Someone going to play a S-A Tier player round 1 theres NO WAY AVOIDING that. Anyways you're in F-tier but think you can do better? Then climb your way up through LOSERS. You aren't going to be the only F-tier player in losers after round 1. There are so many tournaments where I either started off in losers/played razer round 1 and still climbed my way up to top3. There's a reason why it's double elimination, abuse it and climb your way back.

Edit: OOPS i think I posted this in the wrong discussion lol.

No panel. Panels lead to bias and abuse in power. It's happened once here and happens all the time in other PRs. The ELO system is the best system we have had thus far even though it's not super mega accurate.

Zac don't let's this dumb panel stuff happen.

I like this post because I'm a fan of tough love, but my only discretion is that newer tourney goers might possibly be discouraged if their best efforts are stepped on first round. I just wish there was a way that the tops were still represented well at the top and the lower people could at least show their effort too. It's not like the lower people are bad, they just fight the tops every round. Dphat even said he remembers fighting me in every tourney I go to, and I hadn't been to one in six months prior to saturday.

Still mad love for the tops though, keeps me going that "I" can take matches/stocks off them.
Call it petty if ya'want, but thats what low tier players go nutz for.

Whatever happens we have to keep the ELO system. Even if we start having regional pannels too (which is a cool idea). The ELO system rewards effort and shows results on those whom put it forward. It's not about skill for ELO it's about determination, dedication and will to climb it. And in the end, effort(the ELO system) will make better players. A pannel should be nessessary to show those whom actually are the top skill of the state/region.

In short... The pannel will show skill while the ELO system will show effort. Both of which are essential when deciding what level of threat a player is at.

Okay, not to be biased towards a/the panel or anything, but everything you just said about ELO system is applicable towards power rankings developed through panels. The only thing that the ELO system does is take out the human input of developing PR's through the panel, and actively rank more than just the top 10 accurately(it does around top 20 then starts to get sketchy). Both will show "effort" and "skill", just on different levels.

And a panel would rank 10 or so people, maybe slightly more accurately, big maybe, but definitely much more controversially.

Generally in the days when we had a panel the top 10 werent argued on too much, it's what came after those 10 that sparked pages of debate.

That's what I mean though. Most people have the general idea of the top 10 or 15 players in the state, but past the top 5 or 6, it gets fairly muddy and people are going to get butt-hurt, no matter how it ends up. ELO has basically that same list down to 25 or so, but does it without stepping on toes, while also giving a general view on how the rest of the players in the state have been doing.

well the ELO is pretty much correct for the top 10. I think the ELO should be kept in. I just wished that there was some kind of point decay for inactivity, but determining how that would work would take a lot of time and guessing. For example, how would we accurately scale how much worse a typical player would be from not attending tournaments in x weeks? I feel if we could derive a good decay formula, our list would be even more accurate, but I don't know how to go about it.

Bwett and I thought of a way to scale places like San Antonio that have a butt load of tournaments against places like Dallas or San Angelo that don't have as many. Yay algorithms :D

I support ELO, I like how the system currently is
I also support splitting Texas 4 ways, having each region have a rank list based on ELO points
I don't think MMs/Pools/etc counting... bracket only
I don't think we need a panel, especially if we are using a point system

just my 10 rupees

Also , to those people stuck in F tier.

Xyro got himself out of F tier to where he is now, in like a few months. It is definetly possible, just stay consistent. Theres no way to make a system that accurately ranks players EXTREMELY up to date, it'll always take some time to catch up

Really, all we need to do is take the current PR and split it 4 ways and make it look pretty. And remove people who CLEARLY don't play anymore, like PX and Royr.

Wow, I totally forgot Xyro was even in F-tier not too long ago.

I agree with removing people who have no chance of ever returning to Brawl. PX will literally never play competitive Brawl again now that he's in med school.

The ELO system becomes more accurate as more data is added to the system. I have an Elo program that i along with a member of my schools video game club wrote. We use this program to rank around 40 people it is very accurate in areas where players can play one and other frequently. here is a link to the system that i use. it is well removed from this TX system but its the same concept.
