but melee is not dead. Texas is still pretty darn active in melee (even if there aren't many tx melee tournaments, we still have people that travel, and we still have top players.) I don't see why we shouldn't have a PR for melee. If its because some panelists are lazy and dont turn in their lists, then get new panelists. Texas has enough players to make a power ranking worthwhile. In fact, maybe having a PR will help the melee community in Texas.
If you want Melee Power Rankings feel free to set them up.

not to be the annoying person who always brings up melee in every brawl discussion >.>

also, (for melee OR brawl) imo splitting Texas up (by cities or north/south) seems...idk, seems like it defeats the purpose of a PR. Maybe just split them now, and have FS4 be a deciding factor??

also also, I don't think it's too early for a brawl pr. Sure its only been out a few months, but that doesn't change the fact that some players are a lot better than others and that a select few are better than the rest of the state (and can be recognized for it.) Plus power rankings are constantly evolving, so i see no harm in starting now
I agree with this whole heartedly! Also I kinda like hylian's stand point as well.

I would say he has the most knowledge of texas brawlers so far, so it would only make sense that he put a psuedo-list together to get us started.

Agreed?

I dont care if people make power rankings.

drew be realistic. people will always want them. what you should do is say they can have them after brawl has been out for a year. that way you can procrastinate, possibly put the job on someone else, and have much more and much better tourney results.

for everyone else it would mean keeping track of tourney results from now until april??? of next year.

in conclusion I could care less what the power rankings say, because I know if I practice up I should hopefully be the best in texas, if not the whole US. so watch out kiddos :p

I think I should be considered for the dallas power rankings, I mean I am Melee 1's little brother. I haven't been to very many tournaments, because of locations and stuff but I am ranked number 1 on singles and doubles on gamebattles.com. That may be just online play but I hardly ever experience lag. I play my bro all the time and I beat him most of the time, sometimes he gets me in those infinites of his. I've played Trex and I've beaten him in a tournament, and I've played Mr.3000 and the only reason he beat me was because he infinite chaingrabbed me with D3 at Pokemon Stadium and shadow moses island. I'm trying to go to more tourneys, but I don't think my name should be overlooked.

True, you shouldn't be overlooked and I'm not gonna lie...I forgot about you lol. Being #1 online is definitely a force to be reckoned with, but you have to bear in mind that tournament play in person and online play are two entirely different beasts. So it really depend on how they decide the top players in texas. They might look at tournament results alone and add points that way. In that instance, I haven't seen you at a tournament any time recently (I know you aren't able to come even though I'm sure you want to) and you might be overlooked because of that. So like I said, you definitely should be considered, but like many people have been saying with houston vs. dallas vs. austin, you can't really put a ranking on someone that's never played any of the other players in the ranking lol.

hmmmm i hadn't even thought about online play and how that would affect rankings...what if there were 2 PR lists...one for in-person tourneys and one for online tourneys?? playing online is soooo different because of lag and lack of tournament atmosphere, so I think its a good idea to keep them seperate

Good call, we do not need to mix in person PR and wifi PR. Ever.

In fact, online play shouldn't even be brought into discussion if we're going to do real life PR. I've played people online that **** me all day, but the next time i see them in person it's the opposite. I feel like we need to have a PR that isn't shifted or affected in any way by wifi rankings or matchs won or wifi tournaments.

The rankings wouldn't take online play into consideration. Sorry Jumpman but attendance in more than one event would be necessary to make this kind of list.

What's the point of online power rankings if gamebattles already has rankings in place anyways?

Also I guess I should reiterate that this topic isn't about who the top 5 in whatever city are since some Dallas people seemed to have skipped over that the first time I posted it...

From what I can tell right now not enough people care enough to do a PR at the moment and the general consensus is that this should wait til a later date.

Agree/disagree?

Also I've only seen 2 people make a legitimate case for being panelists so far (Hylian and Dr. Mario Kart).

I am definitly up for making one. I want more panelists though...

I could probably make a pretty accuarate list with just me and DMK, as we have both been to almost every Texas tournament. If no one wants to though, I don't really have a problem waiting, aside from the fact that it will be harder to make one later, rather then just making one now and keeping it updated.

I've only been to 4 or 5 Texas tournaments, but I speak with others like Hylian fairly often, I'm a member of the SBR, and I keep up with the TX tourney results. If you find others more qualified, then you won't hurt my feelings. I'm just throwing my willingness to help out there.

Sorry, but this sounding too much like a popularity contest than anything else and I'm perty sure in the future it become more like one.

Whatever, I notice I was mentioned on the first page.
Sorry, I'm not very interested in this at all after seeing first hand how the smash community treats other players (unless thats some sort of Texas thing... note I'm not apply this to all TX players).

Erm, yeah I'm good...

sorry about that, i just wanted an opinion from someone besides myself or ice.

i disagree though, i say we do it now and keep it updated like hylian says, but i don't think i would be considered for a panelist position so i doubt i could help much.

That's a much better case for you being a panelist than your "make me a panelist cause I say so" first post :)

OK so that makes 3 willing and able panelists, I'd like to get it up to 5 before putting anything together if possible.

Maybe in a month or so after all these upcoming tournaments we'll have some more people that will be able to gauge things accurately.

I recommend Sethlon as a panelist if he is up for it.

I would also reccomend Stiltzskin, as he seems to be a very fair and smart poster, but he doesn't travel outside of Houston, so that worries me.

Wobbles said he might be up for being a panelist at chili's the other night, but i'm can't speak for him at the moment. Ask him though.

Maybe. I dunno. I also ate *paper* while I was at that Chili's, so perhaps I'm not the most reliable source?

On the other hand, I convinced the waiter to get Ice's hamburger cut into little triangles, so I guess you have to make me a panelist. Or something.

With wobbles out of the picture
Dallas top 5

1.Infinity ,he averages 1st and second at pretty much every tourney.
2. Melee 1, I place pretty much get 1st and second at almost every tourney. I got 2nd at A-kon with a 128 entrants and beat out Sethalon,dr. drew, and placed higher than Dr. Mario kart, and hylain. At Game trade I also beat out Mr.3000 and T-Rex and took 1st.
3. Ice- He places from 2nd to 5th place.
4. Fogo-places from 3rd to 5th at every event.
5. D4bA- Places 4th to 7th at each tourney.

Dallas has a very strong crew and we would like to have power rankings due to the fact that Dallas will constantly keep growing and changing. Its not to early to start because theres already been like 30 tournies. We have the most smashfests and tournies like every week and we can defianetly keep up with whos doing what.

1.Infinity-Metaknight
2.Melee1-Ice Climbers/wolf
3.Ice-Snake/Lucas
4.Fogo-DDD/Game & Watch
5.D4BA-Lucario/Falco

We have a very solid crew in Dallas and many others who are climbing at each tourament.

I'd be willing to be a panelist, if whoever's compiling panelists wants me.
We really should have a tourney where all the dallas and houston people play each other though, until then we'd pretty much just be guessing.

Sorry, but this sounding too much like a popularity contest than anything else and I'm perty sure in the future it become more like one.

I really don't understand why you feel the need to bash the smash community every time you post.

Jeez thanks, Hylian. I'm blushing. Yea, I really don't have a good perception of things outside of my little town of Houston. Hopefully that changes with FS4. If most of Dallas goes as they say they are and royr, sethlon, and myself are able to make it for Houston, these tourney results should prove pretty prevalent.

Honestly, I don't understand how you're such an enjoyable guy to be around in person but you become a condescending snob on the boards.

Anyways, hope to see the 'real life' version of you at FS4.

On topic proposal: 2 people from each of the major Smash communities in Texas should be panelists. As far as I can tell that would give us 6-10 panelists depending on how you guys want to group the areas together. This state is too big to have fewer than 6 panelists, IMHO.

We should have a state ranking and then each area should have a sub-ranking of its own as well, which the 2 panelists from their respective area would be responsible for maintaining. The panelists as a group can determine the state standings.

At the moment I'd nominate Wobbles and Hylian for panelists in their respective areas. For the second panelist from Dallas I'd nominate Fogo; he's been to nearly every tournament around here and knows the talent in this area well. I haven't traveled enough around the state to cast any further nominations.

There, I was productive. Now back to my regularly scheduled trolling/lurking/instigations (i.e getting Robblewobble to eat paper).

Why doesn't anyone understand that thier WILL NOT BE SUBRANKINGS. Only ONE LIST.

As far as panelists, well traveled people are best as well as people who contribute a lot to the boards. Houston has a lot of good smashers that are hard to rank. Thats why I suggested Stiltz AND Seth. DMK and I are the two most traveled players, thats pretty obvious. The only reason I suggest Wobbles is because he has contributed a lot to the smash community and I know he has a really good understanding of skill. We don't really need reps from every place. We know the top dallas players. Can any of you tell me how Infinity would do vs Roy_R or stiltzskin? Or even Kalo? Those are the kind of panelists we need. How many of you keep track of other tournaments? That is REALLY important.

hopefully i'll be able to get a better grip on how everybody matches up by august, with tgm's big tourney happenning.

i think if we do this later on in the year, like say after g-kon, i should be considered for a panelist position.

would you agree?

It's unlikely that anyone cares enough. We already know the list would go:

Xelic
Caveman
Wobbles
SoS
Roy-R
Rayzorium
Sethlon

With slight tweaking (Jordan and Adrian can play SSB64 to determine who's better). Basically, there's no real "debate" as to who is the best player, so power rankings are basically already out there. Perhaps not officially, but there is a general consensus on who the best players are.

also also, I don't think it's too early for a brawl pr. Sure its only been out a few months, but that doesn't change the fact that some players are a lot better than others and that a select few are better than the rest of the state (and can be recognized for it.) It's just the pointlessness in the ability to say "I'm number 1!" when the game has been out for so little time. It's also difficult to find any sort of consistency. If we had started power rankings before Brawl's American release, I'd be ranked #1. >_>

I mean, power rankings are possible if enough tournaments have been run. But there needs to be enough tournaments for us to rank players based on results. Otherwise, we're just "eyeballing" it.
