Well, first things first, have I missed anything? Second, I decided last Tuesday to play through Super Mario RPG again on Hard Mode (where you fight all the bosses including Culex with Mario, Geno, and Bowser) and I've learned somethings regarding Geno:

1. Geno Beam and Geno Blast are classified as "ice" attacks. (I already asked this in an earlier post but should these attacks have freezing properties if Geno becomes playable?)

2. If you let go of Y right after the third star appears before doing Geno Beam, Blast, or Flash, it doubles the attack power. (Yeah, it's weird. I've played throught this game probably a dozen times in the past 11 years and this is the first time I've noticed that. I wonder if this could be implemented in someway if Geno became playable.)

3. It's highlighted during several parts in the game how radically different Geno is from the other people in your party. I was aware of these moments but I didn't realize how much certain moments put the spotlight on him. For an easy one to reference, in Nimbus Land Palace after you beat Dodo and Valentina, the King builds a statue room in honor of your party and there's one person in front of the Geno statue that says "This one is so... unworldy."

4. Quartz Charm + Geno= unstoppable killing machine

5. I don't know if it's my imagination but the Smithy Gang bosses seem to attack Geno more then any other character... I know the attacks are done by chance but when I played through, Geno was attacked probably 3 times more then any other character. The plot suggests that Geno has confronted the Smithy Gang before but perhaps I'm letting my imagination get carried away...

Well, that's about it for now. Last week was a great week update wise and I hope this week is just as good. Because I couldn't care less about political correctness, I'd like to wise you all a Merry Christmas if I don't log on tomorrow or Tuesday.

I'm sure he does since Miyamoto created him, but Pikmin is not as popular as some people are implying. It didn't sell well. Maybe by Gamecube standards, but still.
You obviously don't understand sales.

If a game sells 1million then it sold well. No questions asked. That is the minimum for a game doing well.

Pikmin, however, sold 1.61 million wolrdeide with Pikmin 2 at 1.05.
http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=Pikmin&console=&publisher=&sort=Total
So, chances are good Olimar will be playable.

About 2 fatman, the game tells you that. You're not supposed to hold y the whole time. You're supposed to let go at three stars otherwise it reverts to one.

Fine, Pikmin sold well, whatever. Pikmin still isn't as popular as some people make it out to be.

Hahahaha and I was just about to turn on the Fatmanonice signal too!

Well lets see here, I found your post to be quite interesting.

1) I had no clue that Geno's attacks were considered ice O_O. I guess those properties could be applied to Brawl.. it could work I guess..

2) I always just held it down throughout the entire attack. Whoops...

3) Squaresoft certainly had their fun with Geno. It isn't often that you see a third party Mario character..

4) But doesn't the Quartz Charm just increase the power of Rock Candy and Star Egg? Am I missing something!?

5) It is certainly a possibility but most likely luck.

*looks at Fatmanonice signal* Hope I won't be having to use this anytime soon... I mean, it should only be used in the case of an emergency after all.. its a shame you aren't around a lot of the times when the problems begin. You're one of the best posters on this thread. Cheers Fatmanonice!

I seriously hope it's Geno, but then again there's my doubts.

Tomorrow is probably a newcomer or Tuesday, and the day that the newcomers not on, will be a game mode update (Wi-Fi or something).

Actually, the Quartz Charm increases your attack by 2.5X and increases your defense 1.5X. It's a scary good accessory but most people don't know it because when you equip it, it doesn't visually do anything to your stats. I felt like I accomplished something beating Culex with Mario, Geno, and Bowser. I beat him on my second try and without having to use a pick me up. I makes me wish that Culex had returned in a later game.

Thanks for the compliments by the way. I haven't been spending that much time online this month because I've basically been "locked out" of the Nsider2 forums. I haven't been banned or anything but the site closed for two days several weeks ago and, as if by magic, my account is now royally screwed up and the Administrators have ignored my emails... Oh well... I try to be on most days regardless.

Anyways, I was thumbing through the posts and someone said that Megaman was somehow deconfirmed. Is this true or is someone meerly speculating because he wasn't updated last week during his 20th anniversary?

add in @ Cless: My parents bought a used copy of Super Mario RPG for me for Christmas 1996 so I never had the instruction manual. I bought the offical guide about two years later (I found it buried under a ton of other guides at Wal-Mart, oddly enough) but I guess I over looked that part considering how I had already gone through the game about 4 times at that point.

No, there was a recent interview with Inafune that everyone is getting hot and bothered over. Most people in the Mega Man thread think it means nothing for some reasons, and others think it's an outright deconfirmation.

The thing is that GoNintendo is reliable with about half of their information. Something this big would have easily found it's way to IGN or Gamepro. Obviously, I don't have a subscription to the site that it links to so I can't listen to the podcast either. Regardless, Inafune coming right out and saying Megaman won't be in Brawl makes me a bit suspicious...

The podcast is legit. Capcom mentions Inafune's recording it on their site.
If Inafune is telling the truth then, Capcom has basically itself in the foot and the hole is about the size of orange... Brawl promises to be one of the most critically acclaimed and best selling games of 2008 so needless to say, missing the boat would be fool hardy especially when you consider how long Nintendo and Capcom go back. Still, I raise an eyebrow since Megaman's popularity is more then apparent and Inafune would just go right out and crush people's hopes. That doesn't exactly sound like something he'd do.

I'm not arguing for Olimar being worthwhile in Brawl or anything but 1 million is mediocre. especially if you need 1 million worldwide instead of in a single country/region.

Yeah, people in that thread and the Mega Man thread have been all over showing how the podcast doesn't mean all that much.

I'm pretty sure he's just saying that because sakurai didn't want him to confirm megaman's in.
Which is what I've been thinking too.

Besides Geno, Megaman was the only third party character in Sakurai's journal that was mentioned more then once and the only character suggestion besides Toad that Sakurai specifically commented on. It's also believed that Megaman was not only the most suggested third party character overall but also in the top 3 when it came to characters overall. Still, there are some things that are working againist him like how several characters that were mentioned only twice have been shot down (Jeff, Diddy and Dixie as a team), or have had their chances of becoming playable freakishly reduced because of what has been shown(Demille, Sigurd).

Sakurai said that there was going to be a limited number of third party characters but to do just Snake and Sonic would be plain weird. Snake really only has one Nintendo exclusive under his belt and Sonic didn't join the "Nintendo cause" until 2002. Megaman, on the other hand, has more then 20 Nintendo exclusives, has appeared on every Nintendo platform except the Virtual Boy, and has been with Nintendo since 1987. For a game that is basically celebrating Nintendo's history, it would be beyond strange to exclude him or for Sakurai to simply "forget" to contact Capcom.

In Geno related news, I don't know if this revelation would hurt him. If Megaman is truely out, it does provide more evidence about characters mentioned more then 2 times (Geno was mentioned 5) having more breathing room but it could show that Sakurai hasn't been as proactive as we once thought he was in regards to contacting third parties. In an interview following the unveiling of Brawl, Sakurai said that they had already contacted "several" third parties regarding having interest in perhaps using their characters. Heck, even after he said that, several spectators shouted out "Sonic" and "Megaman" at the top of their lungs so, unless Sakurai is legally deaf, Sakurai is fully aware of what a big icon he is.

Ugh, I guess we'll have to play the waiting game to find out if any of this is true....

It would suck if this that is true. Megaman was one of the characters I would've loved to see in Brawl. I guess we'll have wait and see how everything plays out.

Chances are, Nintendo just never contacted them.

Lets look at it this way. With both Sonic and Snake, Sakurai is going out of his way to add the most representation that he can for this franchise. Stages, stickers, items, assist, trophies, the works. Megaman only made a 2 on the poll. Would it have been worth it to add Megaman to please a few people. The most popular characters right now are all Nintendo characters. There isn't much room left and Megaman wasn't popular enough to make the cut.

Mega Man was mentioned by Sakurai twice. We have no idea how many Mega Man suggestions were sent in.

Also, one Snake stage so far, one MGS AT, no comfirmed Sonic stage, no confirmed Sonic ATs, stickers and trophies aren't hard to do, I mean he's not going out of his way to show us these 3rd party things if he is indeed making multiple ATs and the such. There's no reason why he couldn't do the same for Mega Man.

But to have Snake and Sonic but no Megaman on the roster? That's just silly. I am sure a lot of people like myself would chose Megaman over Snake.

Now, I ain't saying I don't want Snake in, he is more unique than I thought, but Megaman is just more popular. Megaman has been with Nintendo for over 20 years (and I mean that console wise). Sonic had his own systems. Sega, Dreamcast etc. Sonic stared in his first Nintendo console game in 2001-2003 or something. Snake had his first ever game from a computer game to an SNES game. We all know that part of the reason Snake is in Brawl is to advertise MGS4.

Sorry I've been away for so long - I've been obsessing with playing Galaxy as much as possible, among other things.

Speaking of which, anyone else think that Rosalina could be the "higher authority" of which Geno speaks.

from the logical stand point, Classic Megaman hasn't been in the gaming scene for a while now, where as with Snake and Sonic has been, Megaman's popularity has died down, and still is because of crappy Exe, and digi-volving humans with cybers or whatever.

Where as with Geno, his has gone back up, but was in 1 GOOD GAME, where as Mega's hits have been either Great, repetitive or Aweful(EXE, Medabots chip model)

Sorry I've been away as well, lost internet connection

The last game Mega Man was in was MvC2.
which Megaman are wqe atlking about? I'm talking about classic Mega, 1-8, Mega + Bass all that when was the classic's last game released?

Why did he get replaced with others?

Thats the thing you have to love with Nintendo, they don't replace old characters all the time and use the same formula.

Jr took over the koopalings is a example, few like him, few dislike him, but the original 7 will always be the 1 i remember, but their last game was also the last game Geno appeared in.

And that was in 04.
