I hope it's okay to make a thread about the Redeads, I thought we could discuss and share our experiences with these things. I know alot of people who were scared of them (Including me).

Tell you why, ages ago when I was like 15, maybe 13 or 14 first playing OOT ever. I remember placing the sword in and traveling to the future 7 years and came out to find the courtyard filled with these things. This was the first time I had ever seen one and didn't know what it was. Infact I thought they were the townspeople! Only they were either zombies or had become really skin and bone.

I ran up to one to see if I could interact and all of a sudden I hear this frightening scream and the Redead is jumping onto Link's back and well you know, sucking the life out of him.

Now I didn't know about the Sun's Song, so I didn't ever get that. (I think I went back into the past and got the song after learning about it on the internet, the trip down there wasn't nice either).

Second experience: Still early days when I played Zelda, you know when you are an child in Kakorio Village (How do you spell that?) and you place a bomb near that single tree at the entrance and you go into the hole where the two Redeads are?

Well I still didn't figure out how to kill them. By this time I had many weapons (I tried my best avoiding the Redeads, they scared me back then and still a bit scary). So I bombed them (Like one bomb, didn't know it took like two, shot arrows..
Then I used the Clawshot, that's right instead of hurting it the clawshot hooked onto the Redead and Link was dragged right into the path of the Redead where I ended up getting choked to death.

Well that's my experience with the Redeads, first one though (Now I just bomb/Din's Fire or Bomb Arrows/Sword depending which game I am playing). What about you?

I remember my first experience with ReDeads from Wind Waker, and I played WW before Ocarina, and they were pretty disturbing when they screamed and ***** you. They and the Miniblins were scary to me.

I knew the Redeads were on OOT and MM, but it was so funny when they danced whenever you wore the gibdo mask or the captains' hat. (On the latter is speculative, I'm not 100% sure)

And it was so beast on TP that you went for the juggular on the Redead warriors, it was like vengeance!! LOL

I hate those things. I remember back when I was like 7 or 8, and those things scared me, and I mean those redeads SCARED me. In fact, whenever I was in the presence of Redeads, I would put the TV on mute until I killed them. I wasn't afraid of the moaning, but those screams that they would emit whenever poor Link got too close to them. Now that I'm older, redeads don't scare me as much, but I still hate those screams. On a side note, I never realized those zombies were ****** link until recently. They're probably just eating his brain, but still.

Yup. They really creeped me out. I came upon my first one before I even got the Master Sword for the first time. It's a single one under a miscellaneous grave in Dampe's Graveyard. I thought it was a crying person and ran up to it and it ***** my head and I was forever scarred.

It's almost definitely not intended to be a literal **** attack though. That's silly. It looks like more of a suggestive neck biting thing.

let me add that the ReDeads in Wind Waker are a total joke. They look goofy as hell and instead of a piercing banshee scream they let out this high pitched elephant squeal. I honestly can't remember the ones in TP if they're even present at all.

The ones in TP were ruined because they were basically just Gibdos with giant swords called "Redead Knights". The scariest part about the N64 Redeads were their masks, easily. If they simply had zombie faces, they would not have been nearly as scary.

Blaziking- Oh yeah MM made me laugh more then be scared when I wore the mask, and the Mummy ones aren't even that scary (Although when you pierce them with a Fire arrow they turn into Redeads)
pickle- I did the same thing, always put it on mute and still do it. I think it's the scream and as Spire said the mask, it made them scary.

Persionally I think uncle rupee from tingle's rupee island is more scary than redeads (though they come close) simply because of his goal ( to turn every one into tingle's ) and powers ( to turn people into tingle's ). How is this scary? Simple. Think about it: Tingle Zelda, Tingle Link, Tingle Ganon, The Six Tingle Sages, Tingle Octrocks, even TINGLE REDEADS!!!!!!.

Don't speak of horrible fates. I can't imagine Tingle-Dorf, it'd be sad and confusing.

I was terrified of the redeads in OoT when you brought Link out of the Temple of Time's Sanctuary and into the dreary, debilitated castle village.

I remember the high-pitched screams, their numbers, and my just mashing buttons like crazy to get away from them or escape from their clutches.

Same goes for the Sun's Song journey, although I grew a bit braver with them later on.

Redeads scared the absolute **** out of me when I was like 9 years old. I first encountered them in OoT in the Graveyard under the tombstone. I didn't know what it was, so I ran up to it and proceeded to get eaten. I panicked and died because I didn't know what to do against those things. God, how that scream haunts me, even to this day... Another thing that scared me in OoT was the Ceiling Masters. Ooh, and the Dead Hands too... *shudders*

I started my LoZ fears in Ocarina of Time. First thing I was ever afraid of was the Forest Temple, because it was dark and had wallmasters. =P Yeaah.

I didn't even notice any redeads until I got to the water temple, when someone had told me to get the sun song... I went down there, and when I saw brown eyeless zombies standing in a room full of glowing green gunk, I was freaked out. So I... You know...

Ran right by them to try and get away.

Great idea right? No. I learned how freaky their screams were, and got to see what it was like when a zombie gnaws on your head like it's a loaf of bread.

In Majora's Mask, I went to the well, and wasn't too scared of the Gibdos. Someone had told me fire arrows killed them and gave you free access to the next area.

I was stuck in a small room with a redead. Wanna guess how that went?

Dead hands never scared me, because I never got that far in the game until I was some years older. But if I had seen them back then, I would have never played that game again until now. Lemme tell you.

EDIT: I was afraid of Redeads for a long time actually after I picked the game up again because I got the courage to fight them head on, but thought they were invincible after they didn't die as soon as anything else.

I was 7. You have no idea.
I second this.

I grew up with a fear of the undead. I have a feeling that Lavender Town and the freaking ReDeads had something to do with this.

Thank God for House of the Dead, no better way to eliminate a fear than to just put some bullets it's skull.

This. Oh so much this..my friend had the old prima game guide (with all the epic artwork and stuffs) so I knew that when I got to Karkariko I was supposed to find the Sun's Song in the graveyard. After a couple blanks I came acrossed the right one..

It was dark..and hard to see but in the second room..the FOG and the MOANING..oh the moaning...like zombies in my nightmares lol. I didn't realise you there was a path you could take that avoids them completely at the time lol.

So shield up and locked on the first one in my path. I edge closer...ready to mash the B button like there's no tomorrow. GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Link and myself became frozen with terror I think I dropped my controller when I heard that. And then started mashing everything as I watched in horror as Link was stuck petrified by the scream..the creature climbed on top of Link and started eating him alive.

The hearts slowly went down and I was hitting EVERYTHING to make it stop.

I let Link die for the first time ever in that cemetery. And I stopped playing for a while after that lol.

Man, I have seen horror, but when I came to OoT's Graveyard, I was like ehh. So, I came upon ReDeads, and you wanna know what happens after their screams, Link froze, I didn't, and I was only 4 years old. Suck on That.

Dead Hands, I only jumped, and I was 3 1/2 years old.

Wall Masters, foolish critters, I always knew how to beat them.

It came to Twilight Princess when the sword hit me, and I was WTF, and I saw a zombie, so I jumped after the swing. If only they swung sideways, like the Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2.

GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Live in Louisiana, I know creepy. Damn Honey Island Swamp Monster creepier than this. Watch Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet, Channel 49. Or wherever AP is on your TV. 49 is for Louisiana.

*shakes* The Banshee from Destination Truth and Scream of The Banshee creeped me out with their terrible scream.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Banshee Scream

Link to a certain game, and a certain site soon.

my first Redead was actually that one single one that is in one of the graves. I thought it was an NPC that I was supposed to help or give something to. Then it ***** my head and I was scarred for life. I never went back to that grave until just recently hahah

Things I was afraid of in OOT:

1. Jabu-Jabu's Belly
2. Redeads
3. Bottom of the Well (Redeads, Wallmasters, giant Green Bubble, the ability to suddenly drop two floors due to an invisible hole? Yeah... I'm not sure I even made it to Dead Hand as a kid.)
4. Wallmasters
5. The spiny things in the Water Temple (which is actually my favorite now, oddly enough) (Really, water levels in general are my foil. I blame the giant eel in SM64.)
6. The Moblins in Sacred Forest Meadow.
7. Peahats

(Surprisingly, not Shadow Temple. If I could have ever gotten that dumb Lens of Truth maybe I'd have had a chance to be afraid.)

No wonder I took so long to finish it!

My worst memory... Adult Link. Two teleport spells: Forest and Time. One exit involves passing through a roomful of zombies. The other involves passing through a roomful of giant orcs. I was like six at the time. Yeah...

The OoT Redeads were pretty scary... I have no idea why. I think it was more the sound effects and the scream than anything else.

The Twilight Princess Redeads really scare me, though. Please don't make me go through Arbiter's Grounds again!

OoT's dungeons don't really scare me anymore, but I can't go through TP's Arbiter's Grounds quite as easily.

The ones in Ocarina of Time? Horrifying.

The ones in Majora's Mask? (Technically Gibdos for the most part, but Gibdos are a sub-class.) Amazingly hilarious.

The ones in Wind Waker? Horrifying.

The ones in Twilight Princess? Intimidating and horrifying until you kill them in wolf form.

I HATE them and LOVE them at the same time. I hope they appear in Skyward Sword, they're like a staple of console zelda now. But if they ever become an enemy with multiple varieties, I will never feel safe from them again. xD

Seadeads. Sleep tight.

It's really hard to remember my first experience with the Redeads. I know I would literally have nightmares about them when I was really young though. Seeing as the game came out in 1998, I was probably 6 or 7. I would try to avoid them at all costs, eternally grateful for the Sun Song which I would use every time there was one nearby. Even now, I don't like them. I don't go to quite the extreme of dodging them as much as when I was little, but I still don't mess with them. It was always the Redeads and the Stalchilds, bad things happened at night/dark places in OoT.

that is why i say that OoT is the most complete game.

I experimented so many feelings, like happines, sadness, fear, angry, pacefull, mistery etc.

and now, of course, nostalgia is a new feeling
I agree, despite only making it to the Forest Temple steps when I was younger. But I think OoT was still lacking in a few things that the console sequels made up for.

The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess both introduced new levels of quality in different areas that OoT didn't have. But when it comes to what they induce in people? There's no comparison.

Not really sure what you're getting at, outside of "TP and WW are better"

What exactly is OoT lacking that was present in the gamecube games?

I'm not saying they;'re better, I'm saying they had things OoT lacked. The first thing off the top of my head being natural creative atmosphere.

OoT was basically temples. Or inside a living thing. Or a cave.

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess worked harder for natural atmosphere, which is a nice thing in a zelda game.

EDIT: On the other hand? OoT did a way better job of managing the field. Twilight princess did a bad job, and Wind Waker did an abhorrent job.

Well, basicaly, this is because OoT is a game that saw the light in a limitated console, is natural think about the limitations.

WW is very beautifull, the colors are so bright and have many creative cultures. TP have a good atmosphere, i like how the temples looks,

to be honest, i like how TP looks, the only thing that really boders me is how easy the game was for me :ohwell: and the desing of hyrule field.

EDIT: On the other hand? OoT did a way better job of managing the field. Twilight princess did a bad job, and Wind Waker did an abhorrent job.
i agree, is very boring explore the sea in WW, only the curiosity gives to you a reason

about TP...

1) Hyrule field is so much big. but the creators didnt know how to use that space, i mean, maybe a little town (without load times, the town are just 3 or 5 little houses) in the Hyrule field or travelers - people who are moving for example, from kakariko village to the lake hylia to have a nice fishing day (this can be some kind of sidequest), those kind of thing that could give more live to the game.

2) Also, i dislike the bad desing of hyrule, i mean, pay 20 rupees for a chiken and jump from a roof, is the only way to get on foot to lake hylia??? or, pay 20 rupees, for being shoted in a giant canon is the only way to get on foot to the desert?? also, how the normal people cab go to fishing or play the braking jars game (with the bombs arrows) in the top of the zora river if the only way to get there on foot is as a wolf and being carried for a bird???

also, whay are so many holes in hyrule field??
i have the felling that i am in a floating island when i am passing for the big part of hyrule field ( where you have the first fight with king bibbling)

this is, in one word, ridiculous. i always hated this point .

I always wonder why they only tried having a very populated world in one game in the series so far.

Say what you will about Zelda 2, but it is more populated than any of the other games except maybe barring LttP. Sure, I admit, all 6-7 towns look alike in Zelda 2 but still. More than any other game, THAT world seems huge and like an actual kingdom/world.
