Critique because I'm taking a break from my essay.
0:15 - Watch your spacing. You SHDLed straight into Marth's initial dash range, and got punished for it.
0:35 - One of the big things in Melee I learned was DO NOT TECH IN PLACE. Sure, at high level play, there are reasons to, but most of the time, that's just asking to get punished. It's slow enough to react to, and your opponent is waiting right there for it.
0:56 - Your spacing is really messy from when you get on stage to here. You keep getting pushed for attacking his shield, so don't do it.
1:05 - Marth's not at a kill percent, so I would have sat back (near center stage) and just kept lasering. No need to approach.
1:40 - Now you're just getting desperate, and getting punished over and over for it. Be patient. Don't just throw out Usmash in an attempt to kill - you want to make sure you can find a good situation to use it in.
1:43 - Stop attacking his shield. Fox isn't meant to be played like this, especially since Marth's grab range is huge.
1:45 - I question your choice of rolling here. You get punished by dancing blade immediately after, and it shows you just seemed more scared of the ledge. Just turn Fox around and you already have much more freedom.
1:51 - YEAH. PUNISH TRIPPING. WHOO.
2:01 - Lasers, lasers, lasers. Don't be so aggressive. You need to know when to pressure, when to retreat.
2:09 - You've gotten grabbed so many times this match it's almost ridiculous. Watch your spacing, especially against Marth.
2:12 - You rolled away from the ledge again, and got punished with the same move.
2:28 - You were too anxious to tech punish. If you're fast enough to see it, you can react to which direction Marth is going in and go from there. Just wait for a tiny, tiny bit.
2:38 - Should have sat back and lasered.
3:24 - Finally, there's some good variety in your play. Nair was used very well here.
3:59 - Marth's grab range, again, is ridiculous. You need to be Nair dropping behind him.
Not a bad match, but your spacing is poor and your aggressiveness is overboard. You keep trying to attack where you should be making him attack, you don't pressure nearly enough with lasers, you don't force him into bad situations.
Against Marth, you want him to be above you in the air at mid-high percents. Why? Because as long as you don't get hit by Dair, you're good. (And let's face it, Marth's Dair isn't exactly the best aerial for stage control.) Stop attacking shields, stop getting anxious, stop rolling away from the ledge.
I think you should try playing Fox more passive-aggressive, and see how that helps you. Laser whenever you're not doing anything so you can figure out the right spacing and when to stop for each matchup, and be aggressive when they're in a bad situation. Otherwise, sit back and SHDL your heart out.
