My vote is no. I've not even met most of Alabama, and I go to a lot of Brawl tournaments (that I can) I don't see any reason for a merge.
Agreed
I really don't see any REAL REASON for a merge other than a "quirkyness factor"

I feel that for the most part many may take it to be only to appease some egos. But for the people that actually care....it's to make our communities better.

If we could just get more of Alabama to travel more then I could see this being a really nice addition.

a merged PR might increase the overall skill level of the players. For instance, if Dyno is not on the PR anymore because GA and AL merged, then he will work harder to be consistently better and other players around his level will have to keep up with him and improve just as fast.

It also gives players like elev8 a chance to be more well known. I barely know anything about the global brawl community, but elev8 seems like a less-known player for how good he is, and if other states see that elev8 is ranked 1st on a list with reflex, kismet, biglou, etc, then he will get more credit for it. I know that sounds like an ego thing, but hey... that's part of the reason for a PR.

I would like it if Elev8 could get some fame. That would probably take a trip to a few large events to do so though.

What is AL going to in August?
Apex? MLG?

Zero_Gamer is also from NC. Perhaps the two of you know each other?

Oh and welcome to the boards, I'm not sure if I got the chance to do that yet. xD

Basically the same thing, except replace "Alabama" with "Georgia"

Oh neat. Not sure on my plans when it comes to FAP. xD I don't even play Melee, but I'm sure it's an experience I don't want to miss.

All right I'll add your vote to the front. Where have you been?

I vote yay because I know a bunch of the georgia crew....sadly i'll say I know more of them than my own state :( and they also have the ability to draw a crowd. We set up tournaments and people say they will come but then back out 2 days before the tourney.... why because of the weather or some stupid convention that an Auburn player won lol. Also I have you know that they had Herb3 during a tornado, now thats dedication. Will you DIE for brawl, if not get out of our scene:laugh: J/K but my vote is still yes

Listen up, as stated multiple times in this thread Alabama and Georgia are considering a merge. We've shot the idea down a few times, but with our dying community and lack of tournaments, and their monthlies that people seem to actually want to attend instead of supporting Zero's tournaments....it appears the choice could be clear as day.

However, I'll ask the state. AFTER pointing out some critical points.

Some things I'd like to see for the upcoming tournaments.

NOT CALLING IT A GLORIFIED SMASH FEST
Not posting that you're interested if you KNOW you cant go.
No jinxing the tournament by saying "It's going to suck" (I mean if you have a feeling it's going to be bad joke about it among yourselves, don't post it on the boards so people who are actually interested start to second guess it).
The willingness to go the extra mile to make the community stronger.

-Have a nice day
i dont think any of these are the real problem dude.
the problem isnt us saying that it actually sucks.
it actually just does suck..
idk man

I'm not understanding how AL's community is dying and they don't go to their own tournaments due to lack of transportation (a similar problem as GA)
But they come to GA tournaments o.o

Not sure if you still play regular brawl, but there's no brawl + scene at Waba.

By the way; we need to scrap the AL rankings and make a AL/GA rankings. we don't have real tournaments besides the AU tournaments. I think it would be pretty cool to merge our scenes. Most AL players can make it to Waba, i think this would be awesome.
i like the idea

Transportation isn't the real problem. We have no reliable venue in AL except Auburn. & the Auburn crew can only host tournaments during school. I think this has become way more talked about than it needs to, but AL has no scene right now. That is the only reason why i proposed a merger...

So with that being said, would the merge be temporary? Like a seasonal thing while school's out.
And curious, never been to an AL tourney, how big are your tournaments usually? I only see the same few AL smashers come to tourneys here, a partial reason why I'm against a merge

No, the merge would be permanent if we did it.

We talked about hosting a tournament in Madison for a long time but never got around to it. Our smash group is so big in Madison already that I'd wager the tournament would at least draw in 30 people.

You should host one (not on the same day as Waba), and I can try and get GA to come, too

Well, this weekend would be too early to announce a tourney. Waba is on the 3rd Sat and CB is on the 2nd Sat. So I guess anytime after Waba's monthly.

Even with the merge, it's not like we can't have a PR still seperate for the sake of having one.

:|

a lot of you guys are thinking if we merge we won't have the original PR we worked on, this isn't the case at all. The merge is just asking if we should be considered a united force when it comes to regional tourneys. In most cases we should be, considering we already do that wherever we go.

Why not have 3 PRs where AL has their own, GA has their own, and one where we merge?

if this happens, you have my vote for the merge
simply because the light has been shone on me for AL's situation, and I might still have an opportunity to get on a PR :D

you know, I really. REALLY. Feel like I've said this already.

I am up for the merge if you would appoint three panelists for the AL tournament scene, along with someone (can be a panelist too) who will take the time to get information together for the AL scene, look at my first post in the GA Brawl PR thread to see what I mean.

I do feel that Reflex, Billy, and someone else would be three good choices for an AL panel. I would like to say elev8, however that is just me choosing him because he's a good player, not exactly because he's extremely active (which in actuality he is, so eh :| )

The reason i say no to a merge is only cause idk how often AL can actually travel to Georgia and vice versa. The panel i'd like to have is Elev8, Reflex, Billy, Lounis, Rayku, and U(Jamaal). I feel these players wouldnt be biased towards their region and they are all very active.

I think the idea of 3 PRs would be neat, but in vain. If we keep our state ones people could lose the urge to travel and the urge to get better.

<3 Cam is going to jump start the AL scene for us guys. Lets hope it goes far from there.

This is true turtl, however not every tournament has to be used for regional discussion, because let's face it, not many tournaments have a huge amount of players. Some have 10, some have 40. If we designed four to five tournaments out of the season that will be used for rankings (probably more actually, for more accurate results, we probably would have a ranking change bi-yearly). Our region along with theirs can prepare for these events. If it's bi-yearly, that's six tournaments a session, one a month; preferrably late in the month.

Each person can either save up via job or parental guidance, some money to come to these designated tournaments. Alabama has already confirmed that truth be told they don't have a stable tournament venue, so chances are georgia would be used for most of the season anyways (I mean, reflex has been joked around as being considered a georgia player for his activity here, and recently elev8 could be considered the same way.)

tl;dr - I don't think this season will have a problem if we make it as neat and organized as possible (in other words, confirm what tournaments will be used, and which will note, when the tournaments will be, and where they will be)

@kola - it is your choice to continue having the PR, GA feels very strongly about knowing how they fair against other members, therefore we will probably have ours. Our top 5-10 are very tight knit and change often.

We'll find another person, on top of this we will have to make a new thread for this since Rayku was the original OP.

I don't agree with the current panelist. They're all really dumb and stupid and don't pay attention to anyone. Especially that Jamaal kid, he's the worst of them. IMO there should be one and only one panelist, even if we merge this panelist should stay. This panelist has definitely proved his worth with intellectual post and strong tournament results. Something that Jamaal cannot seem to do, or any of the panelist for that matter...ESPECIALLY JAMAAL.While there is only one panelist he will make the PRs to be however he wishes because he obviously knows what is best for the GA/AL PR, he gets to make ALL of the decisions. Who is this panelist whom I speak of? His name...is Yiff.

I think we should merge, we would have one hell of a crew.

But really, if merging would at least give a pick-up to the scene, we should do it. GA won't have to travel that far (AU are our only large tournies), and AL already does travel.

Best of luck to that. xD How far is Madison from Birmingham anyway?
