SEGA Mii Costume: Opa-Opa (Fantasy Zone - Hat)

Opa-Opa is the main protagonist of the "cute 'em up" series called Fantasy Zone which debuted in 1986. He is a sentient spaceship who oftentimes finds himself going on wacky and surprisingly traumatic intergalactic adventures to save the day. The original game was a classic hit in the arcades, having gotten all kinds of multiple re-releases and sequels.

Opa-Opa himself was SEGA's first official mascot, and had cameos in multiple games they created. The franchise's theme song, "Opa-Opa!", is up there in terms of classic SEGA tracks that often appear in other games and music albums, and he's generally still frequently used as a sort of "ambassador" for retro SEGA in general SEGA media. He's probably the closest thing SEGA have to a non-Sonic mascot.

When weared as a hat by Mii Fighter, Opa-Opa will just stand on their head while they're fighting. Don't question how he holds on, just roll with it.

It's a genius idea, man.
If it wins, that would be cool.

I'll present you with THE most obscure SEGA character no one has ever heard of

SEGA Mii Costume: Professor Asobin (Mii Brawler)

This gentleman looking like straight out of Alice in Wonderland was the unofficial SEGA mascot by many, and for one reason. He appared in almost all of the Japanese manuals in early games for the SG-1000, SEGA's first console that was only released in Japan, though he never appeared in the games himself nor having his own one either. He dissapeared after the 80's and was replaced by Dr. Games, then Opa-Opa, but that doesn't mean he is gone from the public eye. You might have seen this guy in SeHa Girls anime as the avatar for Center.

He will be a full costume for the Mii Brawler, much like King K. Rool, with his top hat and head as a headgear, and his outfift for the rest.

Robo and Mobo Bonanza (Gunners)
Series: Bonanza Bros/Puzzle & Action

The Bonanza Bros. are two bumbling burglars (or defficiant detectives depending on your home country and time period) who rob a bank, pyramid, casino, and other such places. They are armed with tranquiliser guns and have a famous snort of "nyeh heh heh!"

Similar to the Off the Hook outfits that were previously submitted, I am submitting the Bros. as two seperate costumes that are borderline identical. They come with full masks like Sans/Cuphead/Vault Boy/Pig before them. They do not have visible legs. Mobo (blue, tan) is made taller to fit Gunner's proportions, but still has a wider head and body. Both brothers will use their stun guns as their Mii guns.

Bonanza Bros. is a classic Sega game and one of the most beloved pre-Sonic Sega offerings. It was one of the earliest true stealth games and is a frequent staple of Sega's retro compilations.
These costumes would be released as a bundle, which I think is still justifiable as they are borderline identical. If that isn't OK, just use Robo (red, fair-skinned, and tall)

If they're basically the same why not just have them just be one costume you can change the colors for, like Bomberman, no need to take up two spots

I really wanted to submit Amigo but, we already Amingo in the game from MvC so I feel, along with the name and appearance, it wouldn't go over well. I just want to get this gem in the game...

This game is actually use in public places and television in Japan to the extent people know what the song is but not sure of the source.

Now, I am fully prepared to submit an alternate character from the series but I want to submit something that is waaaay out there. I don't do these often but I couldn't help myself....

Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi series

"HEY, HEY, HEY!! Ready to have some fun? I got some kicking music, and I'm ready to see you smash! Get those costumes out of the eshop, throw 'em on the fighter, and let's get started! CRAZY TAXI!"

This Mii Costume will fully transform into a slightly unorthodox, warp, chibbified version of the main Crazy Taxi taxi! The wheels will go over the arms and legs but function the same for this Mii Brawler costume. This would be similar to a Deluxe Mii Costume in the sense it transforms the character into a taxi; albeit weirdly shaped.

Now, if people feel this isn't appropriate or feels that even this type of Mii Costume is waaaaay to out there, please let me know. I am fully prepared to submit B.D. Joe as an alternate.

This gives the Mii Brawler his hat, sunglasses, beard, white shirt and blue t-shirt, red shorts, and red shoes. While not pictured, he also has his necklace and pierced earrings.

I have been waiting for this moment. SEGA have an absolutely nuts wealth of Mii Costume potential that I really think Smash oughta delve into, and after looking over some candidates, I ultimately landed upon this character, because I feel they strike a good balance between being a noteworthy and deserving SEGA character and also someone I don't see anyone else submitting. So here they are:

SEGA Mii Costume: Temjin from Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON :ultswordfighter::ultgunner:
VOOT_Temjin_large.jpg

Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON is a series of 3D fighter/shooter hybrid arcade games developed by the AM3 team at SEGA, who are most famous for also having been behind Crazy Taxi. Virtual-ON revolves around Virtuaroids (VRs for short), who are basically big ****ing robots who are decked out with weaponry and are fighting each other for the fate of the world. These battles are made possible thanks to one of this series' most distinctive and defining quirks: the use of a twin-stick controller to control the VRs, in which you have two arcade sticks complemented by a variety of other controls. This made for a rather unique control scheme in which the VRs are actually controlled like industrial machinery, which was a big factor in the series' popularity and is sometimes considered to have revolutionized the use of twin sticks in gaming. The mechs in this series are also notable for having been designed by Hajime Katoki, a character designer who has worked on Gundam.

The series has 4 main games that were released between 1996 and 2003. In more recent years, there has also been a crossover game with the light novel series A Certain Magical Index and a collection of the first three games on the PS4. This is actually a very notable series for SEGA - the original games were big hits on arcades, the series has quite the cult following, and SEGA reference it, like, all the time. I think the two most shining examples of the series getting referenced are the original game being playable in Yakuza Kiwami 2 and some of the more recognizable mechs from the series showing up in Super Robot Wars (fun fact: an unspecified Virtual-ON character was in the cards for Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - apparently even having had a model made of them - but was unfortunately scrapped. this is so sad alexa pls play in the blue sky). But it also just keeps popping up in all sorts of smaller ways. The old SEGA 60th anniversary pfp thing they did had like a bajillion Virtual-ON icons. If you listen to any of these big SEGA music albums, there's a pretty high likelihood that there will be some Virtual-ON representation. It's just a series that SEGA clearly have a lot of reverence for (it's also gotten stuff like figurines, light novels, and drama CDs). Also it's a series about cool robots fighting like cmon we gotta get it in

Temjin is more or less the face of Virtual-ON. It's the mascot. The poster bot, if you will. Temjin is an all-around fighter, whose main weapon is a laser blade that can also be transformed into an energy rifle. This is why I suggest that the Temjin costume be available for both Gunners and Swordfighters: the former gets the rifle, and the latter gets the blade. Design-wise, Temjin's costume is one that covers your head entirely, in a similar fashion to the Sans or Bomberman costumes for example. As you can see, Temjin's design is pretty complex, so it'd have to be somewhat simplified/chibified for the costume. But regardless I think Temjin would be a sick ****ing Mii costume and I do believe Virtual-ON is a series of high enough caliber within SEGA's library to get a Mii costume with Sakura. They're both also kinda from the Saturn era, so there's an additional connection!

TL;DR: cool robot

Sega Mii Costume: Billy Hatcher
ASR_Billy.png

Billy Hatcher is the main protagonist of the Gamecube classic Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Despite only having one game to his name, he became something of an unofficial mascot for Sega, appearing in constant crossover with both Sonic and other Sega franchises. The costume will be available for all classes (with the Gunner variant having an egg-themed gun), and will be based on Billy's iconic Legendary Chicken Suit.

Or, if you prefer a "sadder-sounding" version at this moment.

(man, I wish we had a deluxe music track as the option in this job)

Submitting Phantom R from Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure as a Mii Brawler costume consisting of the Phantom R Hat and the Phantom R Suit. I mostly just want its soundtrack in the game. If this is too similar to a regular suit-and-tie get-up then consider Ulala from Space Channel 5 as a Mii Gunner costume that uses her micro-phone as a cannon my back-up submission. Cheers!

I fell this wouldn’t sell costumes though. While I did say a history on Sega properties, this history should be recognizable. It’s debatable that this costume would be enough to sell costumes. Plus, we also have a rabbit costume in the forum of Arcade Bunny.

The goal is to not find the most obscure Sega reference to fit in a wave that celebrates that characters contributions to gaming but also to sell costumes.

I'd buy the crap out of a Professor Asobin costume - anyway, if Asobin is treated in a vacuum as just "dapper rabbit", there'd surely still be a market there, right? I bought a lot of Mii Costumes just because they looked like another character I wanted to make or simply looked cool in general, I'm sure a lot of people would just want a Mii of a top-hatted bunny even if they have no clue who it is. Any character can be marketable with this context and price tag, regardless of actual popularity or recongisability.

If it makes you feel better, Samba de Janeiro isn't from Samba de Amigo; it's actually by a German pop group (Bellini) who own it; SEGA just pays licensing fees when they want to use it; unlike "Mexican Flyer" from Space Channel 5 which SEGA actually purchased from it's copyright owners; Nintendo likely wouldn't be willing to play ball with Bellini over the rights to include it.

1. they wouldn't take up slots, they'd be two costumes bundled as one

2. the skin and proportions would be different. If you can change the colours like Bomberman it'd be hard to decide which colours should be Mobo and which should be Robo.

Exactly, you see, there are submissions that are really worthy like Alis, Temjin and Opa-Opa.

I considered submitting Vyse, but as lovely as it'd be for him to get a Mii Costume in Smash, I felt Virtual-ON was probably the higher-priority franchise of the two big ones I was considering.

That said it'd be epic someone please submit him

Give it just two color variants, red and blue. Easy.
But 1. Mobo and Robo have different skin colours and proportions, doing that would just give a "blue-shirt fat orange Robo" or "red-shirt skinny yellow Mobo" rather than both of the actual Bonanza Bros., and 2. there are more colour options for Miis than just red and blue - what happens if someone sets a composited Bonanza Bros. costume to orange?

Sorry bro, but I can't because I've already submitted Space Harrier as Mii Gunner Costume.

Aosbin should be allowed imo. I think the difference between Asobin and something like bad box art Strider (no offence) is that one is an actual character with ties to Sega history and the other is a wacky pick for the sake of being wacky. I understand the worry about it selling but I think it's a distinive enough character that it might grab people.
Stark disagreement. DLC costumes should be designed to sell. Note that all 3rd Party DLC costumes in the actual games come from notable games. No one gives a damn about a random doodle who shows up in instruction manuals and thus, might I add, doesn't even come from a game.

Skin colors and proportions don't matter, it has to be matched to the Miis. Did you forget about that part?

Simple, it acts like what happens when you set any color to a Mii costume - it does nothing. Go into Ultimate and try to set Doom Slayer or whatever with a pink outfit. It doesn't do anything. There you go. Code in red to do one thing, blue to another, everything else to do nothing. Problem solved.

I care about Asobin tho. He was part of SEGA's history like Sakura.
(Don't judge my opinion)

Mobo would have a shorter head and thicker arms, vice versa for Robo - compare the Sans costume to the Vault Boy costume and you'll see that Mii Costumes do have distinct proportions. Additionally, what happens if the Bonanza Bros. mask is put on a Mii with a skin tone that isn't tanned? There are no light-skinned or black Bonanza Bros, and it'd be extremely hard to communicate that your base Mii has to be a specific tan to make Mobo instead of Robo.

That is a good point, but again, you wouldn't be able to have the model proportion modifications if Mobo were just a recolour of Robo or vice versa.

I mean I feel like that's a sacrifice you gotta make; my point here is that I think Venus would rule that as taking two costumes instead of one the way you have it written; and I mean it's not like Smash hasn't taken creative liberties before. It's Bonanza Bros, that's like having Mario without Luigi.

As for the skin tone, I don't see how that's relevant? If we have a mask than it covers it regardless, just have the colors codes as "Red gives you the Robo colored outfit and mask" and "blue gives you the Mobo colors for the cosmetic"

The idea I had was that seperate Bonanza Bros. costumes would be identical enough - both from a development and consumer standpoint - to justify selling them as a bundle. A comparison I could give is the male and female versions of the animal costumes in 3DS/Wii U, which were basically different costumes but sold as a single package - the Bonanza Bros would be that, but not split by gender and instead split by selection.

I mean that's not the worst thing though I do wonder, how would SEGA treat that? Wouldn't they want further licensing fees for both characters? You could reasonably work around that just by calling the costume "Bonanza Bro" and having two options, but if we're going to go the full mile and do both, I feel like as a business they'd probably be more shrewd on that licensing since at that point it's not an alternate color anymore, it's the full mile. Ultimately it's up to Venus, but I'll say I couldn't justify voting for it if the call is that they'd be seperate and take up two slots.

I see nothing wrong with giving Bonanza Bros a “gender swap” feature in that it changes between the two. We have a precedent and can also set a precedent by technically swapping the gender without technically swapping it with special treatment aimed at the fact it’s third party.

as for the dapper bunny, I have yet to decide on this. Still weighing our options.

I'm not really asking for the Bros. to be seperated by gender option, but rather be purchased and treated as one costume officially, but have seperate selection on the list - though I guess I would be fine with Robo as the "male" option and Mobo as the "female", even if it'd be a little cryptic.

I feel this is the best option we have. Technically, we would have to give both a Mii costume slot.

Alternatively though, I’m not sure if it’s possible to give the mii either one costume and then be able to switch it on the player select screen. That’s never happened before and I’m not sure if Bonanza Bros are … worthy of this recognition lol.

Honestly considering swapping Alis out for Vyse or maybe someone from The House of the Dead instead... if I did, would someone else submit Alis? She really deserves a shot at it
.....Ah, **** it. I'll change my submission.

Instead of Temjin, I'd like to nominate Alis Landale in Gryff's place. She'd still be a Mii Swordfighter costume.

now if anyone else wants to submit Temjin

He's deconfirmed for base game anyway, so I'm okay with submitting hee ho man
Jack Frost would be a brawler. The headgear is a Jack Frost helmet/head, and the bottom would be fromJack Frost's collar to his shoes.

Vyse (Skies of Arcadia)

1644971001643.png

While not as successful as Sakura Wars, SEGA also produced another RPG featuring a steampunk aesthetic, though this one took place high in the air, and dealt with pirates; Vyse is the protagonist of Skies of Arcadia, which despite appearing on the failing Dreamcast, SEGA saw as holding enough potential to stay in the market and was ported over to the Gamecube around the same time as the Sonic Adventure titles. It saw moderate success and like Tales of Symphonia, became known as a cult classic RPG. Vyse is a Mii swordfighter costume, and like Lloyd yet again wields two swords (cutlasses specifically) - though he'll only use one of them as a costume.

Not really related, but Vyse was included in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and rumors state Sakura was also planned to be included, but was cut due to her vehicle having similarities to Vyse's, though this is unconfirmed.

Vyse would fit well paired with the Sakura Wars bundle, due to both series being steampunk RPG series from SEGA from a similar era.

Gilius Thunderhead (Golden Axe)
This is a Mii Costume for the Mii Swordfighter, based on the cover character of the Golden Axe series by Sega. In Smash, the costume would be divided into two parts:
  • Gilius's Beard: A large puffy beard and the horned helmet that Gilius wears.
  • Gilius Outfit: The outfit, bracers and boots of Gilius that has been attributed to the character since his debut. The sword here is replaced with Gilius's axe.

Gallian Militia Uniform (Valkyria Chronicles)
For the Mii Gunner. Valkyria Chronicles is a series of Tactical RPGs with a unique combat system. There is one piece to this set:
  1. Gallian Militia Uniform (for the body)
    1. Gives you the uniform and a gun. The uniform can be altered based on the gender that the Mii is assigned. If male, it will take on the uniform that Welkin wears (right) and if female, it will have one similar to Alicia (left).
Kiryu Kazuma

This would be a mii costume for all 3 classes and it consists of the body and hair

Brawler has just his fists

Gunner has a pistol

Swordfighter has an iron pipe

Axel Stone (Streets of Rage) - Brawler
Gives the Mii his hair and outfit.
I know you guys this would my bias mii idea, but hear me out:
Space Harrier (Space Harrier) - Gunner
View attachment 345196
Space Harrier is main protagonist of self-titled 1985 Rail Shooter game developed by SEGA and released on arcades. He is a blonde dude, who flies through planets and shoots at the Aliens, Dragons and Robots, who are roaming those trippy planets.
Fun Fact if you didn't knew: Did you know that Space Harrier and Fantasy Zone share the same universe?

Space Harrier would be Mii Gunner costume and it consists of:
Headgear - His Blonde hair along with sunglasses.
Outfit - His costume with red suit and blue pants along with black boots. The cannon is replaced with his cannon from the game.

View attachment 345224

View attachment 345237
Billy Hatcher is the main protagonist of the Gamecube classic Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Despite only having one game to his name, he became something of an unofficial mascot for Sega, appearing in constant crossover with both Sonic and other Sega franchises. The costume will be available for all classes (with the Gunner variant having an egg-themed gun), and will be based on Billy's iconic Legendary Chicken Suit.

Cheers!
