Byron, and hopefully JMIX (Mario/Luigi, you should know that), Da Bomb (Link, ZSS, ICs), WUMP (new guy, very good with Ness), Vyse (Tink), and the like.
Man i hope you could get all those ppl to come. All those players could help in showing some life to the AL scene :)

he's the one that showed me that none of mario's moves are punishable

i'm most likely going to have to fight aloha and george at this because that always happens

I feel like I'm in an eternal cycle of enjoying brawl, then going to brawl tournaments, then hating brawl, then not playing brawl for ~ a month, then giving it another try, and then repeating the cycle. I'm currently on my third cycle of this at the "hating brawl" portion.

play a character that doesn SUX den you will like the game more lawl

you're too used to peach being **** in melee

j/k

my enjoyment of the game is directly proportional to my skill level. if i reach a plateau which i have a few times, i start getting bored and frustrated.

so i just strive to get better and do better and it's worked out so far.

guys I am considering creating, just for informational and interest purposes, an Alabama matchup rankings, similar to Texas's power rankings. it is an objective scale based solely on how well players do against other players in the state, and ignores tournament placings.

Florida's rankings is also based on "player vs player" but its more informal and less mathematic

I dont think this is the best way to make a power rankings, but it could still be intereesting at the very least.

Salty after AUSOM? The pool was stacked. There is no shame there.

I'm down to do anything that keeps people in our state interested in playing this game :)

Our pool was not stacked, considering how many good players were there.
Our pool wasnt stacked at all, I'm just wasnt feeling it that day. Melee peach was calling me.

If you want stacked pools, you should have been at TO6. Everyone who plays melee nowadays is pro at it.

I really looking forward to beating ppl with Ike. I think he is really underrated. So who's going to the Daphne tournament? They are trying to bring interest from North Florida and Louisiana, so if it gets hype it should be worth the drive.

ght guys, i've started collecting data for an objective alabama ranking system
it measures how well you do against other alabama players and ignores how you do against out of state players and also ignores your tournament placings.
basically if you win, you rating goes up. if you lose, you rrating goes down.
if you lose to a high ranked player your score goes down less than it would against a low ranked player. etc you get the idea.

so if you run a tournament, it would be nice if you could provide brackets

also if you do a serious money match with an alabama players let me know.

i've collected all the data from gamebox and ausom, and thats only 2 tournaments, its gonna take a while for everything to flesh out...although its already starting to come together. the top four already are reflex, geo, elev8 and billy

naturally if you go to more tournaments you'll have a better chance at getting a higher ranking

also if you play more active alabama people you'll have a better chance too.

That sounds similar to something I suggested in May, so I agree with you that it could be a better system. I don't think we should subtract points though, I think we should only add points. Lemme see if I can find that post...

I kind of have an idea, but it's a work in progress, so be nice.

We distribute points based on who you beat. If you beat a non-PR person, you get 2 points. If you beat a PR person in the bottom 5 you get 3 points. Beating a PR person in the top 5 gets you 4 points. Beating a PR person from another state gets you 3 points. This could count for brackets and $5+ money matches. We reset everyone's points to zero every season.
That was just an idea I had about 6 months ago. I think a variation on adding points depending on who you beat would be effective. Also, I think beating someone like Kismet or Big Lou should count for something, so I suggest we allow for some points for beating OoS players. We should also only use tournaments that we have the brackets for. In my opinion, going match by match is more accurate than looking at tournament placings. My main problem is that tournament placings can be inflated with byes and easy opponents.

It's really gotten to the point where I no longer care what system we use as long as we get one down before the update in December. If you guys are really willing to contribute I'm all for it. Alienating people just to have a "set" amount of panelist is just dumb for such an inactive smash state.

Well, I think ranking by what happens in tournaments is much more objective than a panel. Even though I don't really go to tournaments much anymore, I'd be willing to put in some time to make sure whatever system we decide on works properly.

I am not trying to replace the current system. I fully believe that a subjective system based on the educated opinions of active and knowledgeable players is the best way to have a power rankings. This is just meant to be just another interesting thing to keep track of. Only an attentive human can properly take everything into account, no mathematicsl formula is capable of that.

Theres tourney placings, bracket difficulty, money matched, oos matchups, nationals vs local tourneys, matchup knowledge, and even friendliest to some extent all matters. Only a panel of humans is able to consider all of that.

Under your system for example, geo could mm me 100 times and rack up hundreds of points just cuz he's able to beat me. That could happen in my system too. I feel like any "objective" ranking allows for misleading data like this. Or one based strictly on tourney results wouldn't take into account bracket difficulty. Things like that. I don't see s problem with the panel system. The question "who are the best players in the state" is an inherently subjective question. But I think it would be neat to see how well you do on average within the state which is why I'm starting this

Yeah, but that's easily avoidable. Maybe we just shouldn't count money matches.
