Another western character who could be a deluxe mii costume is Master Chief (Halo). I think Spyro could be a semi-deluxe mii costume.
Not to mention Spyro's fame went down during the late 2010s.
Don't you mean that's when Spyro was brought back?
Just gotta wait and see if we'll get a next season, I imagine we won't know until we get to the presentation for the penultimate character or so.

When I say semi-deluxe mii costume, Spyro's mii costume would be similar to the Creeper and Pig mii costumes.
You would be surprised to find out who ranked number 1 among the 3rd party characters in that Melee poll:
That's what I had in mind, Pyramid Head (Silent Hill), which is a generic enemy, could be a deluxe mii costume. I would rather see Bill (Contra) as playable. To get back on topic, Crash Bandicoot being released alongside the aforementioned duelist (Yugioh) costume would still make sense to fit the pattern. And also, I think Yugioh can get content in Smash without getting any actual Yugioh characters included in Smash in any form.Q*bert, since it was published by Konami in Japan

There is no way Microsoft will just hand over Chief like that. Just because they have been friendly with Nintendo doesn't mean they will go that low. Otherwise, no one is safe from Mii including Crash.

Sora is an icon in his own right (albeit a smaller one compared to some of gaming's juggernauts).
and one of his skins right (in the opposite order than what others expected). At best, I only see one or two of those three characters get in the pass.

What's funny is that series with more sales like COD or GTA don't have characters anywhere nearly as iconic.Okay. After Crash and Chief, I think Lara Croft would be the next most iconic character missing from the roster. She did get a few Guinness World record titles including one for being the most renowned female gaming character:

Yea, it depends on how "iconic" we're talking here. There are tons of worthy characters to still be added, but in terms of megahits we still need Lara Croft (as you said), Jill Valentine, Scorpion/Sub-Zero (although that will probably not happen), and probably Heihachi.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. That post was not a leak:it was a wishlist. The thread it was in was a wishlist thread and there were dozens of posts like it. For all we know it’s just one person who is very happy so far. Doesn’t help it’s case that doomguy has been kinda deconfirmed due to nda stuff.
Lara Croft in the West is a clear front runner here. While her games don’t do as well in Japan, Tomb Raider is a huge influential franchise and if you asked someone to name a female video game character, she would be one of the first they mention. After her, I would say Dovakhin. Skyrim is huge and most people know the Dragonborn. I know a lot of people are big on Scorpion, but MK is a non factor in Japan.
May I ask how you know it's a wishlist? The thread I saw gave no clear indication if it was a list of predictions or wishes.

But you can't forget about Chun-Li or Phoenix. Especially Chun-Li since she's the most iconic female fighting game character. Her absence in the roster is as big as Tails and Eggman's.
I just want to say that I'm definately being cautious on this one, but I also think it's worth talking about at the same time. If it IS a prediction list then consider myself shocked. It's difficult to just brush that off.
Not many people want Chun Li I imagine. I could give you tails tho, I think shadow or knuckles is what people really want but he’s out of the running.
A lot of people would be happy if Chun-Li got in.
Nobody would hate Chun-Li, Tails (Sonic), or Crash Bandicoot's inclusions.
And then there's me, who wants Billy Hatcher in Smash...
Sephiroth was most likely added to fill in the massive content gaps Final Fantasy had compared to all the other franchises, Dragon Quest included.
Personally I don't care at all about anything Final Fantasy, But if that was the case I would rather had them include more content with Cloud's inclusion in exchange for taking back the latest DLC roster spot.
I think regardless of whether E3 happens, the pass was planned with two E3s in mind. Steve was probably planned as a big reveal for 2020's, and chances are good there's another big reveal meant for 2021's. Crash would be a top contender there
