I think it's pretty silly how all the pro-melee people aren't even giving Brawl a chance to grow (it's been out...what 2...3 months? Jeez). You're all so concerned about 'how it will fail' or 'it will fail' 'MELEE FOR LYFE!1' why don't you just enjoy what the scene is like right now. Smash64/Melee/Brawl whatever it is, it's all smash. Why do you guys gotta act like you're against one another or you wanna TAKE OUT one game vs. another?
If Brawl fails, it will fail on it's own terms not by you guys "putting up a fight" or "trying to save it". Who cares. Melee will get love regardless, but all you guys sound like is, I GOT BEAT AT THIS NEW GAME OMG IM GOING BACK TO MELEE! I guess you guys felt like that too when Melee started huh? I think it just boils down to you guys feeling superior with Melee and not accepting that someone lower in Melee might've beaten you in Brawl. IMO we all know the certain amount of you trying to bring back Melee are amazing at it. It's pretty understandable you'd want it back cause you guys were still growing and getting to reach for the top.
Quite honestly I WANT to go to a big Brawl tourny, I want to enter more tournies for Brawl. I know this isn't about one person's voice, cause really my opinion doesn't matter in the long run. But I just wanted to throw it out there because everyone's opinion counts. And IMO there shouldn't be any compromising for Melee, because it's SMASH for crying out loud. See what the majority wants that's all, I still think Melee fests are the way to go because I don't think Power rankings and other crap even matter at this point in Melee.

It's a shame all these little posts went up. Rockin and I's epic responses aren't going to get read by the people who need to read them. I'm considering consolidating information into a post.
well i place well either way ... so i dont care if we can't save melee ... but actually its not just that ... its the point of how broken a freaking sheild has become ... imagine marth in melee with ******** sheild grabs ... amazing huh ... well now its a penguin with ******** marth grab range lol ... i mean if u guys dont' see how annoying this game is yet ... i dunno ... but in reality i'm going to come either way ... i am totally free friday nights ... and i have fun hanging out with my friends whom i hang out with outside of smash ... which is majority of swat ... but i just can't see this game having ... epic crew battles like we have at FC ... its just ... too bland ... i mean look at the crowd watching pc and cort vs. ray and steiner ... there were like 10 people watching ... after 2 freaking minutes they disappeared ... cuz nothing amazing happens in brawl ... its pretty boring to even watch ...

yea i was kinda this close to quiting gaming cuz of something in my life.
im just posting this to tell you guys i no longer care about either brawl or melee. vanz ur gonna hafta take it from here. im just gonna go to the weeklys but not stay for too long. i might eventually stop coming.

Seems like most of the Melee community strived on technical ability, which doesn't look promising for Brawl, and in effect, mindgames will also suffer. As for spacing, well, that's how you win now. Brawl shouldn't be wiped out, but for more competitive players, it's not worth the effort, unlike Melee back in the day.
Brawl is limiting us in the way that we loved to play. Even if we do give it a chance and it does develop, it's not going to develop into what we want it to. It's all just preference.
Besides, even if Melee (bi)weeklies get going, no one's going to force anyone to go to them. Defending compromise is okay, but if we don't let it play out by itself, it's like saying you want Melee to be "phased out". We'll just see how it turns out.

Alukard you are completely wrong about grabs.
They DON'T have super armor. Get hit from behind while grabbing and you will fly off. Getting grabbed while taking damage is just because grabs "trade hits" instead of outright beating attacks like in melee. The thing is grabs are faster in this game so it happens more often.

no.. when first started playing melee, and i got *****, it definitely made me want to play more. when playing brawl, i'm thinking "****, can we put melee back on now?"
the game's already gotten as good as it's gonna get. i wish everyone would understand where we're coming from.. forcing a sucky game on a lot of people who know it's sucky is going to cause drama. and its like u guys are saying "don't complain, accept it.."

WOOT TO PARRY IN BRAWL in every good fighting game theres a way if ur shield or block is being ***** u can counter in soul caliber it was pressing forward with guard in third strike its parry and NOW in brawl its power shield the parry of smash the breaker of camp and spam and the demolisher of stupid blatant mid jump or dash attacks coming at u lol those that dont see it coming get punished lol

shields may be ******** in this game but you were talking about grabs. Melee grab mechanics make it so in the same situation the grabber wouldn't even TAKE damage. That's the point. You were complaining about how gay something was when it was even more advantaged for the grabber in melee. I don't mind brawl bashing but it gets ridiculous when you look for dumb **** to talk about (especially when it's not even the case). What's next "zero suit samus talking is out of character"? Like I don't care if vanz says "i hate the camping/tripping/no comboes" or some valid thing like that but yeah I HOPE you get my point by now.

I honestly don't know what to do, lol. I've been trying to play melee again recently, but I am so rusty. Just because I still beat people that doesn't mean I'm not rusty as hell, lol. I feel like I'm having so much trouble regaining my melee skills that if I finally do get them I'll lose a lot of my brawl skills. So it's really difficult to go back and forth between two different games that have the same general concept.
At least for me ;/

play melee more then brawl. in tier and my experience brawl ****s up your melee but melee doesnt **** up your brawl. you just hafta remember the certain things you cant do in brawl you could do in melee i.e wavedash, combo, not trip randomly, crouch cancel, 4 stock someone with pure skill.I honestly don't know what to do, lol. Idk bout brawl effin up your melee. I mean, it kinda made me more patient, and then better at just tryin to catch my opponent's movements (but I guess that was just a skill that I lacked before lol).
But yeah, going from melee -> brawl aint too hard.

I think the reason people are trying to do this is because without any effort, melee just isn't going to happen anymore. I mean, look at NYC, when was the last time an event was held? Not once. Look at more of the east coast, and you will find that the only melee tournaments left are the ones that are fighting: SPOC (Scar=hardcore melee advocate), Smashtastrophe (Mogwai and other mini-bosses= also big melee advocates) and The Tunes Bi-weekly (Eggm= hardcore, and rest of crew, are hardcore about melee)
Its not that we mind people playing brawl, if it were a totally different community that were playing it, as if it were a whole different game. But it isn't. Its melee's finest, which is already a pretty small community compared to many games, are dedicated to a whole new game. That means that melee enthusiasts have no one left to run tournaments with. (other than a few swat members, no one really plays melee anymore in NYC)
What we want it to play melee. We don't mind playing both, but both isn't even going on anymore. And if we are gonna get melee players back to melee, and there are limited dates/venues, there is going to be a bit of competition between the two games because we are all one community.
So right now, brawl and melee can't coexist. And the only people keeping melee alive AT ALL on the east coast is NJ/PA. That is why people like plank, wife, and other md/va players have to come all the way to us to get some melee.

Jfox, in this thread there is blantent hate for Brawl. It's not about "Well we love both", it's kinda like this elitist attitude, it's even happening at the weekly's for Brawl as we speak. It's annoying, to say the least. And it kinda makes me not want to play Melee. And a lot of people act like it's ruining their lives to have Brawl around. And right now mostly in NYC there is a hostility because the Melee people can't deal with Brawl and it's just making it unfun at least from my POV.
That's my problem with it all, it's literally something based off of negativity. And Brawl was something inevitable, whether we all liked it or not. And I think (at least for me, once again) I would want to play Melee more if everyone made their attitudes more enjoyable to be around. Crismas, I can agree with your POV, however, it takes a leader to cut the crap. I honestly don't enjoy Brawl as I should because I don't have "smart" players to play with, so I deal with ******** playing which is kinda hard to punish with Brawl. Since most people like to abandon the old for the new, it's frustrating. To be honest, the ones who are a bit childish are the Brawl enthusiasts. They just want the glory. Brawl is fun, but it can be frustrating, and if I can hear that from scrubs and newbs in my area, that's saying something. Even they can see that Brawl is rather annoying. I play Brawl to humor, but unless it's with a smart player, I don't enjoy it in the least. It's even more frustrating when I win....which is most of the time.
