Cool vids. I see the fighting game tradition of the unbearable announcer continues, haha.

Holy mother of god the announcer is so much more terrible. Plus I'm not too much of a fan of the new portraits so far. (Only have seen Noel's and Tao's.)

EDIT://
HOLY **** TAO IS AMAZING?!

Best announcer in fighting game history evar /sarcasm
But yeah, this announcer's pretty bad.

I don't know why, but I'm one of the people that like the new portraits.

And man... I'm going to have trouble relearning all these matchups with the new Rachel.
I'll probably be playing CS less than CT. Good thing I've been playing more Guilty Gear lately.

EDIT: Watching more matches of Rachel, she isn't really terrible. She'll just have a lot more harder matchups. I'll miss her insane rushdown in CT though.

so there's a tier list, but I'm way too tired to copy it over, basically:
Metaknight: Bang
Snake: Litchie
Diddy Kong: Ranga
Falco, Wario, DDD: Arakune, Carl, Tao
other people
Samus: Noel
Link: new girl
Ganon: Rachel

This is a tier list for CS?

A tier list for a game that ISN'T OUT YET?

OH WELL THAT'S LEGIT.

EDIT: Ok, so I found the thread on Dustloop.
http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7789
In the second paragraph, the thread creator says in ALL CAPS that it is DEFINITELY NOT A TIER LIST and that it is just DAY 1 IMPRESSIONS. gj reading dip****.

That said, there are several preliminary unofficial tier lists.

If we average the three lists we get this:

TOP TIER
1. Bang
2. Litchi

HIGH TIER
3. Ragna
4. Carl
5. Hakumen
6. Taokaka
6. Arakune

MIDDLE TIER
8. Jin

LOW TIER
9. Lambda
10. Noel
11. Hazama
12. Tager

BOTTOM TIER
13. Tsubaki
14. Rachel

This isn't good for Rachel. I was expecting a nerf like Ky from #Reload to Accent Core, but this is pretty bad.
I'll still stick to Rachel, regardless. I don't think she'll be advancing in the tier list once they figure out some more combos.
If she does, it won't be by much.

doesn't look like Jin has moved much, I just wish that they would make CS a DLC thing instead of releasing another game for it :/

It couldn't possibly come as DLC. There are some drastic changes to the system, and Arakune is nearly completely redone. If it came as DLC, it would likely come with huge erros as the two seperate codes clash with each other.

Yeah I'm personally glad they are making it another game.

I agree with whoever said the thing about Rachel. Not broken, she sucks. That's kinda' everyone's mindset, she's just a lot different, people are gonna' have to relearn her. She isn't near as rush down as she used to be.

I am excited to be able to wind George though, easily.

On the subject of relearning, a lot of people are saying that it is very likely that Litchie and Ranga are not that good, just that they are unchanged for the most part, and thus can be used very easily.

Berial Edge is great for Ragna, that move alone really complimented his combos and makes for some good 3-3.5k combos.

The thing about Litchi is that she's not straightforward, she has a lot of subtle things that only people who played her all the way through CT know about, and none of them have been taken away - that's what let her keep up in the last game. Take that and add all the buffs the gave her (most obvious, but I bet she gets new secret stuff too) and higher damage output from the get-go, and you have a better character. I can see her staying strong throughout CS. Bang and Ragna are likely to go down though (more Ragna than Bang, at least Bang has bumpers).

She currently stands as Arakune's worst match up.
Code:
\ | Ragna||  Jin  ||  Noel  || Tager ||  Taokaka  || Rachel || Arakune || Litchi || Carl  || Bang  || Hakumen || Lamda || Tsubaki || Hazama|
蟲|  5.5  ||  5.0  ||  5.5   ||  5.5  ||    5.0    ||   6.0  ||   -.-   ||  3.0   ||  4.0  ||  4.0  ||  5.0    ||  3.5  ||   6.0   ||  5.5  |

Donkey Kong.
Noels drive changes alone leave a lot of things to be discovered 6D went form being nigh useless aside from hoping for a corner hit, to useable. 4D is so much faster, as is optic barrel.

Her lack of mixup is what hurts her, but once we get frames on which drives are safe that could be remedied slightly. Her damage is poor too, but already they're discovered a new 'haida loop' of sorts that can do up to 4.4k.

I'm holding onto Noel, but Hazama also interests me a lot.

A Fatal Counter is a counter attack with special properties from a normal counter.
Only on certain attacks on Counter hit, a Fatal counter prorates damage less in the combo and add 2 frames of untechable time for the duration of the combo.

So in english, a fatal counter sets you up for bigger/custom combos that deal more damage.

-----insurmountable Wall-----

High
Ragna

Mid
+ Tao, Hakumen, Carl
O Hazama, Jin, Arakune
- Tsubaki, Tager, Lambda

Low
Noel

-----insurmountable Wall-----

Bottom
Rachel

Reasons:

Arakune - Potential Is There; Very High Damage Combos And Strong Everything When Curse Is Active; However, Due To How Easy It Is To Stay Blocking Forever Thanks To The Guard Primer System, He May Have Very Few Chances To Do Any Damage Even If The Opponent Does Get Cursed; Probably The Character That Can Fluctuate Most From High To Low

Bang - Fast Jabs; Better Damage; New B Nail Solves The Running Out Of Nails Problem; Stupidly Fast And Safe Reversal Super; Strong Mixups With Command Throw, Double Airdashes, And Crossup Kick

Carl - No Clap Loop And J.2c Overhead Nerf Hurts; However Punch Loops Allow Him To Continue Pressure And Have Many Mixup Opportunities/unblockables; The Overall Damage Nerf Across All Characters No Longer Lets Him Die In 2 Combos; Volante And Ch J.c Are Very Nice Additions; Definitely A Contender For High Tier

Hakumen - Escaped The Damage Nerf; New 4c And J.c Are Great Pokes For Zoning; Projectile Bubble Is Helpful; High Hp And Auto-meter Gain Allows Him To Hold Onto Leads Very Well; Still Has Difficulty Catching Opponents; Poor Mixups; Strengths Generally Outweigh Weaknesses Enough For Him To Be A Contender For High Tier

Hazama - Strong Zoning And Great At Escaping Pressure; Ib > Reversal Super Is Great With High Damage; Fairly Good Mixup Game That Only Has Room To Improve; Flip Kick Reversal Is A Relatively Safe 'dp'; Low Mobility Without The Chain And Seems To Have Trouble Dealing With Characters Up Close; His Damage Has Improved With Time; Could Possibly Be High Tier

Lambchops - Low Damage, But Zoning Is Still Strong And Reversal Gravity Well Gives Her Good Aa; New Act Parsers Are Good Offensive Tools For Mixups And Pressure; Leaning Toward Low-tier, But Specific Matchup Advantages May Overcome That

Litchi - Improved Damage; Long Range High Priority Normals For Any Situation; Combos Off Any Hit Extremely Well Into Full Bnb For Knockdown And Oki; Staff Covers All Her Approaches; Better Shishin; Rc-able Tsubame; All Combos Lead To Corner; Can Use Super Meter To Trap Opponents In The Corner And Make Her Oki Incredibly Safe And Damaging

Jin - Seems To Be More Defensive Now With Less Ability To End Combos In Knockdown And Oki; New J.c Is A Great Zoning Tool; Pretty Solid But His Tier Placement Depends On How Much Is Discovered About The Others Rather Than On What He Can Do To Improve It; Probably Mid-high

Noel - Damage Isn't High Enough To Justify How Unsafe It Is To Approach With Her; Short Range (tsubaki Is Just As Fast With Better Range And Safer Rushdown Imo); No More 2d Overhead; Greatest Strength Seems To Be Air-to-air Jabs For Low Damage

Rachel - R.i.p.

Ragna - High Damage Meterless Combos Let Him Save All Of His Meter For Rcing Unsafe Moves; Belial Edge Allows Him To Have Good Positioning After Air Combos Now; Great Normals (2c Greatly Improved); Not Top Because He Can't Cover His Approach With Projectiles Like The Other Two, More Predictable Mixups, Low Health

Tager - Damage Is Relatively High; Slightly Better Aa; Easier To Magnetize Opponents; Throw Setups Are Stronger/require More Guessing; Backdash Seems To Beat Most Of His Options Aside From Spark Bolt; Still Easily Outranged And Zoned By Long-range Or Speedy Characters With Good Normals (most Of The Cast); Might Still End Up Low-tier Due To Certain Bad Matchups But Not Nearly As Bad As Ct

Taokaka - Relatively Unchanged; Good Mixup Potential And Strong Combos; Still Lacks Good Oki And Decent Aa; Taunt Loops Make Her A Strong Contender For High Tier

Tsubaki - Speedy With Decent Range; Strong Ground-to-ground And Air-to-ground; Ok Aa Options But Terrible Air-to-air; Gains Heat Meter Quickly; With Charge Meter, Specials Make Her Threatening From Any Range; Charge Cancel, Fast Overhead, And Long Kara-throw Give Her A Strong Pressure Game And Decent Mixup Potential; Low Average Damage Without Charges; Has Average Damage With Charges But Difficult To Find Chances To Charge Against Fast Opponents; May Need To Forego Oki To Build Charge Meter; Install Has A Lot Of Potential For Damage/mixups, But Has Yet To See Widespread Use; May Possibly End Up Being Low-tier

Poor Noel. I understand why they did what they did, but still... ouch.

The more I see of CS, the more it looks like Guilty Gear. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it feels like BB is starting to lose what makes it BB.

That's because everyone complained about the BB system and in a nutshell wanted it to be more like GG.

I always imagined that BB would become more like GG as time went on. CT was to bring people into the system, and CS and future versions will refine it (read: gradually make the game more like Guilty Gear).

That's basically the goal of SF4 and Blazblue, make the games easier after 20 or so years of the games continually getting harder and harder and more complex as time went on, then gradually work the way back up again. I know Arksys SAYS that both themselves and SEGA are fine with them working on GG, but for some reason I doubt it.

Regardless of that, I still don't see the game as a striaght take from GG. Yeah, there are some similarites, but I don't see most characters as a straight take off of the game. You can definetly feel the Slayer in Hazama, what, with the special being similar to one of Slayer's forced breaks. But he also plays very different from Slayer at the same time. Same thing with Jin to Ky and Ranga to Sol. Arakune is no Eddie (thank god). And I'm not even sure who to compare Lambada too, though Accent Core's version of Testement comes to mind.

I haven't played Continuum Shift yet, but it doesn't seem too GG to be after the tweaks in the mechanics. They might share some things, but GG still has it's own unique feel, IMO.

And after seeing some more videos of Rachel, she isn't as terrible like some of the early vids I've seen. That doesn't mean she's decent yet either. I'm still sticking to her, but I would like it if she'd be a fun character. I don't want to play a character where all I get is frustration.
