Maybe I haven't played enough fighting games, but its hard for me to get how Melee could be more balanced than just about anything...

Compare top tier to bottom, and there is such a disconnect...

I guess there is a fairly smooth transition from best to worst when taking all characters into account, but balance =/= smooth transition...

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Ironically, smash is way more balanced than most fighters that WERE designed for 1v1. In this game, Most low tiers are still usable in specific counterpicks and stages.
Wrong Wrong Wrong. They specifically designed it for several people to play at one time.
I wish I had the link to it, but just take my word for it.

Wow what could people still be talking about in this thread? Seems like just more competitive vs casual. STFU about it ffs. Play the game the way you want.

In street fighter I hear there are only 3 usable characters in tournament, Ken, Yun, Chun Li. Also at least to me the gameplay doesn't seem as deep because its slower, the same aspects apply such as mindgames and spacing, and a pro SFer would ruin me, but at the same time the game lacks double jumps up-b's evolving combos and so forth.

yah at least SSBM has all usable characters, even if some are better then others. In the marvel games, storm is sooooo broken. the problem about SSBM is the advanced techniques may create an advantage, except all characters can do it, so it evens out.

well it's better then many games that have techniques shown in only one character. Unlike some games, Nintendo at least tries to even things out in SSBM.

I was going to write "Handsockpuppet phails!", but Phail slapped me and said that it didn't want to be grouped with an ungodly thing like him...

lol yeah, there have been some idiots in this thread lately but I actually understand what handsockpuppet is saying in his posts and I don't see any statement that "fails" >.>

The failure is in the content, really. I can't figure out why anyone would say things like "Well, there's the problem that advanced techniques make some people better than others, but everyone can learn advanced techniques, so it evens out." It "evens out" a "problem" that never existed, apparently. Some people can be better by learning ATs, but other people can also be better by learning ATs? NO WAI.

I don't know about the Tier list but maybe it's because i've been using bottom tiers, Ness, Mewtwo, G&W because can't really find someone in my university that can beat me. But its all good.

I won a tournament at my University going mostly G&W.

Bottom Tier =/= losers.

But yeah if there's nobody really challenging you, try to find other local smashers...there are some extremely good people in Washington. Check out the regional boards ;)

Let's not forget Dudley and Makoto are both used fairly often in tournaments as well.

Well I was not comparing rankings, I was trying to make a comparison between characters based on their attributes and playstyles.
That means Chun Li does nothing but grab and Fsmash lols, jk jk.

Mad SF respect I just think smash is deeper and more fun.

In Smash Bros. I hear there are only 3 usable characters in tournament, Fox, Marth, Sheik. We do have power shielding though which is kind of like a parry except we can't use ours in the air :( And I guess I have to concede that the top 3 on our list is much more likely to win an entire tournament than any other characters, still though SF doesnt have platform combos, and we DO have a wall infinite or 2 haha.

Kind of inaccurate, if you're comparing what characters are similar to who (in respect to their own games) then it's wrong. But just showing the tier list side by side then sure.

Smash and 3s both have a lot of things in them, smash has more little techniques and lots of character specific techniques and whatnot.

IMO it's harder to get into and play smash at a competitive level but it's MUCH MUCH MUCH harder to actually become pro at 3s.

smash is not deeper than street fighter. all the characters on street fighter have a chance of winning. it's not like that on smash, where only a few select characters on the game have a good chance of winning. Plus every body successful at smash pretty much have similar styles of play. on street fighter you can play the same characters with oober different styles and still be successful.

You're obviously biased and have no clue what you're talking about.

Smash is without a doubt, the deepest fighting game.

That's why I can't see Brawl(which as of right now seems like its gonna completely blow chunks) taking melee's spot.

Melee will live on forever.
