profit.
Another thing I like to do is instant throw a banana near the ledge from a ledge hop. Its really surprising and can turn the tables on someone edgeguarding you. Its risky but if you land it, its worth it.
Also, I just started (like a month ago) seeing random oppurtunities to work this into my gameplay and actually get creative with it. Its really fun and keeps you on your toes.
Sorry AZ but I believe this is one of Diddys better techniques :)

I usually catch it with Z... the timing seems more strict, but you don't have to throw it away/back instantly to cancel the air dodge.

plus its flashier :)

but yeah, I love instant throwing...

Both Gness and DUB have the concept correct, and it an idea that I have been revisiting with Diddy Kong frequently in my video thread over these last two or three months. Not everyone checks that thread, however, so I do think it is something that will be worth exploring in the open. I'll get a little somethin'-somethin' up here in the next couple of hours.

Oh I think I know what youre talking about. Is it that new strategy you came up with to beat KOSMOSs Peach and also the reason why you feel Marth is an even MU? I remember reading something you posted about this in your video thread and about how you were trying to incorporate it into other MUs.

I have some other questions but Ill wait for your explanation before I ask them since the text usually answers most of them.

I wish I could of gone. Wonder if NANERZ is entering. Nobody knows where that dude is nowadays.

If theres any EC Diddys looking for a major tourney soon that can't make it to Genesis but want to go to a major tourney there is:

HERB 2 ((July 25 Melee -26th Brawl )) Greensboro, NC

- HERB 1 was star studded. Good competition everywhere. Literally no bad players. I got practice on a lot of matchups from some of the best with their characters. (( Pyronic Star - Olimar Chillen- Falco M2K- MK. Reflex's gnarly Pokemon Trainer stopped by. GA, FL, MA/VA. Player-1, GDX, come on up to NC.
