Yesterday, I watched a video on Blocked Content about Dragon King.

To refresh memories, SSB64 was called Dragon King: The Fighting Game before Sakurai added the Nintendo content. Since the game was very early in development, very little media has come out. Of this game, we have one character with a build similar to Captain Falcon's and a handful of screenshots.

I'd like to propose Dragon King as a character for Ultimate. I posted my thoughts on that video, but I'd thought I'd post my thoughts here also.

Fighter #: 00
Series Symbol: Smash Bros
Victory Music: a straight port of the jingle that plays when completing a stage in SSB64's 1P Game
On-screen appearance: Master Hand flies by and drops him onto the stage as a homage to the intro of SSB64.

He would be polygonal as if he was pulled straight from the SSB64 era and some of his palette swaps would be based on the colors used for the character in the screenshots of the Dragon King game. His "voice" would be like Mr. Game & Watch with sounds based on SSB64 including the sound he makes when he hits the blast line.

If he were to be announced as a playable character, I think he'd make an excellent choice for the final revealed character.

bit odd for some whos repeatedly said they hate tp
I know, but TP Link's design is damn good, and he was in Smash already, so my feelings on the TP-SS era doesn't get in the way of that.

I'd rather not see Echo Fighters who are basically just "alternate version of their base character". If Zelda is getting an Echo Fighter, it shouldn't be Twilight Princess Zelda, Toon Zelda, or Ocarina of Time Zelda... it should be a different character entirely like Twili Midna. Because isn't that partially of the purpose of Echo Fighters, to get characters like Chrom, Ken, and Daisy into the game who otherwise couldn't be in due to time constraints?
The reason I want OoT/TP Link specifically is because his animations and moves both are quite different from current Link.

Given that Ultimate reused a lot of the models and animations from Smash 4 by Sakurai's admission, it wouldn't even take that much work.

I could give or take an OoT/TP Zelda echo on her animations alone, though.

I still think the only echo that's absolutely needed is TP/OoT Link for Link. ALBW echoes won't fly.
Honestly that would be amazing. Regular bombs, maybe elemental arrows, Hookshot grab, Z Air and we already have a great Echo Fighter.

I also really want Impa, but wouldn't be upset about the Hero of Time either. He's a classic after all. They could also easily make the Hero of Twilight an alternative to him.

My textures got corrupted, so I'm starting my Pig Ganon character concept from scratch.

I'll get him in armor soon.

I think people are looking at things backwards with a lot of talk about echoes.

It seems more like they're looking at the characters that are already in the game and trying to match people to them so they can have echos rather than looking at characters they really want in the game and how to implement them.

Don't be thinking "Who could be a good echo for Wario? How about Booster?" Think more along the lines of "Booster is a great character. I wish he'd get in the game. Probably the easiest way to do it would be to make him a Wario echo."
(Except that's a bad example becaus3e nobody really wants Booster.)

Precisely, that’s why the mentality that we NEED to have an echo for EVERY character in the game is wasteful because it creates a lot of filler rather than genuinely good choices.

But I actually DO want Booster...
Ya know I am a SMRPG fan so seeing him would make me happy and the other SMRPG fans as well
I always thought having a 2nd SMRPG character other than Geno would be impossible but with echo being introduced I felt there is a chance for both Boshi and Booster if that’s the only way we could have more SMRPG rep after Geno

Yesterday, I learned that the Ice Climbers are called Pepe and Nana in German.

I think most of these echo lists are made just for fun and everybody would definitely choose a pack of original characters over a pack of echo fighters.

I don't see how Booster could be a Wario clone. Neither character has anything to do with the other besides looking kind of similar.

Because Popo in German means or at least sounds like...an improper word.

Popo in Spanish, when you pronounce it with an emphasis on the second syllable, sounds like the word for "poop", so I've never been able to take his name seriously (not to mention Nana's, which in many languages is like your grandma or aunt). I always call them the Ice Climbers or Icies.

It was just a random example I pulled out of nowhere. Don't think too much about it because I certainly didn't.

To me, it's the character that's the important part, not how they play.

If I had to pick between my top character choices as echoes or new character that didn't play like anybody else, I'd have to go with the echoes. I'd LIKE them to be original characters, but you take what you can get. Of course I'm one of those people that doesn't view mii costumes as "an insult to a character that deserves more" so maybe I'm just weird.

Popo in German really isn't that improper. It's generally more like a word that you'd hear a small child use, but it's nonetheless understandable why they'd change it.

That's a cool opinion though. I get that some people feel disappointed their favorite character didn't get in as a fighter. But a Mii costume is not an insult at all! In fact, that could mean the particular character could get in next game.

I know that Popo apparently means "butt" in German, so they changed it. What confuses me is that they went with Pepe. That's sooooooo lame! How about Papa & Nana?

itd be like making ganondorf a clone of captain falcon, which is probably the excuse most people would use

That's something I wish more people understood. So far we've had five characters that were either assist trophies or mii costumes be added to the game. :ultdarksamus::ultisabelle::ultlittlemac::ultkrool::ultchrom: were all either assists or costumes in the past. So when people say that being an AT/costume is a seal of fate for a character, they could be very wrong.

I really dislike the Assist trophy graveyard meme. Rather if its done for laughs or just generally, Its a big speculation turn off.

Not surprised Golden Sun and F-Zero are near the top, but the disrespect towards MOTHER/EarthBound's status as a neatly wrapped-up series saddens me.

Well there doesn't need to be a new game for a franchise to be revived. A remake would be enough for a series to be considered revived without messing up the canon. I dont know enough about Earthbound/Mother, but maybe even a spinoff could work.

boy people sure are quick to bury franchises
I'd argue most of the franchises here are either dead or dying. Kid Icarus hasn't had a game in 7 years and Punch-Out's last game was on the Wii. Everything else is either in the same situation or worse.

Some people are just impatient. Hades revealed at the end of Uprising the release date for the sequel: 22/03/2037.

When people say this they're talking about for that particular Smash game. Little Mac didn't get upgraded in Brawl and Isabelle didn't get upgraded in Smash 4.

Some people don't want to wait another 4-6 years just to see their most wanted still being an assist trophy yet again.

Waiting for the next Smash game seems to be at the heart of the current problem. Due to how spaced out they often are with Smash releases, it could take over half a decade to get another Smash game, and they're not gonna start development of the next one until DLC is finished. Right now, they're wasting my time with a Fighters Pass I have little interest in, and if something doesn't change afterwards it will end up being being 4 years of standby unfulfilled. At what point should I expect things to get better?

The only problem is you're looking at not getting your absolute favorites it like it's a problem.

We all have characters we want and support, but you also have to be realistic and realize that those guys might not ever get into the game in any fashion. Don't let that ruin your appreciation of what the game does give you.

I didn't even know who a bunch of the characters in the game were until they made it into Smash. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy them and look forward to seeing new characters regardless of who they are.

If your wants are incredibly reasonable though, it can be pretty disheartening.

I agree with this. Toad, Dixie, Bandana Dee, Paper Mario and Waluigi are some of the biggest faces in Nintendo. You could say Rex and Springman are pretty reasonable too.

As much as I like someone like Vaati, Three House's Hilda or say Gooey to an extent, I can understand why they're unlikely and kind of unreasonable requests.

Honestly, Cranky Kong still absent is controversial to me. A fairly reasonable pick with lanky moveset potential. Lyn most likely failed due to favoritism and Samurai Goroh seems to have stood the test of memorability.

Favoritism? You know Sakurai's favorite FE is one of the Jugdral ones I think. Chrom was given a fairly raw deal in 4's trailer, so people wanted him.

Also, not sure about Samurai Goroh. Some people have issue with giving Black Shadow the Ganondorf moveset though, so my solution is to give it to Blood Falcon who is literally a clone of Captain Falcon, and finally give Ganondorf an original moveset.

Rhythm Heaven is dead?!?

(Also RIP poor Chibi-Robo)
It had an English installment only three years ago, and is certainly not a frequent installment series. Tsunku said he'd be open to a new Rhythm Heaven Switch on Twitter recently and the team only just finished up on Warioware Gold, released and still getting advertising last year. The whole handheld developers struggling to migrate to the Switches success after 3DS death might be a struggle but we'll see.

Isn't Samurai Goroh in every F Zero released? He isn't a one off at least. He'd be a legit newcomer pick. He fits the antagonistic role as Captain Falcon's rivalry and would have a potentially original moveset. I feel like Black Shadow is a overly discussed and gimmicky pick.
