I thought I'd never say this, but what a relief!

And I only say this because there's a green Melee Falco in that batch, so JCz can have his old green Melee Falco texture for singles and teams, which'll keep from sabotaging my lovely blue Brawl Falco <3.

And since I don't care about green Falco in the slightest, I'll go ahead and add it to my Wii too. I'll just have to remember to forever call "no green" before every teams match.

See? It's practically a win-win situation. I get blue Brawl Falco, you get green Melee Falco.

I kinda wish I had paid attention to the Magus remix we were listening to in your truck, the one where the lead guitars didn't realize they were doing a remix of Magus' theme but the rhythm guitars were. Song was so badass and I can't seem to find it on YouTube/OCRemix/Dwelling of Duels.

But I did find this pretty awesome sounding one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d--BmgpL_Bw

edit: Quinnydinny, this is the type of coding the back room is looking for and that they currently only have 1 or 2 of at the moment: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11792567&postcount=21103.

I know you're interested and I know you know this stuff. Teach these fakers what it means to be a real time coder.

I think it was the 2nd link (first MP3). I don't think it's purely a Magus theme like I thought, which was what was probably throwing my searches off. It also explains why the lead guitars were doing their own thing, because now that I listen to it more carefully, it resembles a different tune from Chrono Cross.

That's still several hours away from us. Will you have a car there?

TH, teach me commentary! Yours is so good. I'm ripping everything I can from the stream to put on youtube so I can save it all.

That one is the Magus theme mixed with the Terminator 2 theme.
Haha I recognized the little ending bit as such, but I just wrote it off as a coincidence, as I don't usually see video game music integrate movie music as well.

Still, even if it's not intentional, something about that song reminds me of a Chrono Cross song

btw, my next duty station with the navy is in Norfolk, VA. :V
btw in two weeks I'll be in Dallas, TX :V.

I bet that's several hours away from you too.

Sure! I need a good co-commentator (Bandit and Waffle are great when they're focused, Bandit is especially good as a play-by-play commentator, but both lose focus a bit too easily). Honestly anything I garnered from casting was learned from by watching Day[9], particularly from his and D. Apollo's cast of Dreamhack and his web-show, the Day[9] Daily. I'm not sure how interested you would be in watching Starcraft 2 commentary though, but

But not all good commentary comes from him. Different people have different styles. I know when Bandit was doing his awesome play-by-play, you could hear alot of stylistic influence from traditional sports casters (I assume from baseball/football/wrestling). I guess the first real big step is to find any kind of professional commentator that you like for something you're passionate about or a commentator that you think would fit your style (even another Smash commentator if there's one for Brawl or Melee would do. But remember that there are alot of terrible commentators in Smash and in any fighting game really that don't do professional quality work), and just watch alot of their commentary and notice their voice inflections and how they present their subject material. There's alot more nitty gritty to it that I can give you a few pointers about, but that I feel is a huge starting point and was a great help to me.

I'm not sure how free you'll be at Pound V, but if you find some free time, I think I want to try commentary again at the event. Feel free to join me for as long as you can. I think actually commentating for the first time was a huge breakthrough, there's honestly nothing quite like it. I'm actually excited to hear some of my commentary again and analyze it to see what I can improve on.

The entire livestream got saved. You can find it here: http://www.justin.tv/thetantalus. I can only put up videos of the approved characters and there are some other matches that were just too terrible to put up (Izumi vs Pink Fresh for example), so if you wanna hear your entire commentary you'll have to watch that.

As for Pound V, I truly doubt I'll have time to do any commentary. Next time we do a livestream smashfest though, we should all practice our commentary (whoever's not playing at the moment).

Bandit, are you gonna take another 6 month hiatus or are you gonna keep playing? Because I think you have the potential to be amazing (especially after seeing you **** Bionic and make EE ragequit) and I really wanna train you hardcore. There are some new Zelda tricks you haven't implemented into your game yet that I'd like to teach you.

So, you wanna play?
I can't guarantee anything. I am more open to playing, but I do get bored easily when just grinding against you and TH (no offense). I do like the new Zelda, and I'm already pretty comfortable with her though I know I can incorporate even basic melee techniques to make her much much better.

Let's just put it as I'm open to training and playing.

As far as commentating, you need to sit down and do commentary with Oliver and I. It's easy for us to throw you bones where you can easily throw in analysis, comments, or smarta-- remarks. I think because I was having so much fun commentating I played better because I was so loose and able to put on a show for the crowd.

After re-watching it, I think the #1 thing I can do to improve is carry a mic LOL. Seriously my tone was great when I was up close to the mic, but I was way too muted out when not in front of it. I sounded alot like Waffle.

Not that that's a bad thing of course ;). But I want to sound like me.

#2 would have to be completely ignoring the chat altogether during a match. Reading questions/comments during a match continuously left a huge gap of time where no one was talking, which is just awful, not to mention responding to questions on the stream is extremely jarring to watch from the point of view of an outsider just watching the commentary.

As for practicing commentary during livestreaming, I'm always cautious to do legit commentary during smashfests simply because we can only seriously discuss 3-4 players for so long, unlike in a traditional tournament, commentating is more dynamic because there are many more people to follow and analyze.

Negated by the fact that im going to VA in less than a week LOL.
I bet you're coming up here because you heard I was going down there and was scared I'd beat you in a Sonic Adventure 2 MM <_<.

commentary is much easier when you're not being distracted by attempting to run 2 tourneys at the same time ;)
Touche my good sir. And of course it wasn't just you who did it, we all did myself included, but I was regretting continuing Pokemon talk in the middle of the stream the whole time I was doing it. It seems extremely unprofessional and I personally wanted to cast a fairly professional sounding stream, which except for that bit more or less happened as reasonably as you can expect for a first time commentator for a fighting game.

How can you get bored grinding with me? I keep it extremely un-boring with taunt cancels moonwalks, waveshines, dragon dancing, and much more :).

At least you put on a good show though. While my commentary was fine for my first time, my actual tournament performance was god awful. I was screwing up all sorts of shine techs due to the changes in both the shine itself and the CONSTANTS for joystick sensitivity. I used my secondaries much more than I should have when I should've trusted more in my main.

Even though I still ended up getting top 7 out of 32, I could've easily gotten top 4, losing to Atomsk/Chu/JCz in losers. The day after I was playing much better though, but eh too little too late. I did pick out some things I could do to improve, specifically in the Falco ditto match up.

Next time, be prepared for the **** train ;).

TH, everyone's been talking about how much you've improved (most obviously technically). Shanus seems especially impressed. I really think you should reapply for the PMBR.

How can you get bored grinding with me? As TH said on the stream, I play about a bajillion characters.

But seriously, if you're willing, I will train you to be amazing. And if we do it at your house, we can livestream our training sessions if it would help. I dunno, would having an audience motivate you more?

Yeah I think that would be more my style of commentary, more of a consultant than an active commentator. Constantly talking and improvising and coming up with new things to say aren't my strong suits, to say the least. I'd be better off waiting to be tagged in for issues I'm knowledgeable about.

All in all though, it was a great tournament and I'd love to do that kind of thing again. Can't wait for the public release so I can start hosting tourneys again!

If you're implying that you're willing to play Project M, I'm down. I dunno what I'm doing over the next few weekends yet.

I bought something from Play-Asia and I got a $5 coupon code for my next purchase from there. Anyone want it? AFAIK that's still the best place to get a white gamecube controller.

Zard!

TH, you missed some epic livestream moments again tonight. A 2 stock comeback from Zard including a Dthrow spike for the win. We couldn't save it due to BR rules. Obv.

-----

Next time we do commentary, we'll try to go full on "serious" and ignore the chat during matches. It's just as fun and we can go off on crazy tangents between matches.

Man the Project M thread is painful to read right now...

Anyway, Bandit says he might be looking for a new TV show to watch so he asked me to list my favorites here. He's more into comedies than I am though.

Burn Notice - Currently my favorite show on television. It's about spies and there's plenty of violence, but in general it's actually a pretty light-hearted show, and definitely has its funny moments. And it's got BRUCE ****ING CAMPBELL!!! (which is why I checked out the show in the first place, but it ended up being so much better than that). It's also pretty educational and realistic when it comes to the spy stuff, which I absolutely love. The only downside is the fact that the main chick is fugly, even though they like to pretend that she's hot (as in, they even use it as a plot device sometimes).

Supernatural - This show is pretty unique. Horror is a rare genre to base a TV show on. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer without the tween humor (though it's not humor-free) and with much more hardcore horror/violence/action. Oh and (at least in the first few seasons) there's a new very hot chick every episode, and lots of classic rock as they ride around in their '67 Impala. All in all I love this show.

Lost - Indeed lives up to the hype. If it hasn't been spoiled for you yet, I highly recommend it. It is however quite long-winded and slow-paced and complex, so if you have a short attention span *glares at Bandit*, this show may not be for you.

Fringe - Same creator as Lost, interesting and sciency, not much else to say.

There are some older ones I like too, like Dollhouse (made by the same guy as Firefly), Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles (despite how cheesy it looks like it should be, it was actually really good), Spartacus (great plot, fast pace, ultraviolent because it was on HBO or something), and Jericho (about a small town after a nuclear attack on America, pretty interesting concept and good characters). I don't have to mention Firefly or House or South Park or Scrubs, everyone already knows how amazing they are.

Man I just realized, like 80% of the shows I like got canceled prematurely :c I hate TV networks.

Neither have I. The only thing I actually watch on a television set is football. Cable TV is obsolete, just like home phone lines and fax machines.

Yeeeep the P:M thread kind of sucks **** right now. But that's nothing new, it just happened to reach a new low.

One of my friends, Keith, recommended this show to me. I've generally liked most shows he's recommended to me, so I think I may actually check this out. I think Quinnydinny used to watch it too, which is another good sign that I'll like it.

Fringe - Same creator as Lost, interesting and sciency, not much else to say.
This is Colin/Cathy's favorite show next to Law and Order. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone except for the most scientifically obsessed.

As for TV shows...right now I'm only following 3, but one of them might be right up your ally Bandit: How I Met Your Mother. QD and another mutual friend of ours, Chris, introduced me to that show. It's been nothing but non-stop laughs and really well thought-out uses of its framing device (a long-winded story of a father telling his two kids the story of how he met their mother. It comes complete with anarchic order and unreliable narration played up for laughs). Barney will probably end up sealing the deal for you by himself.

I'm also watching Heroes and Smallville. I'm not sure how much you'd like either series, but I've been a comic book junkie since I was a little kid, so I tend to like superhero-based TV shows/movies.

But if you're in to comedy, check out How I Met Your Mother. I'd be very surprised if you didn't like it.

I am setup to get the first 5 seasons of How I Met Your Mother and the first 3 seasons of Big Bang Theory. I'll be looking into those other shows suggested soon except for Heroes and Smallville. My college roommate was big into those shows (along with awful show "24"). I got all I could handle then.

Quinnydinny likes Supernatural? +10 man points.

I used to watch Heroes but it got really stale for me.

ok story time. Back in college, both Heroes and Lost came out at the same time. They were big competitors (both on Monday night iirc). Most of my friends at the time were watching Lost so I said **** that, I'm watching Heroes. And it was pretty good, especially the 1st season, but the writers strike kinda ***** it and then it got stuck up its own ***. So about a year ago I decided to check out Lost and see what I missed, since I was lucky enough to not have it spoiled for me yet. I couldn't stop watching. It really beat the pants off Heroes. Whoops :embarrass:

Never seen Lost, I wouldn't know. The first season of Heroes is great though. It got a little worse, but still good in season 2. Season 3's first half is a little wierd, but I'm enjoying the Sylar Show during the second half of season 3. The friend that I'm borrowing these DVDs from says that season 4 is awful, so I doubt I'll see that.

Never seen Lost. No spoilers.

I'm still skeptical that it can stand up to Legion or Lost in Translation for the title of Worst Movie Ever.

Ok, so for any of you know are familiar with bad user BAD from the P:M threads, I checked out his equally mind-bogglingly, eye rapingly, brain meltingly thread here: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=293314

And I found one piece of gold within all that crap.

BAD keeps citing a relationship expert named Tariq Nasheed. I didn't really give a **** who he was until I saw this:

I'm buying his entire collection of books. The man's going to teach me how to be a ****ing pimp!

MD/VA Project:M Power Rankings:

1. Bandit (total win)
2. JCaesar
3. Chu (cause he lost to Peach dash attack on DL64)
4. myself
5. Tant when he plays MK
6. QUINNYDINNY
7. Kaiser
8. Tant when he plays characters who are not MK
9. everyone else
10. CTL in teams

Did I do it right? I hear this was the in-thing to do with games that don't need PRs right now like Brawl-

Wait I think I made an error. Tant with MK should be right below Bandit.
