Well, dtilt's good, but I believe it's slower both in startup and in cooldown, kinda like using dtilt instead of jab with ROB (this analogy is probably a lot more similar than you think). For one, you can't CC dtilt. CC is a large part of why jab pressure is a big deal in Smash. How do you get "screwed out of your opponent's reset"?

There's a lot of techniques I didn't get to demonstrate in these videos, some won't be in 2.6

Match 1 has a lot of attempted shield pressure cross-ups
The rest are your average matches

I wish I got video for the tournaments/events I've attended (I always get free days to come when recorders Kirk and Metroid don't)

http://smashboards.com/threads/exp-gaming-wavedash-wednesday-3-27-13.335279/ Won when they had slightly laggy HDTVs, Wifi skills too good

Then there's the now dead (no one goes on anymore) Wifi ladder: http://allisbrawl.com/ladder/player.aspx?id=85683
I'm 26th and Disqo is 18th

That's pretty much it for everything 2.5 Diddy. also here's a banana thing http://youtu.be/CrNDUt8jEGg

First time posting here (picked up Diddy during the great DDoS so yea)

Got a few matches from my stream, these are friendlies, as Iv never used Diddy in tourny (tho I plan to). Any an all critique is welcome. Iv never watched others play Diddy on YT (only on streams when they appear lol), never read this part of the forum before, and never played Brawl Diddy so everything will help.
http://www.twitch.tv/gmaster171/b/461541438

0:01:00
0:08:07

use the barrels to get back from the ledge like 90% of the time. It's an OP option that gets you to center stage for free most of the time.

My latest match, I have a lot on VGBootcamp that you can see.

First thing, STOP USING SIDE-B AS AN APPROACH. It's best used when you bait options that require commitment (sheild, laggy attack etc) It should not be used in the neutral game so liberally. Also, when you're in the neutral game try not to throw out as many yolo fairs because that's what was getting you punished the most. Diddy seems to be a character that benefits from limiting options and capitalizing on mistakes.

I liked your general strings and item/popgun game however, but if you focus more on your neutral game and spacing your aerials, you will see results sooner rather than later.

Okay I'd like to start off saying welcome to the monkey! More are always welcome (especially since everyone seems to give up on this guy...) As a brawl Diddy main I will say that in both games he is a very technical character that requires lots of quick thinking and quick punishes. The better you can piss your opponent off or get in their head the better. That being said, Diddy has lots of potential and is proving to be very versatile in all of the matchups he can deal with.

To start off, you need to work more on item control and general character control. Those YOLOSWAG SDs will stop happening when you get that down. Second, work on your item control. bananas are a neat item because they can be used passively (layed on the ground as stage control) or actively (a projectile) learn to always have at least one out when you're in the neutral. You want to be at a point to where even if your opponent grabs a banana, you can convert what they do into your favor. Try not to always be so aggressive unless you know you can get away with it. know when to bait things out and when to punish.

Overall though, I like your style and your Dair usage and hope you find him to be enjoyable!

Bladewise plays Peach AND Diddy, and his kong can be really fun to watch because bladewise normally plays such a drastically different character!

Hey guys. My friend, who is in the process of getting a new name, would like me to post his Diddy here. This was at the most recent Xanadu, and he really wants to get as much feedback as possible.

Here's the video:
Guy, I know you're here. What did you notice about Ice's Diddy? I know you played a lot of games with him, so what did he do well? What did he do poorly?

I actually watched this set a few days ago while I was in the lab looking through other diddy players and how they handle certain situations. at work now, I'll edit this to say what I enjoyed about his play later

My bad on how late I am on this. Ice really didn't do that much wrong, I could tell he's got experience but not a ton of polish (I sure as hell don't for what level of play I could be at).

I believe he just needs to move a bit faster and improve on his tech skill to begin with. It's not a big deal when you're learning your character and how matchups work, but it's also not good to move too slow in a game like this. Fastfall your stuff whenever you can if it isn't going to be unsafe and make sure you hit those L cancels. That's what's gonna speed you up and have your opponent going crazy over how fast your Diddy is.

His nanergame could use some help a bit, AGTing and AGT rethrow isn't truly important to anyone but say TL and Link, but it's definitely something that you want to learn to do. Wavedash your bananas, never pick them up plainly with A (I would suggest against this if you don't have WDing down consistently yet though). That's just a few things. Abuse his dash attack offstage as a gimp option and onstage mixup. Mix all that together over time and you'll be great.

You can't play Diddy in this game without bananas though (lolsheik), and in my mind you never really could. He's gotta work on his naner game. I think that's the only thing I have over everyone else that I know who plays Diddy. Bladewise's tech skill is above everyone's that I know of though, including Junebug and Royal as far as I can tell. There's no doubt about that for me.

Double post but whatever

Finally got at least one set recorded.

Preface to this vid: I don't think this is the greatest representation of my play... game 1 was fine (did some noob things like cringe worthy side-b whiff to reflex rolls) but I just sorta fell apart after an SD and games 2 and 3 were crap. I'm normally incredibly consistent so I'm not really happy with this set. I started auto piloting and got punished for not shortening side-bs a lot. Gem adapted well and started WDing out of shield and just grabbing me, great adaptation by him. While I had decent recovery mix-ups (Was focusing on them all day in friendlies) I almost always did either ledge hop fair or side-b to get off the stage.

I know the marth matchup slightly, Not used to his combo weight as Diddy so I dropped a few easy confirms. I felt I was getting out played when I got too aggressive and I was winning when I just slowed it down, grabbed my nuts (and bananas) and just walled him out with the popgun, AGTing to punish him when he tried anything but short hoping over them. I like that strategy more tbh, I just tunnel visioned on trying to end stocks and just took too much punishments.

I also think I went for dash attacks way too much when It wasn't safe. 2nd game I tried out Spidermad"s cheesy da off platform immediately thing but missed the confirmation, I should have just up-smashed but went for a pivot grab.

I question my counterpicking as well, I should have just gone for PS2 or FD. GHZ hurt me more than it helped imo, I think I wanted the wall without going to yoshi's or WW.

Please berate me and such, I'd rather have things pointed out that looked bad and don't work than compliments :p Although pointing out specific things that you liked would be nice.

I Just downloaded X-split because my pinnical program crapped out on me, I'm bringing my dazzle to our weekly and getting sets (possibly money matches) recorded. Most of the matches will probably be against spacies and marth, Maybe I can get one with K9's MK because he always wants to MM me anyway.

Okay several things. First of all I will begin with saying I think Diddy Marth is pretty much in Diddy's Favor. Marth has some good punishes and edgeguards, but Diddy's job is to overwhelm Marth with pressure or to zone him out and bait. Seeing as this is P:M I really feel that the pressure based approach will get more mileage as the meta develops but that's me. I did notice you lose some confidence after game two which is normal but remember that if you can't keep it together, nobody else will for you so try and work on that man :)

I saw you almost constantly going for D-Throw > Fairs even at low percent. This followup actually will not work with the correct DI so make sure to either notice the DI up front or have something else planned. At low percentage you want to establish a ground game against marth and use the down throws more as a tech chase than a combo tool. Marth is fast too, but you also have bananas on your side which leads to my next point. Unless you are completely feeling yourself, ALWAYS keep a nanner in hand in this matchup. Nanners OoS is honestly one of the best punishes in the game. It flips momentum, it's crazy fast, and it can completely turn into a kill setup if your opponent slips up on the tech (terrible pun). I'd like to see more dash dancing with a banana (this helps so much against characters with amazing neutral games) instead of immediately opting for that glide toss. I saw way too many telegraphed fairs in this set that I'm sure were more of the autopilot, but definitely use more side-B as a sort of tomahawk when people shield. Speaking of shielding I would try to shield the LEAST amount possible on this matchup. I know Marth can be scary and fast on the ground but you have to stay mobile even if it means buffering rolls instead of a shield. A Diddy in shield (especially without a banana) is not something Marth fears nor should respect. Overall though, I liked your followup game and see some potential in your Kong so keep up the studying!

If you have any questions about specific things about marth or any matchups in general man feel free to PM me or Skype me. That's one of the reasons I wanted to get in contact with you guys was for this very reason.

If these help you at all, that would be more than worth it for me but here are some recorded sets I have against Marths in tourney since 3.0 came out. I would recommend the 2nd video because it's a bit more current even though I feel like I've gotten way better since even then.

VS Nike
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnbNQvGasGM
This one was very very tough considering this was the guy to send me in losers at this same event. He 2-0'd me and so I had to do some major adapting by the time we played. There was definitely some cheese in my favor, but this guy is a super smart player and it really tested my matchup knowledge.

P.S. You may notice me doing lots of things I advised against with you and this was exactly why.

VS SOS
http://youtu.be/VBlsha-6cYU?t=4m11s
This guy was much more aggro and in my face which also gave me a challenge but I think after this It made me much more confident against Marth (and Fox even though I got bopped lol)

Here are some tournament sets that were recorded at my local last night. I got either 5th or 7th, I don't remember. If you only watch one set I would recommend the one with Oro, it was a fantastic close set. I believe he went on to win the tournament.

DLA vs Oro?! (ZSS)

DLA vs Argo$Sax (ZSS/Puff)

DLA vs Trip (Olimar/Diddy)

DLA vs Shion (Mario)

DLA vs Rat (Wolf)

Trip vs Dizzy (Wolf/CF)

Trip--if you want any more matches uploaded let me know, I wasn't sure what was tournament and what was friendlies.

Marth's feet definitely touched the ground before your uair connected. He could have shielded the uair after the bair.
Yeah, I think sometimes people don't expect the 2nd aerial though. They might know they landed and go for a grab thinking I'm like one of you tyros who just Bairs not early enough and has to AC it, but get the 2nd aerial hit'em: which is what I think happened here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7a1U1UfrNw#t=219

Hey all! New to the forums, but I sometimes lurk. I picked this lil' Diddy guy up about a month and a half ago, so I'm still working on him, but I love him so far! Here are a few games recorded of my Diddy from a tournament this weekend.

The first set has probably the best play on my part, but there are some things in all of 'em. The third video is against a guy who was doing rather swell at shutting down my banana game, which was interesting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEpvQNNV-Ec

I've watched very few other Diddy players for influence (I've seen Boss play, but that's about it), so you can watch me jank it up here with my own strats. These matches are some that I won, though there are several other videos there as well. Will probably post more as I get better!
