"famous" and use popular characters
Ken, Isai, Mew2king, PC Chris, KoreanDJ, Captain Jack, Chillindude, etc.

"famous" and use not-so-popular characters
Azen, Chu Dat, that's about it
of course the people who are the best in the world will be famous. and obviously the people who are the best use top-tier characters and are the best because they use them.

I was trying to say that people who are good, but not great, will be a complete nobody if they pick up a "good" character. but the people who use "bad" characters will be one of the best at that character and therefore will be more respected and "famous."

The character that they use doesn't have much impact on their inherent skill. Chudat isn't famous because he uses the ICs, he's just good. Picking an unconventional character just makes him stand out.

Those who know dozens of low-tier players have good understanding of the competitive scene. Random nubs never heard of Taj, Buzz, Bum, Trevyn, etc.
Actually, the good low-tier players are often MORE idolized by random nubs. I see the posts all the time. About how "tiers are stupid and don't matter! Look at Fumi and Taj! They prove that the tier list is crap!!!!!? *insert 9 of the same smiley*"

The tier list does matter. I dont like it, but I cant deny that Fox is simply a superior character to Ness.

However, all characters have ridiculous amounts of potential.

making them stand out. that's what i meant. the skill is skill, I was just saying that they'd use top tier characters. it doesn't change their skill, but it makes them better (according to most people. I'm no tier wh0re). and to tell you the truth, people like Chu Dat are skilled, but wouldn't be nearly as famous if they went with fox or marth.

Hypothetical situations are stupid. Chu Dat is well known because he places consistently high in many major tournaments around the nation. Not because he mains Ice Climbers.

don't tell me it's only because he places high. He was one of the only good ice climber mains, and he showed the world what the ice climbers can do. if it weren't for him, there wouldn't be as many ice climbers and the ice climbers wouldn't be were they are on the tier list.

Wrong, it's because of his placings that people even look at Ice Climbers. Same thing with Bum, his DK showed what people can by placing high in tourneys using just DK.

So, if it weren't these players placing high with these characters, then people wouldn't look at them. When people see these players doing well with these characters, people begin to realize these characters have so much potential to hold their own competitively. If they didn't high but instead placed low, people wouldn't care about those characters. They would continue to think they are worthless.

I mean, look at Taj. His Mew2 is amazing, but he doesn't place nearly as high as Chu Dat.
Now, look at how many Mew2 players there are  People know Mew2 is just simply worthless. If Taj got first in MLGs, I'm sure people would reconsider.

Hell, the same can go for top tiers (Ken showing the world the potential of Marth back when he was the god of smash, or Isai and Falcon).

everyone makes my post sound different so that they can quote it. of course you have to place high. but what i was saying was you don't have to place as high. if there was someone as good as Taj playing Falco, he wouldn't be as famous. He'd still be well known, but he'd be overshadowed by M2K and other Great smashers. people look up to the best of their character. that's really what I'm trying to say.

Actually, there are many well known people who arent the best at their character, they just place high. Now, think about how many people who main low tiers u know. Probably only 1 or 2 per character. That means, u have to be one of the best players of your character to be even slightly "famous" (as in, people have heard of u). Playing a high tier and winning is a much easier way to be recognized, than playing a low tier and...well losing.

Fumi has to be the best Yoshi player ever. That guy's insane. He does get the job done. I wish there were more like him, then Yoshi wouldn't place so low on the tier list.
Fumi is indeed very good, but a bit flashy :p. Gabe and bringer are also amazing yoshi's, but the fact is, Yoshi deserves his place on the tier list, as he lacks jumping out of shield, and ahs a terrible grab, and shield grab, and no jump out of shield, and gets destroyed by shiek, etc. But he is still adorable! :lick: :yoshi: :061:

kirby is the worst player, second to bowser, imo. mewtwo should be up on kirby; compare the best mewtwo with the best kirby.... taj and someone else....

both fox and marth should be "god's" imo, since m2k marth > pc fox in evo east 07. also, their chain grabs ans edgeguard swing the tide heavily on marth's favor.

falco should be a "diety", but its weird since falco can pillar the **** out of a "god" (fox)

You haven't played anyone you try and put your input on and you honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

Well, least Yoshi is top of A tier, albeit it's the low tier... I'm gonna make videos once I get that power, and prove how good Yoshi can be, hopefully :)

Very true, but I won't boast about my skills, once I am able to make videos I'll show everyone. And possible get Yoshi into the mid-tier before SSBB is released.

The game wasn't meant for 1v1s or to be played with all of the advanced techs. That's why it seems un-even.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Ironically, smash is way more balanced than most fighters that WERE designed for 1v1. In this game, Most low tiers are still usable in specific counterpicks and stages.
